Got this call at my office...it's some kind of SCAM...do NOT fall for it!

Constant collect calls all day from "inmate in a Federal Prison".

message saying an inmate from a correctional institution was calling collect for me

My son Anthony ma  just call my cell phone couldn't except correct call and I don't have land line has no idea what wrong about him

Iv been qettin calls from this #(469-417-7880) and I know its someon calling from jail and I know its a jail in texas I'm juss not exactly sure which jail it is if anyon cld help meh out I'd appreciate it:) thanks

It Just somebody calling from the jail house , my boyfriend call me from that number every being of the month.

My husband and I got a call from 469-417-7880 today. The man said his name was Peter Coleman and  that we had won $2,500,000 plus a 2013 BMW. Even tho it sounded great, we both knew it was a scam. He called us back four times to see if we had gone to the bank to transfer $399.00 to him, in less then thirty minutes.Also wanted us to put the money on a money card from Krogers then send it to him. I spoke to him twice and told him I knew were he was calling from and I was reporting him as we spoke.. "Mr.Peter Coleman" did not want to speek to me, he wanted to speek to my husband. I refused to let him speek to my husband and sturnly told him he was not getting any money from me nor my husband! This "Peter Coleman" hung up on me. WOW what a shock. BEWARE PEOPLE, THEY ARE OUT TO GET YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!  CAN YOU SAY SCAM!!

Cherokee county Georgia is just full of a bunch of backwoods hillbillies with nothing to do. no education, no money, and no teeth.

Let me clarify the "C-Tel" mystery for everyone. Yes they are a provider for the phone systems that are located in Juvenile detention centers, TYC aka Texas Youth Commission and for the local jails and prisons. In order for an "inmate" to call you, your phone number has to be added to THEIR info sheet......they cant make calls at random. In TYC the (kids) write down the name and number, then their casemanager contacts their parent or legal guardian for verification and approval. If approved the casemanager and only the cm will put the number in their system. The recording at first does sound like its a collect call but usually its not, they are only allowed 2-3 ccalls to their contact, you can accept when they do but after the third cc, ctel then blocks that service. Meaning the ONLY way from then on is to put money on acct......now jails, they slightly vary........hope this helps clear up any misunderstandings. If you keep receiving calls from that number, chances are you have a loved one locked up. If so, my prayers are with them,,,,mama

Received first a "collect call" from someone named Curtis. Sounded very young. Hung up since there are so many scams going one these days.

Within minutes, received a second call from the same number claiming it was a pre-paid call from Curtis. The automated call also indicated it was coming from a corrections facility but did not indicate the location. Also identified the call originated from Consul Telecom. 469 is a Dallas, Texas area prefix.

Looked up the number on the "net" and found this reference. Although I feel very sorry for a young inmate in a prison or corrections facility, I don't know anyone by the given name "Curtis" who sounded like a young black person. If the calls continue, I will be reporting this activity to our local law enforcement people. I am concerned it is possibly an "offshore scam."

Received a completed call today -
It was an "authorized call" from a caller at the Gaineville State School for boys.

this is what yall do. find the number to put money on you phone and the inmates name. then you can talk to them.

I just got a call on my office line.   when answered there was a recording saying "your call has been accepted"  Then it was some guy and I would not give a name, and just kept asking him who he wanted.  Then he hung up....so not a collect call now?  caller id says irving, tx

that is because the jail uses that service.  all calls are collect.  you can put money on an account and they can then call anyone using that money and will not have to be collect.

Since it's been 4.5 months since Texas posted, it's unlikely he'll read your reply. If you google "cherokee county GA jail telephone" the first hit from cherokeega-sheriff.org states "Inmates are allowed to make collect calls from the facility?s telephone services between the hours of 6 am to 10 pm . Inmates who are on disciplinary segregation are not allowed to make general phone calls. Individuals who experience trouble accepting calls from an inmate or have questions about their bill may contact Consolidated Telecom at 1-800-583-9683. my brother is in the jail in cherokee county, georgia so how do i set up and account on my prepaid cell phone!!! he has been trying to get a hold of me for weeks i need to talk to him so please let me know what i can do to settle this problem!!! and how much does it cost????

This is a telephone company for correctional facilities. If you see their # its an inmate attempting to contact you and it is pre paid. No more collect calling... So be ready to set up an account if u want to receive a call from an inmate.

The number is from the Crockett State School in Crockett, TX. It's part of the Texas Youth Commission and houses youth offenders that are not old enough for the adult prison system.

Collect call from some correctional facility and the name was so mumbled I couldn't make it out. Didn't accept the charges, duh, but how did he get my number?

Its the jail in Cherokee, GA, My friend just called from there, they must be saving money thru another system. Figures.

Got a message on my answering machine too, it is Cherokee County Jail in GA like MS said. you will have to look up there direct number to talk to a detention officer so you can find out what it going on.

I received a call yesterday and it was from a person in Cherokee county jail.

My boy friend Marcos said the same thing. And he just found out that his brother is in jail in Canton, Ga. When i tried calling back for him the recording said that it is a telecom inc. Weird!!

Just calls every day. When I call back it says the normal office hours are  8-5 Monday-Friday. But they call every day.
