We wanted to sell the house since we will be staying longer than we thought so we searched for an agent and getting upon getting one we stroked a deal but later my wife advised me not to sell the house anymore. I reasoned with her and accepted her advice so we contacted the agent back and requested for our keys and documents and put it for rent since we will back to the house in the next 4 to 5 years.We would have given the same agent this job also but the truth of the matter is that the agent was asking too much of an agent fee and also made the rent high.We were not getting the responses we needed so i decided to terminated our contract with them and put it up for rent ourselves.If you notice, you will discover that the price we are offering is far below standard price and this is enough for you to know that we are not after the rental fee but the absolute care for the property.The house is available for as long as you want.The rent is $700 and $700 for Security Deposit For this 3BR/2.5BAth/2,050  sqft....Utilities such as Air Conditioner Dishwasher  Walk-in Closet Refrigerator  Vaulted Ceilings Washer/Dryer Cable etc are all included in the rent.

There is a post on craigslist with a home for rent in Middletown NY. The man claims his name is Eric Plett his phone # is 646-481-2849. The address of the property for rent is 8 Gabby Lane Middletown NY 10940. It is a scam. Please note that his reply email is similar to other one above he claims to have taken a job for a company Robotic Programmer Welder & Fitter and his wife Dianne is with Joyce Meyer Ministries. He contacted my husband last night not once but twice claiming he needed the money sent to him that he was unable to show the property due to him working in Illinois. He also sent my husband an email asking for name,present address, number of family member, pets and employment history. I also flagged the page on craiglist. He has an accent must be nigerian. Be careful when looking for homes or apartments to rent on craigslist this isn't the first one that I found is a scam. Some advice ask for their rental license for a property and never send money without seeing the place. Good Luck I hope no one gets taken by these people

I just went through this for a home listed in Jacksonville Florida: 1318 Avondale Ave. What a joke. The e-mails he sent me are nearly identical to some of the ones above, only he's calling himself "Leigh C Shannon" and signs the e-mails "Leigh C and Family." Luckly the Craigslist ad was already flagged for removal and I never called or sent anything to him. I really hope this has never actually worked for him.

I fell for the same exact scam. They sent the same exact letter to us saying they chose us as tenants but had relocated and couldn't meet with us in person. The address they claimed to own and rent is 38 Seaview Terrace, Guilford, CT.

I just got the same email this week in Florida....so he is still at it!  Same email, word for word, but for 101 E Orlando St, Orlando, FL 32804.  Name was Charles R Brown....which matches a listing on whitepages.com, but I also checked with the realtor, as well as online....plus it was suspicious that his grammar was so poor and he NEVER answered any specific questions I asked.  Will be reporting him to as many places as I can.

Same thing just happened to me in Redding, CA, inquired about a post on craigslist and was given the same email. This time the name was Saint S. Walmsley (I looked up the name and a Saint S. Walmsley passed away in Redding a year ago). Here is the email they sent us:

I got the exact same emails word for word!!! Only difference was his name was "Joseph Lopez".

My mom did research and found the same house listing on a legit website. She called the Realtor and he assured us that this man was not the owner of the house. We looked up the owner and his name was Tibebe Gashaw...nothing close to Joseph!

My mom called the local police and the local police said there had been no crime committed but for every few of us who realize it's a scam i'm sure there's one who is a victim to this mans scams. Hopefully this jerk if caught before more people get scammed!

He called me from a Texas Number 469-737-9418 at 10:12pm. I answered not knowing who would call so late and he said he is andrew (huge accent and barely could undertsand him) and I wanted to talk about the home. I said Andrew you're calling me from a Texas phone number, but you live in GA and had a home in Ohio? He said it was his personal cell. I asked him questions about the home.
1)when did you buy it .... his answer 10 years ago. Correct answer 2 years ago in foreclosure
2)what elementary school is the home in...his answer took 3 minutes before he said sawmill (half right, but took him a while.
3)we drove to the house and asked him who cuts the grass for home while he was gone and he had no answer.
I said what should we do from here: he said to fill out rental application and do everything else thru mail.
I told him thru my scepticism, I will be passing.

Hoffman of Albany, GA......also a member of the Ministries.....they almost got me, was totally excited, but never gave them any info.  I'd like to smack these folks around a bit.

We were almost scammed by whoever is using this phone number as well.  They told us an almost identical story to the one listed-  out of town, working in Atlanta, need someone to take care of the property, etc...  They wanted us to wire them money before we had a signed contract on the property.  

I wish there was a way to find these Jokers and lock them up.

Unfortunately I received the same emails. I found it weird when they mentioned about the 'don't be late or you'll be embarrased part as well as the laywer since they at first said that the realtor's fee was too high when the lawyer would take your money anyway. I did send my "application"  I decided to research the "laywer" and that's when I found this site. Is there a way to place this scam with police?

We were also almost scammed by the same artists.  Our initial email is below (names removed).
When we visited the property, it was clearly inhabited, which started our suspicion, which went downhill from there.  Unfortunately we had already sent the application, so we fear our address may be put up for rent next.  Only enough information is requested to do something like a rental listing - I think they do this because they know nobody would be comfortable giving more than name, address, and employer.  No credit check or history would be able to be performed with the little information requested.

The last email we received essentially said "just send money and you'll get the keys" which was a very different message than the previous email communications.  Below is how it started.  BEWARE!  (we also called the number but it only goes straight to voicemail - it's a Texas area code).

Someone is now running scams through Craigslist & other rental sites - they list houses/apartments for rent and try to scam you out of first months rent & security deposit. I insisted on talking on the phone before I went any further with the agreement and he gave me this number. in a strange twist he asked me to send the money to his "Attorney" Barry Aubert in Atlanta GA - a quick search of that name got me a mugshot of Mr. Aubert recently arrested for credit card fraud. SO - they are not smart but their emails are more convincing than the ridiculous broken English of lesser scammers.
