I tried this strategy, but he figured out he could busy out our company phone lines (we have 2) by calling, putting that line on hold, calling the other line, putting on hold, going back to first line and redial, etc.  We couldn't get incoming phone calls.  You are correct though, when we started answering and then just hanging up on him he went INSANE!

Its so satisfying to see it wasn't me that was the problem at Burt. I left there 2 years ago and I'm not even in the collection world any longer. Sadly these folks are not trained to do anything else. Make no mistake though when it comes to a management team NRS is much worse than Burt.
Keep trying:)

This guy has called my elderly father on two seperate occasions and has been vague and harassing over some type of business that we know nothing about.  He has asked several questions about a former employee of ours.  The company this man is asking my 81 year old father about is HERC or HURK or some variation there of.  This man tries to come across as semi menacing... and from what I can find on the Web is affilated with Burt Ans A**.  I truly think this person needs to back off.

This is the call you get before they turn a case over to an attourney. Yes I owed the money. Yes I paid it. They were not hard to deal with. If they didn't have thier number blocked on my phone I would not have been so suspicious. I did verify it with the folks that I owed the money to, before I agreed to pay these folks.

Intersting...  I had an attorney call and gave this number as the number to call him back.  I don't think he's actually an attorney.  I think he's representing a collection agency.  The debt he's trying to collect is actually legitimate, but so are the other 30 or so I have, so he can just get in line behind the IRS.  Good luck with that buddy.

Oh and when I actually tried to call him back I just get dead air and no ring.  So yeah, not calling you back!

i received a call from (469) 368-6479. the number he rang is my work/cell phone so i answered in the greeting of a business call. he was clearly confused by my greeting and said he was trying to reach another business. i think i told him he had the wrong number at which point he asked me was my address (my address here). i told him that it was my address but that this was a cell phone he was calling. he seemed confused again and asked me if i knew (relatives name here). at which point i immediately went on defense not answering his questions but responding with my own. i asked him his name and he said david. i asked who he was trying to reach. he gave me the name of the business my relative used to own. he said he has work for them and is tryin to reach the relative. i told him again that this was a cell phone. so i asked for a call back number that maybe i could try and get it to the right person. he said his cell phone number is (469) 368-6416 and his name was david. i said david who and he said david andrews (which he sounded reluctant to give). i told him i would see what i could do and hung up. i immediately searched the web as i have been contacted like this before for collectors trying to reach a different relative. i am not sure whether or not this was a legitimate call, i'll let the relative decide. but if this number is popping up on caller ids, i would ignore it.

Debt Collector
This is the most unprofessional business I've ever encountered.
They called and harassed and threatened me. Said they were going to bring my wife's credit into it (which is interesting since the debt they are questioning is a corporate business debt).
They have misrepresented themselves in a letter using the verbiage of a law firm when they are not.

I was first called by a guy who called himself Nelson Brooks. He's a grandiose jack*** who acts like he's far more important than his position entails. He calls from Burt's "World Headquarters" in Plano, TX. Don't you love little people who claim the world!?!?!????
He went straight to threats over the phone and after the first call only called from a blocked number (Does ANYONE ever answer a blocked number when they have voice mail????).
He kept telling me he was sending me an email and then I would get one from an "Alex Tejada". Will the real Nelson Brooks please stand up?

A couple of weeks went by and then a woman started to call. Non-threatening except that each call came with a deadline ("You need to call me not later than 10:00 this morning."). Her m.o. is to remain calm but to (try to) use big words and make things sound like legal terminology so she can portray representation of a law firm. Again, this is NOT a law firm.

So here's the funny part. PART of the debt is legit as the company I work for got behind with one of our vendors due to our wonderful economy ("hope and change" doesn't go very far when the bills are due. I prefer "work and payment".....). I've been making payments to the vendor as funds come in and am almost payed in full.

I wish I could be there when Burt and it's flunkies finally figure out that the debt's been paid and they have no claim here!

Got several harassing calls from them as well with all the same threats. Threatening my wife, etc.
Called the original company that I owed money to, told them we were on some hard cash flow times and that I'd make them payments when I could. In good faith, I gave them some money in an e-check over the phone. The Burt guys went NUTS that I went around them.
They've now doubled the calls to me but I don't answer blocked calls so we don't talk.
The guy (Nelson something) is incapable of leaving a message less than a minute and twenty seconds. I've been having fun making over/under bets with myself on how long he wants to hear himself talk each time.
This must be a HUGE company because all their communication lists their Plano address as their "WORLD HEADQUARTERS"!!!  Always good for a laugh!

Anyway...the original company is now taking my payments and I have an even greater reason to ignore his calls.
The most I have listened to any of his messages is, "This is Ne....."
The delete key on the iPhone is a wonderful thing!!!

Its so sad that certain people think that the company they work for has the secret and is better than the rest. Take Burt for instance. The entire time I was there I never saw a  400k month. But the company I work at now I have seen many 400k months and 600k is the norm. I believe Burt's little click of people that have been there for 3+ years are so worried that they will be out collected that they do everything they can to convince the new employee that they have no clue on how to collect. They continuously critique their style and what has worked for them. Its funny really! Because once that person gets with a new company and are allowed to shine and be built up the company makes more money. Then both parties benefit. Poor Burt they are legends in their own minds! They are doomed to be stuck in the same circle because they refuse to embrace new ideas. They all talk a very good game when it comes to change but they keep doing the same thing over and over. Then you got the assistant manager that goes through beating up the debtors on the phone and the employees also (pricky). A very sad little man.

Assert your rights.  I have worked for a collection attorney, which is much different than a collection agency(no rights, just can make phone calls).  Burt and Associates can doing nothing without a judgement.  You will first have to be served a petition by an attorney.  That is when you need to contact an attorney.  Burt and Associates will not be in business if nobody answers their phone calls, nor pay them any money.  The tatics they use are illegal.  Any legit company does not need to make threats, they will advise you on how they will proceed and follow through.  Report them to the FTC.

ignore ignore ignore...send letter stating to cease communication with you and third parties.

If you owe the debt, call the original creditor and make sure they still have rights to your account.  Try to work something out with them.  Once an account goes to an attorney, it will have extra costs associated with it, and if judgment is rendered they can garnish wages, bank accounts and so forth.COLLECTION AGENCIES CAN DO NOTHING. IGNORE THEM!

Hmm. Looks like I wasnt the only one who left Burt with regret. First off Jack if I had something to say I think you know I would have said it to your face. (Hold on let me pull out this chair for my balls). Staying quiet isnt the way I roll. Considering where I am now and the new employees that are coming in that had similiar issues with Burt you would need to spend more time trying to figure out who the previous employee is. Regardless, Life is too good now to worry about a previous employer. Sorry wasnt me.
