I got a call just like u described. It was a couple months ago and from a different number. It was strange though. It said it was an employment agency and they were contacting me because I had "idicated online that I wanted them to". (I didn't anD the company doesn't exist) it didn't seem like it was from a business. It called 2. Times in a row. Oh and then the same numbeR called a different cell in my home a couple days later. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I don't think it was ranDom. But I don't see what anyone WoulD accompLish by calling us A few times.

There are many different criminals out there doing this.  But I suspect as somebody reported many different calls will come from the same crooks.

Whatever makes you think they stopped because you reported them?  They are hitting up every number in the country, they call a certain number of times then move on once you don't respond.

Having said that ... Yes!  report to the FCC site.  This data tells them something is going on.  They have shutdown some, but the crooks will move on with a new number or pitch fairly fast.  Also many of them forge the caller ID number, so one is reporting a forged caller ID to start with.

It is a Credit Card company wanted to reduce your interest rate on all your cards to 6.5%.  I push #1 and ask them not to hang up and to please take my name off their list because I don't have any cards with a balance and before I finish saying cards with a balance they hang up  The other numbers doing the same thing are:  715-254-0350, 801-823-2030, 723-674-9999, 503-457-1836, 503-902-8112 and 701-661-1003.  I have SUCCESSFULLY reported B of A for doing the same thing.  They have now stopped.  Now to contact the FTC about these and get them stopped.  It's easy to do, just fill out the form and answer the questions, within 2 days B of A ceased.  And I was never late with B of A on my Mortgage either.  Too important not to be late.  Never have been, never will be even though they encouraged me to be to help me refinance, I said bu***hit...why should I ruin my credit rating.

There are a number of these scams out there, but I suspect that many of the calls we get are different versions from the same criminals.

I have had the same experience as JP.  I used to answer and say "hello".  I used to press those "take me off the list" numbers.  When I stopped doing that the number of calls went down.  A computer usually can tell if a real person or a machine is answering by the tone and cadence of the voice.  Its part of the predictive dialing features in their machines.  Often after answering "hello" and getting hung up on I just told them "Yes I am at home now" and I got several pushy calls in the next 1/2 hour or so.

It's not just scams, people taking surveys, charities, political hacks and others not prohibited from calling by the "Do Not Call" list may do this as well.  They are all using these idiotic predictive dialing machines to try to give them an edge.   We need a new set of laws banning all this crap.

I agree with Robert.  If you have an answering machine, let it pick up.  Usually they'll ring 3 or 4 times before they hang up.  If it's important they'll leave message.  If you have called ID and you don't recognize the number don't pick up, call back, or talk to anyone in person.  By pressing a # to stop the calls like the caller say, you're letting them know you're a live number.  I had been getting a lot of calls but now they seem to be less frequent because I don't answer unless I recognize the number. It sucks we have to resort to being hostages by these a-holes but until they come up with something better I'll keep screening all calls.

They just called. Auto message that sounds like they are threatening to cut off a credit card and that they have sent numerous "courtesy calls and mailings" before they have to shut down account, then goes on to say that if you owe more that $3000, they can help lower your interest rate and to push "one" for more information. We're on a no-call list as well, so not sure how they get away with calling. They never mentioned their company name.

I have to agree with DK.  When dealing with someone you don't know about, especially a potential scam its best to not reply at all.

For example sometimes they tell you if you press the "9" button you will be added to their don't call list.  But a real person can do this while an answering machine can't.  You just told them "You've got a live one here" and that info can be used to call you again (especially at the same time of day), it can be sold to other scammers or people who gather data etc.
Calling them back is not a good idea either.

I also get numerous calls from these people. I have waited to talk to someone, to ask them how they got my number and they stated that because I have great credit. I have no credit cards my credit is so so. When I asked them to send me something in the mail. I had this nasty women repeated at least three or four times that she did send me something. I told her that I never receive it. I them told her to take me off their list because i was on the do not call list. She them hung up.  I tried to call back but of course, it was discounted. Yeah right!!!!

This number calls on average of 4x per week.  Sometimes 2x in one day!   Once I tried to use the request for help button and just held without any answer from anyone.  What does this caller benefit from such annoying tactic?  I have an elderly husband who is very sick and he has to answer the phone when I'm out.  I am on all "Do Not Call" lists I can find.  Some I even paid to be on.  Why aren't they effective?  Can anything be done? What?

No that won't work. Now they think you're really interested and will keep calling. Plus, you're out for a long distance call. I got a call with the same number. No answer. I'm waiting for the next call with a whistle near the phone.

Hi - just got a call from this number, Cardmember Services, trying to lower my credit card interest rate.  I don't even have a credit card balance?  I called the number back and it gave me a recorded option to be added to their do not call list.  Don't know if it will work, but hope so.
