First off, I am happy to have found this site/forum!  I received a call from this number a couple of days ago and thought that 450 is an unrecognized area code, and that something about the call was off.  I decided to google the area code, and this page was right there.  I have started a new business, and have not done very much along the line of advertising as of yet.  I also have not listed my cell phone number in many directories as of yet, but the caller knew my business by name, and proceeded to try and sell me advertising space on phonebook covers, as I have read in comments made above to be consistent.  I have a sales person visiting me tomorrow on this matter, so I think I will have a little fun with it.  I may even present him with this webpage, and ask him to explain some of these comments to me.  I am also going to contact other business' which have advertised in free online directories, and see if they've received a similar call.  I know one thing for sure, I am not going to invest my money into they're seemingly crooked advertising scheme, and I will also try to alert others on this matter. Power to the people! DON'T GET SCAMMED!

You are not alone.

If you do a search, you will find many others have had the same.

This following is mine;

They called my number numerous times, never leaving a message.

When I returned the call, the "operator" told me that she was answering phones for many companies. After asking her what companies, she said, "maybe it's from the company that sells flat screen TV's", I told her thanks but no thanks, and hung up.

A few days later, I received yet another call from the same number, so I answered.
The guy on the other end told me that he was calling from *Boston Pizza" on St. Laurent Blvd. in Ottawa (which made me question the validity of the call), then he said, "Oh, you must be confused by the 450 exchange, it's actually a central number we have for our advertising". I asked a few questions as he tried to pitch me his sales BS, telling me that he had been given my business card by a colleague, so I asked him what was on the back of my card (my card has info on what I do on the back), he then said that he couldn't find it, and I said, "funny, you had it a second ago to get my umber to call me". He continued to skirt the questions and pitch his wares. I asked more questions, he said it was to put my business on their advertising TV's throughout the restaurant, which made me ask who he was again. He then tried to tell me that he was in charge of all the Boston Pizza advertising in Quebec & Ontario, but working for Boston Pizza (which made me question why he would call me). When I asked to meet with him, he told me that he was very busy with the installation of the TVs, and that I would have to call his office. In the end, I told him that I wasn't interested, and hung up.

It smelled fishy, so I researched the number online, and it came up as "Impression Rinka", out of Longueil Quebec.

I called the number, listened to the recorded message, and chose an option. There was only one company, not numerous as the "operator" had explained. There was no "0" selection, and no way to get a manager, just a few names and departments, so I chose the "customer service" one.
I got a message saying that "Kate" was busy, and that I should remain on hold. After a brief stint on hold, the phone was answered by a lady, who gave her name as "Marie Anne", or "Anne Marie (I can't remember which). I then asked what the company did, she refused to answer, and asked why I wanted to know. I told her that I had received numerous calls from this number, and wanted to know why, as no one had left any messages. After a number of questions from both of us, and her determination not to tell me what they did, I said "good day" and hung up.

Later on, I called back @ the "central office" number of "Rinka" @ (450) 442-1141, and when the same "operator" answered, I asked to speak with the manager, this time, she did not ask "which company" manager I wanted to speak with, but told me that the manager didn't speak english. I then asked her in French, she then told me that he wasn't there. She asked me what the call was about, I told her that it wasn't her business, that I wanted to speak to the manager, and she said, "what do you mean it's not my business?", I told her that since she was only the "operator" for multiple businesses, that the reason for my call did not concern her, she then got quite rude in tone and continued to ask what it was about (at this point I actually thought she was going to hang up, but she continued asking), I persisted in demanding to speak with the manager or with whomever was in charge of the office at that time, and, after a lengthy pause and time on hold, she put the call to a woman claiming to be the advertising manager.

Knowing that this was going nowhere, I asked this lady to put me through to the "installation manager", and she transferred me to a man.
I asked this "manager" if he had a crew installing some TVs at the Boston Pizza location in Ottawa (that I mentioned earlier), he said no, so I proceeded to tell him about the call I had. he then said yes, we have some TVs there, but no crew or sales people (because I asked that question too). He ten told me that I must have been mistaken or confused about the call. I told him everything, he continued to deny that anyone from his company would call me from there -even though the number came from his office.

We ended up having a rather heated conversation, trying to tell me (in english that perhaps we weren't understanding each other due to language barrier, and told me I should call back when someone english could speak to me. So, once again, I switched to French. He stuttered and stammered a bit, now realizing that he was stuck, then tried to tell me again how I was "confused".
Finally, after much arguing and discussion (which I know was BS) I told him that I would be calling the RCMP fraud department about his company and their scam.

He lost his s***, started yelling at me on the phone, telling me that I was a trouble maker, and that he ran a proper business, and continued to tell me that there was, in fact, TVs installed at the Boston Pizza location. I said that's fine, perhaps there are, but that I figured his business was a scam, so he continued to yell and call me names (how professional is that?!).

Every person I dealt with was rude from the get go.
Everything we discussed was highly questionable.
The discussions were heated, and ill thought out on their part, they back-pedaled and paused quite often, I'm quite certain to think of what lies to give me next.
The whole thing smelled worse that Cornwall in the summertime.

This is DEFINITELY NOT a company that you would want to deal with, no matter what there story is.

Do not deal with these people if you value your money.

I have since reported then to the RCMP 7 the Better Business Bureau, but as yet have not heard back from either...

Thanks for the previous posts. They keep calling my business lines but wont leave a message. My secretary asked them for a confirmation email to prove who they say they are, but nothing. Very fishy and not at all like legitimate solicitors selling real advertising products.

This company is Direct Media Group out of Quebec.  The number is also linked to Impression Rinka and there is a 3rd so called business that I know of.

I was sold advertising on phone book covers July of 2011.  I was told it was going to be in households by September.  I should have asked what year.  Today August 20 2012, I just received the phone book cover more than a year later.  I had written it off as a scam.  Especially because after they received the initial order they called back with good news.  Another advertiser has cancelled and they can make my add bigger for more money if I send them a cheque within 24 hours. It was at that point I realized I just blew $870.

I did receive the phone book cover.  It was just a year late and looked like the edges were cut by preschoolers.  I hope they at least gave them safety scissors.

I had a sales person come to my office to sell this to me.  I should have know better.

DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS NUMBER

Received a call from this number trying to get me to purchase phone book covers ect.....That I was especially selected from businesses of my type. I told "Joanne" that when I googled the offer that it came up with a scam warning and that her number had been flagged as a possible scam tele ad. I told her I couldn't use her service till they sorted that out.

Received a call regarding an advertising promotion at "Emerald Buffet." I told her I hadn't heard of it, she seemed incredulous and repeated a couple of times that it was the largest Chinese food buffet in Ottawa and then hung up on me when I told her that I understood but I had still never heard of it. Crazy much?
