Just got a call from this number. A guy left a message saying his name was Robert Reed with United Investigations and that my SSN and bank account were being investigated for fraud. I've been getting these calls since 2010 when I took out a payday loan. I paid the loan back on time and never had any issues with that company directly but I'm sure that they sold my info to someone. At first the calls made me nervous but once I realized how big of a scam they were, they just got annoying.
I recently bought a new car and my credit came back nearly perfect so clearly I didn't default on any loans, especially not within just a few years.
I called "Robert" back to tell him to NOT call me anymore and he started yelling telling me that I would be arrested within a few hours unless I gave him my bank account number so that he could wire $340 out of it. He also asked me to confirm my SSN, birthday, and home address.
YEAH RIGHT BUDDY. GET A REAL JOB AND STOP TRYING TO SCAM PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same story as all the rest. This is obviously some low life scam artist "wannabee". I called the number and the jerk answered, but gave no information about himself or any relevant facts about my "so called contract". I told him to send the fictitious Sheriff to my home any time he liked. He got annoyed and hung up. Don't even bother to call them, it's an obvious scam!

The problem is that the authorities don't know who these idiots are either. They use Magic Jack VOIP lines on the internet which to date are not traceable. I think that Magic Jack needs to be a little more vigilant when allowing numbers; esp when the area code is 600 miles away from the "actual location" of their client. I think the saddest part of all this is that these idiots never stop; they pass your info along to their friends (I'm sure they're all linked somehow) so they can try to rob you. This has been going on for me for five years and I have only answered maybe three calls (cuz I was feeling feisty and argumentative) and told them straight out they're getting SH*T from me. You'd think they'd stop maybe? Five years and they still think I'm going to bang my head on the pavement and lose my memory; then end up paying them? WTF?! Sadly, I've been scam phone call free for 3 months and now it's started up again. They'd just better hope they don't catch me on the wrong day when I feel like ripping someone a new one. I can't think of a more worthy candidate than a lying scumbag thief....

Mo, you made two typographical errors.  I believed you meant to say "they are an illegitimate payday loan collector and I work for them".  So let me clear things up for readers.  This is a scam.  These are criminals attempting to defraud you of your money.  Mo is just a sorry shill employee posting on this board to lend credibility to his despicable criminal operation.

Nothing "happened" to the federal Do Not Call registry. Something did not happen when you registered, mainly that you failed to read and comprehend its actual purpose and scope.

The DNC exists to help enforce the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Please note the operative term ''marketing''. A debt collector is not a sales person and is therefore not covered. Here are the DNC service terms you were supposed to review at registration time:

National Do Not Call Registry Q&A
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry

If I can read into your "five years" reference, that is based on outdated information. DNC registrations initially carried a five year expiration, but just before the popular program turned five years old in 2009 all registrations were reset to *never* expire.

Finally, back on topic .... Debt collectors, real and fake ones, are covered by their own set of state and federal laws which, among many other provisions, give you the right to limit or ban all phone contact. Here's official material on federal law:

You'll have a long wait for anyone to be jailed for payday loan debt. The operative word is "loan"; a PDL is *not* a "hot check". Consumer debt in America is *not a crime*. Your local police do *not* assist the business of debt collection. Any thug on the phone who says different is a lawbreaker who needs to be sued naked by each of his victims.

Official-type material on US federal collection law:
http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpajump.shtm
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/search ... bt%20Collection

Odd, the area code is for Georgia.     Seems a classic case of PDL scammers spoofing someone's phone number.

When you call the number back and hit '0', you get a country club in Bonita Springs, FL. I work at this club. Every time someone who gets one of the harrassing phone calls attempts to call them back, they get our office. I have been screamed at, cursed at, etc. I attempt to explain that the number routing is not correct. I have even attempted to contact the calling company to no avail. This is very frustrating.

This is not only a scam but individuals trying to get your personal information so that they can open accounts in your name, get credit cards in your name and also get loans for thousands of dollars in your name and having the money deposited into checking/savings accounts they opened up in your name with your information! Unfortunately for them that I work for the police department here in my hometown and I was able to track the bank accounts down and have them put security measures in place and to hold any funds deposited into said account! When they go in to withdraw funds from the account the bank will delay the perps long enough for my Law Enforcement buddies from that town to swoop in and arrest them! As far as my credit files or anyone who has been victimized by this group of low life criminals you can have the Credit Burea's put a warning on your files that will alert you to any requests for your information in your credit file! Please take caution seriously because this is not just a small group set up, it is a well organized set of groups nationwide and the best thing to do is to just hang up and if you have specific number blocking on your phone block their numbers so they get the message you are unavailable! I hope that this information comes in handy and helps out individuals who are getting contacted by this organization of criminals.

Let your family know that you're being harassed by a scammer.  It would also be good for you to print this page out and give to your HR Dept at work (or manager, if no HR Dept) to let them know what's going on.  You have nothing to worry about.  Unfortunately, lots of people get these calls and some of them end up paying because they're so frightened, even if they don't owe a debt to anyone.

And remember, even if you did have a debt, legitimate debt collectors are legally required to send you a debt validation letter proving you owe this debt and that they are able to claim and collect it.  Read up on the FDCPA and learn your rights as a consumer.

Oh, and if the guy calls back, tell him you're recording all calls from him (even if you're not) and report him to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

Just got the call and googled the number to find this post.  I must say, my phone is a company cell phone and I often get calls from the previous owner of the phone number.  I'd just like to know who to report this to.  This number is on the DNC list and should be protected from callers such as this.  Obviously not legit, but I sure as heck don't want calls for 5 years from this autogenerated dialer. I have to answer all calls to this number for 2 reasons - I have a son who is in the Marines, missing his call would be aweful and it's a company phone which means it could be a client.
As always - anyone receiving this call, be leery of infromation you give out over the phone!

Just received a call claiming that he was taking legal action against me and that I will hear from a prosecutor soon.  When we called back, he was abrupt, rude and wouldn't disclose his name or company info.  Later, his number put me through to a voicemail belonging to one 'Alex Banks'...I also suspect fraud.

I got a call from this number and he left a message but did not name names but said a contract is being investigated for fraud purposes and that this will sent to the county magistrate court and that the papers will be sent to the county district attorney. He never said his name or anyone's name. I think it's a fraud like all the others
said I had to call this number to avoid prosecution and documents were being sent to the county attorney for prosecution.

Just got this same call all have received, this morning on cell phone.  No names were mentioned, just someone reading from a script about a fraudulent contract and I needed to call this number (470-203-0550) and give a statement or it would be sent to my county magistrate court and county district attorney.  A reputable collection agency gives a name who is calling at least. This could be from any scammer.

Got a voice mail from this number-Caller said his name was Alex Banks, (but didn't leave a company name, law firm, ect..). He said he was calling regarding some fraud case and threatened penal actions if I didn't respond. When I called some guy answered with a simple "Hello" Now, most company reps answer by at least identifying who they are (ex:"Thank you for calling XXX company, this is xxx...how may I direct your call...). So, this guy asks who I am, I give my name and I get transferred to this Alex Banks guy, and the first thing he asks is what number was the message left on, and then says that he is looking for XXX (who is actually my sister) and that she is being investigated for attempting to defraud some companies. So I asked for information that I KNOW he shouldn't give me, and he gave it to me anyway! TOTALLY Illegal and no real lawyer or attorney worth the paper used to print his degree, would give out that much (detailed) information to a person. He didn't even verify who I was! STRAIGHT SCAM...Mr. banks...go to h***!! I hope you get busted! Get a real job instead of trying to take money from people who actually earned theirs legitimately!
