This has NOTHING to do with car warranties and EVERYTHING to do with them finding LIVE phone numbers they can sell overseas to other scammers.  I'm SO annoyed by this.

If they really wanted to know about my car's warranties and they were legitimate, they would have known what kind of car I had - like I asked.  All I did was press #1 and they asked for my car's make and model.  I said, well you tell me... you called me and was abruptly hung-up upon.

If they are not hunting for LIVE numbers, then they are hunting for information about CARS that they can sell.

Either way, they are mining for information and I'm annoyed as all get out.  I have all of our phone numbers on the Do Not Call list and this is a cell phone!

Jerks!

yep, same happened to me just now, except I hit 1 just to see what the deal was.  When they asked for the year and make and I told them 1987 Toyota, they hung up on me.  How rude! ;-)  Not that I would have fallen for it, just funny.

I just received a call from this number and they told me my warranty was expired on my GM vehicle. They said press 1 for a representative so I did, thinking that I might be able to talk to someone about removing my number or at the least vent some frustration. Right away they ask for the make and model for my GM vehicle or part (didn't quite catch that part). They hung up as soon as I didn't start my sentence with a letter or number! I drive an 82 Chevy Sport Van so they must have got my number from either Big O or Advanced Auto Parts, since those are the only companies that have my number associated with my van. Of coarse there is a chance that the GM thing is nothing but a coincidence, but who knows. If anyone knows what company this is for or how to talk to somebody I would love it if you could share it with me. My e-mail is michael81149@gmail.com, please don't spam me ;)

it is a scam if you type the number into Google, you can file a report to with the government at www.ftc.gov they are apparently after your money and will use the gemic that your car warranty has expired. They are from London, do not pick up or believe them.

I got a call from this number a few minutes ago. I did not answer because it was a long number and it had a plus sign in the front of it(+442074842277). I was sitting at the computer and decided to do a number lookup and got all these complaints on the same number. It also listed a UK number code.

I just received a call from this number on my cell phone. I never answer numbers I don't know (that is why they make voicemail) so I didn't answer this call.  No message was left.  Thanks to everyone before me who did answer and who identified this as a scam call.

Called my cell phone and when I called back and challenged them, they hung up.  I am on the "Do Not Call" List and I went to the FTC web site and filed a complaint.  You have to include the phone number - 442-074-842277

Recieved the same call, here's some info I found:
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/307/ripoff0307487.htm

The same exact scenario happened to me except I really thought it was a legitimate company so was on the phone with the company for about 30 minutes. When I was contacted I was advised that my warranty had already expired and we discussed the warranty they offered (pricing, financing, etc).

The recording when I first received the call (from +442074842277 according to my caller id) stated that they were calling as a courtesy since they had sent me numerous notices via mail but i had not responded and they were basically giving me one last chance to enroll in this warranty before my case was closed (this is also what the man I spoke with said).

After reviewing the terms I asked how long I had to decide and they advised me that I had to purchase the warranty tonight and that they offered no interest financing.

I let the man know that I needed to speak to my husband about the terms and if I could call him back. He stated that he did not have a direct number but gave me customer service number and advised to leave a message. The customer service number that was given to me is 888-998-9893. I also asked for the name of the company since it was never mentioned in the recording or when the live operator answered the phone - he stated that the company name is TransAmerica Warranty and that the insurance company for the warranty is Warranty America. He agreed to call me back in 20 minutes.

In those 20 minutes I went to my car to grab my current warranty information and found out that my warranty had NOT expired and it is actually good til Dec 2009. At this point, I decided to google the companies and found the website for Warranty America and on the main page there is a NOTICE posted --- see www.warrantyamerica.net/notice ... this notice basically states that if you are contacted by someone selling warranty from them it is not legitimate. Please read! If it had not been for this notice I would have fallen victim to this scam!

When the representative called me back I said 'I have reviewed my records and shows that my warranty has not expired, I have over a year left on it' ... he tried to state that my mileage had expired but advised him that my mileage was still below the max per my warranty. At this point, he stated that his computer showed different information.

Further researching TransAmerica I came across this site and found the report filed which described exactly what I had experienced.

Thank you!

I emailed Warranty America to confirm that the sales call was a scam but in the meantime I plan to tell everyone I can about this!

I consider myself a pretty intelligent and cautious person but I was ready to pay the down payment! Very scary!

It's a telemarketing scam, offering car warranties. You get a recording telling you lies, then telling you to press 1 to talk to an agent, or press 2 to disconnect. I always answer and act interested. I try to get them to mail me something or give me a website to go to for more info. They hang up on you quickly if you try to get them to identify themselves. Give them a fake name and your real address if you can. Sooner or later they'll leave a trail leading back to themselves...
