So I called the number and got "Wells Fargo Card Services."  The nice woman with the Indian accent asked for my account number.  I told her I was not a customer but was receiving a harrassing number of calls to my cell and messages looking for someone I've never heard of or leaving 6-10 hang ups a day. She took my number, pulled it up on her computer (allegedly) and asked if I knew this person.  When I confirmed that I did not, she told me she would remove my number and the calls should stop immediately.  Fingers crossed!

I received 10 calls in two days, with an automated voice message asking for my ex wife.  I called the legitimate Wells Fargo number, and they told me it was a scam.

Then the fun part:  I called the 503 403 2657 number back and got the "Welcome to Wells Fargo" message.  When a human came on, he immediately asked for my credit card number.  I told him, "You called me, why not tell me what the account number is?"  "We don't give out that information over the phone" was his response.  Really!!.  However, he told me he could accept my social security number since I didn't want to give out credit card information.  Really!!  I messed with him for another few minutes until he finally hung up on me.

I called the number 10 minutes later and spoke to another "Wells Fargo" representative who wanted all the same info as guy #1.  This one told me they have 3 seperate collection centers - one in Portland, one in Iowa and one in Salt Lake City. She lasted a little longer than the first one, but still hung up on me.

I have no idea if my ex wife is late on her credit card or not, but this was just too questionable to give out ANY information.

No calls today, so it must have worked.

I am getting these calls on a Verizon cell phone at all times of the day. they only let it ring twice then hang up. I would answer them to find out how to stop the calls but I have a policy of never answering a call from outside my area code that I dont know. I have no dealings with wells fargo and I never will. I would think that a real bank would leave a message to call them back.

This number called me to reach my son, who is in college.  They identified themselves as "Wells Fargo Card Services" and wanted to talk to my kid.  I told them he moved away to college, gave them the number, and told them we didn't have much contact with him anymore.  They said they'd report it.  That was two days ago.  The next morning, I received another call from Oregon, and this time I was less than polite.  I explained I already informed them the party they were trying to reach did not live there and had already given them the number.  She said whoever called before failed to post it in the computer but that she would post it.  I gave her the number, made her repeat it, and I hung up.  Since then, I have received five calls an hour from that number.  Today, I called it myself from another number, and I told them if they were attempting to collect a debt, they were now in violation of FDCPA of 1977 and I was going to seek civil damages.  I insisted on being transferred to a supervisor.  After 25 minutes, I was, and she pretended not to hear me.  This is a scam.  She attempted to get me to give SSNs and credit card numbers, and I refused.  "How stupid do you think I am?" I asked her.  "Pretty effin stupid" she laughed, and hung up.  Don't know how to stop this.  I hear if you block that number, they'll just use a different extension.

I've read on a few message boards about people reporting this number as a scam.
I refuse to answer numbers that I do not know.
This number does not leave a voicemail.
I have received 6 phone calls from this number in the past 2 hours.
Is there any way for me to block this number or report some sort of harrassment??
I'm worried this number will start contacting my family as well.

I am exhausted from receiving unsolicited calls from this number.  I work quite early in the morning and have been disturbed every night since 10/12/09.  I don't know who owns the number.  I don't have any dealings or business with Wells Fargo.  In addition, I have no consumer debt and no contact with collection agencies.  These are the calls that I have received:
10/12/09 9:23 am, 11:01 am, 8:53 pm
10/13/09 9:21 am, 8:33  pm
10/14/09 9:16 am, 8:32  pm
10/15/09 9:18 am, 1:25  pm, 8:26 pm

We just received a call Today - Sunday of a Bank Holiday Weekend (However you feel about Colubus Day, the banks are still Closed on Monday), okay I know better than that to begin with and definitely that if a Bank is calling me about an Account, they would ALREADY KNOW YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER, they're the BANK.

These are not simple fly-by-night scammers, somehow they came up w/my Debit Card # last Summer and really caused us headaches when my ATM card stopped working while on Vacation and had to go to Well's Fargo to figure out getting home and such other trivial matters when one's card stops working, fortunately at least there are Wells Fargo Banks in Oregon but THIS IS NOT THE BANK because I just got off the phone w/WELLS FARGO FREUD DEPARTMENT who indicated they were having this problem w/a number of their customers, many who apparently are not aware of NOT GIVING YOUR INFORMATION OUT TO ANYONE CALLING YOU EVER, I'm actually surprised the Caller ID registered the #, I'm going to Notify the John Walsh @ AMW about this in case the folks who apparently may be even OUT OF THE COUNTRY have been attempting the same Identity Theft and Robberies in other States, just in case this may be people who have traversed various States previously attempting their ill-will on innocent Americans, for this is not a Scam to sell you something that isn't going to work, this is IDENTITY THEFT at it's most vulnerable points. In addition, what are these people doing w/the $ they do get, kind of scary to think about isn't it?

Okay just thought I'd give you an update STRAIGHT FROM WELLS FARGO FREUD DEPARTMENT as of this afternoon - Note once again: IT IS NOT WELLS FARGO, the person who confirmed earlier that it was even on this board is INCORRECT.

Thanks and best wishes in keeping you information as Private as possible in such a public World.

I again called 503-403-2657 and got a real live human being this time.  She answered with "Wells Farge Card Services".  I explained that I was receiving calls from this number and gave her the number and wanted to know why.  She asked if I was Earnest Corbit and I answered that I was not, but that he had this phone number before I got it last year.  She said thank you, and stated she would remove the number from their data base.  We will see.

We have received calls at 0831 for the last four days from this number and no one has come on the line from the calling number.  I called the number today and it was identified as Wells Fargo.  I spent 34 min. on hold and was then disconnected.  We do not have any accounts with Wells Fargo.  At this point I am unable to figure out what is going on.

Keep getting phone calls from 503-403-2657 on my son's phone. He called back one time and found it was an automated answering service for Wells Fargo Bank and then hanged up. He is 14 and has nothing to do with Wells Fargo. The same number called his phone 4 times today alone. Since it is an automated answering service, I am not sure how to get them to stop.

Argh.  I suddenly starting getting bombarded as well with out of the blue calls from this same number just this week.  Up to a couple of dozen calls, v-mails/hang-ups in a few days so far. Knew something had to be wrong. Even the most obnoxious collections "agents" are not THAT persistent, are they?  That said, the first few voicemails did have a live person asking for a male name that I didn't recognize (and unfortunately now don't remember).  At the time I just assumed it was some collection agency and that sooner or later they'd figure out they had a bad number for this guy (perhaps if they actually bothered to LISTEN to my outgoing greeting they'd know it's not their guy), but it's starting to get pretty intrusive. After about 8 calls the vmails stopped and now they just hang on the line long enough to leave me a hang up vmail.  Nice.

These people keep calling and calling. I never answer because I don't know the number. They once left an accidental voicemail and it was just background noise then it sounded like someone said "Sh*t!" and hung up. After that, they started calling my home number!

Do NOT give these people any information....they are scammers.  I called back and this guy from India said "hi Wells Fargo may I have your credit card number" and I said "absolutely not, can I get your name and office location" and he said his name was Fred and he could not think of a location.

DON'T GIVE IN AND GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFO!!!!

Today, thus far, I have rec'd the following calls from this number:

July 4 2009:
8:13am, 9:58am, 10:46am, 11:29am, 2:19pm

That is 5 so far, and today is a holiday. What really angers me is that yesterday I explained the situation for the 100th time to a Wells Fargo employee, only to be transferred, then transferred, then placed on hold for 2 hours (I had it on speakerphone on fax machine) before I finally hung up. This is what has been going on with Wells for months and months now.

not sure why they were calling me but once I called back they immediately wanted the last four of my "wife's" social.  I asked what for and was told that they could only give that info once verified.  That it was concerning her business.  I told them to call her cell adn hung up...

It is the collections dept at Wells Fargo.  Their 800 lines all have different ext's with a 503 prefix.  That's just one automated extension dialing out.

Called Wells Fargo, since we were getting the same problem. They said all their numbers are prefaced with 800, no matter what. They don't know how to make the calls stop either. Sorry.
