Got call from this number. No message....Wife received call from same number, no message 12:30 pm. Both calls same time frame.

I got a call from this number yesterday evening.  Just one ring and then hung up.  I tried calling back and got the same thing with the techno music and an automated female voice saying "wait for operator".  I'm wondering if this is in connection with a recent email communication I had with a craigslist person that was interested in buying something from me and when I gave them my address and phone number they never showed up.  When I questioned if they were still coming to make the purchase I got an email reply saying they had changed their mind.  About 5 minutes after that is when I got the strange call.  I definitely know I got scammed and now this person has my phone number and address.  So done with craigslist now.

Called me at 1 am tonight! They did not leave a message and I did not pick up.

Although certain specific area codes are mentioned in the article, it would be quite easy to generalize the scam to other countries in the Caribbean.

The latest crop of phone calls also seem to be slightly different from the scam being described in the article because the caller doesn't have any intention of talking to you.  All the scammer wants is that you get upset enough about the late night call that you return the call, never even noticing that it is from a foreign country outside the reach of US or Canadian laws.  When you return the call (at international rates), there is also a big surcharge to your phone bill that gets passed along to the scammer.

That's why either:
(1) you can't return the phone call, because even though you would otherwise be able to dial it like an ordinary long distance number, you phone company has a restriction on your placing international calls (which these are).  If so, consider yourself lucky.  Or,
(2) when you call back and get through, they keep you on hold for as long as possible to run up your phone bill and their profits.

The scammers don't have to be associated with recent security breaches.  All they have to do is randomly dial a lot of telephone numbers in already-assigned area codes.  And they must be dialing a LOT of them based on the complaints logged to 800notes.  It probably doesn't cost them anything to dial, either, if the called party (you) doesn't pick up the call before they hang up.  

It only takes a small percentage of angry and/or curious people calling back for them to make a lot of money.  They don't even have to pay for real people to operate a call center -- it's all done by machines, outside the reach of US and Canadian law enforcement.

Got a call from this number at 1pm EST. I didn't answer and they left no message. I called them back and got techno music that played while it said "please wait for the operator" for 5 minutes.

I'm afraid it has something to do with my recent sign up with mPoints...

473-520-9794 called & I didn't answer. I too have 'Straight Talk'...

Got 2 calls around 3:30 am this morning.  

Three times now I get a call in the middle of the night. This last one was at 1:46 am. The caller doesn't leave a message and hangs up before I can answer it.

Got a call from these people many times tonight. They never leave a message and I can't seem to reach them.

This number is calling me late at night.

Creepy just block it. I blocked this number and I got another one at 11:00 pm a few days later

why don't we all try to call at 0345 (345 am) and drive his voicemail nuts with thousands of calls in one night?

I received a call from this number on 12/17 in the early morning hours. No message was left.

Just got a call at 4:29 am which why I am up sending this email. It rang twice then hung up. Not good.

473 is the Caribbean island nation of Grenada. I also got a hangup call from them at 11pm

I have gotten a few phone calls from (473) 520-9792, but I never answer unknown numbers.  I am curious if the other people who have posted have Straight Talk.  This number calls at odd times and never leaves a voice message.  

Called at 3:45 am...number listed as from Grenada...left no message.  Just glad I had turned ringer off.  

Missed call at 2:42am, no message.

Called at 12:41pm....said from Grenada. Didn't answer and they didn't leave message.

This number has called me 2 Friday nights in a row at 3am. Unacceptable. No message.
