I am a student of Meritus University and I am proud to say it! Yes they call and call call. HOWEVER if you tell them not to they wont anymore!!! DUH! They are accredited and they do care about their students they will help in anyway they can. I get to work raise my family and get my degree all at once and It is wonderful.
So people obviously you should use your head and simply say dont call me anymore instead of ignoring them or playing along!! HELLO I am sure they have better things to do than call people who aren't interested all day!!!

Get a grip!

There is nothing they can get off your transcripts. I dont know why they said free courses but what they will do is see if there are any transferable credits from your degree so you can be exempt from courses you had already taken. If you dont want them to call you have to tell them not to call. Dont pretend your interested in something your not. I guarantee if you tell them to never call you again they wont. If you want a degree then Meritus really is a good way to get one because they are one of very few online universities that are accredited. ( I did my research) As for getting your information. It doesn't come from the sky. You filled out something that said you were interested in furthering your education.

DUH if you dont want someone to call you all you have to do is say dont call me please!! What is wrong with people! Other universities do recognize the credits you receive there so why dont you do your research properly and stop mis-informing!
I am enrolling there and I have the proper information that I gained on my own by doing proper research!!!!!!!!!!!
Meritus has not had a legal problem to date!

Perhaps if you had some education you would know the difference between "your" and "you're", but instead you're stuck in a dead end job calling honest people who don't want to talk to you. Sad.

Hi, I checked out Meritus when I was thinking of enrolling and sent out the information to various Universities I have attended in the past. I asked U of T, Ryerson Univerisity and even Richard Ivey school of Business all based in Toronto if I received a degree from Meritus whether they would accept my degree or transfer credits.... They have all checked the courses and the school out and said yes. In addition, Meritus U is a school on the list of institutions eligible for OSAP (Ontario, government student loans).... (Not sure when you checked your information out because when I was able to obtain a loan for OSAP with this school). I also have a good friend who holds a very high position at a large company who is subsidizing her MBA as well as other of their employees degree's at that school...

I actually agree with you. I am currently enrolled at Meritus and I also take classes from both U of T and Ryerson. My grades at all three institutions are 4.0's but I work much harder at Meritus. With Meritus I have to post 2 discussion questions a day for 4 days as well as write two initial discussions per week and complete a demanding weekly essay. By contrast, I write about on average 1 assignment during my scheduled course, 1 mid-term and one exam per class I take at other schools. Studying for an exam is difficult but when I assess the knowledge I have gained from all institutions I can say that I forget a lot of the knowledge I have gained by studying for an exam (and yes this is even after getting above 90%) then when I relate the knowledge I have learned in a weekly assignment.

Either way, there are pro's and con's to each learning environment. I decided to get my Bachelor's from Meritus U, and some certificate programs from U of T and Ryerson. This way I can show employers that I have the diversity and discipline to finish a degree, and if they are worried about the online format I can demonstrate I also have some in class experience at highly recognized Universities. I also plan of getting my MBA from Ryerson to make sure it's all balanced out.

In my opinion, having experienced both types of schools, I can say that an accredited online University is just as worthy as a traditional University, both many many people are afraid of change and have a hard time accepting this fact, so I am covering this my back until people get over their unfounded and unstudied stereotypes. Until then I hope I can do whatever I can to help educate people on the merit of accredited online education.

Also I got a student line of credit from my bank for this university. Why are you telling people to research? Why dont you just research yourself so you wont be so negatively impacting a very real and earth friendly way to earn a degree. Get with the program the future is here!

All,

I can assure you Meritus in no joke, nor is it a scam. They are an accredited institute in the Province of New Brunswick, same as UNB or St.Thomas. Care to question their credentials?

The difference between those residential programs and the online format is participation requirements. With Meritus, 30% of your mark is based on participating in the online discussions and responding to questions from the facilitator, plus there are weekly requirements to respond to your classmate’s responses, called substantive posts, you are required to complete six posts per week, on three seperate days, plus the other assignments. Yes and no answers are worthless and do not suffice as you are required to interaction and provide value to the discussions.

The remaining 70% of your mark is based on assignments, both individual and team collaborations. They follow stringent standards and are very demanding at times. Try working with someone from the middle-east and coordinating meetings with them. Not a simple task and requires exceptional organizational skills. I have completed course at Meritus U, Nippissing University in North Bay, ON, and Memorial University in St. John’s, NL, I would rather attend a residential program any day, as they are far less demanding and easier to pass than Meritus U. The benefit to Meritus, flexible timings and you actually learn something useful...

I got a call from them after I did my homework. I am interested to get my MBA as this was dictated from my employer. I find out that they are accredited in New Brunswick, I have not started yet as I am not totally convinced online is for me. However, I dont really care if it is a private or public company, if they offer a program that will help me in my career who really cares if it is making profit. Like I said my concern is that I need to go to a classroom as I have a hard time to do something without any personal interaction.  Even though the nice lady explain to me that she will work with me to get through the first class. I explain that I really need to physical interaction with others in the class. I am looking at Uof Toronto and planning to start in September. My boss will give me the afternoons office for 3 days a week to get the MBA so hoping to have my degree in 2 years.

I understand that the University of Pheonix had 50,000 graduates last year alone. They maybe for profit but at least I dont have to worry about my hard earned tax dollars being to given to them. Unlike public Universities they have been getting funds from the government for decades. As for Meritus University, they offer the same sort of degree program as any other institution in Canada.

The province of New Brunswick does provide students living in New Brunswick with a student loan for an education through Meritus University. I know because I am a student of Meritus and I have been assessed and am receiving funds from my province as well as the federal government. This whole forum is straight-out ridiculous with the claims made against Meritus. If they call and you haven't requested information just ANSWER THE PHONE AND SAY YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED. You don't have to be a genuis to come up with that solution. Y'all should give the herb a rest for a while. Regain some brain cells.

I just received a phone call from an employee  at Meritus. She recommended OSAP and offered to help me through the application process. I went to the OSAP website and on it they have a search tool to search for accredited schools and Meritus was on there.

I live in NB and know that Meritus is a real university. It is a sister college to the University of Pheonix. Yes it is online and it is for-profit but they are accredited byt the province of NB to offer post-secondary education. In Canada, post-secondary education is governed by the institute's host province. So, in case you were wondering, it is a legitimate university.

How they are getting unlisted numbers and/or numbers of people who are not requesting information...I do not have that answer.

Wow...alot of people making comments that didn't do very much research because they received phone calls and I agree there are alot of scams out there but Meritus U is accredited, as my brother in law finished his masters in business using Meritus U courses.  The major universities do accept the course credits in part or whole and since he has finished his degree with them retained a job in Toronto with a large company starting salary of $110,000 annual.

If you are looking for a scam company operating in Canada beware of calls from a company named US Group America Inc as you will lose money with them.

The Meritus U gains you contact information on interest forms that you fill out and will continue to call til they contact you and you tell not too as that is part of there job.  For the people upset that it is profit company, unless you attending your provincial community collage just about every collage and university is out for a profit.

Another way your phone number makes it way around to affliate groups is through Rogers.  Though they deny they sell or distribute your information, I did a test case in which I set up an account with them using a false name at one of my properities and the home phone I set up with them, I did not use or distribute at all.

It took 2 weeks before I was receiving all sorts of mail and phone calls from various offers of credit cards, easy loans, business propsitions and so forth.  So when people use the word scam be alittle more specific on what the scam is because every company out there is looking for your business and money which means they are all scammers known or not.

I really wonder why someone would enroll in Meritus? Don't be so convinced that other univerities will recognize courses/credits or even undergrade degrees if you want to move on!  There are many less concerning institutions which offer quality degrees - so why enroll here? Meritus is an actual university - BUT lets be clear it is a private company which has authority from the government of New Brunswick to grant degrees.  I have no idea why they would do so but this gives Meritus a foothold in Canada hence they are spreading but your degree is granted under the authority of the government of New Brunswick.  Meritus is a subsidiary of the Apollo Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: APOL).  Yes, it's very different and, at the end of the day, they are responsive to shareholders.  It's all about profit - hence the phone calls. Some of Apollo's other higher-learning institutions (i.e., University of Phoenix) have been in frequent legal and regulatory controversies and they have a pathetic graduation success rate!

Wow there are some paranoid people out there!!  Meritus is a actual university and all of their credits ARE recognized at any university.  In fact the Canadian military is paying for my degree from there right now.  Some so called university graduate was claiming that it is some sort of fake university.  I wonder what kind of degree they got probably had nothing to do with actual research, because if you spend 30 seconds on google you will see that it is legit.
