got a call from 510-201-5507...this is not the first time.  they never say anything...how do I block this caller?

Sadly, I do not believe this is Disabled AmVets, they send out mailings for contributions, and I do not believe that organization would stoop to this type of harassment.

I am a sucker for vets and kids and am always tempted to donate when asked, but after being scammed a few times, I have learned to investigate the requests thoroughly before agreeing to donate.  I regularly donate to my favorite childrens hospitals and charities and groups like Wounded Warriors and DAV.  

The times I have made phone calls to the charitable organizations about the phone calls I received asking for pledges, I found out that even when the call is legitimate (which is less than 50%), a VERY SMALL percentage of the pledge (no more than $5 for every $25 donated) goes to the charity.  The rest covers the telemarketing costs.  Some charities agree to this because that is $5 they wouldn't have had otherwise.

It is my belief that if everyone would more conscientiously donate to their favorite charities whenever they are able, the telemarketers would get tired of people saying "I already donated directly", and find a new way to scam people.  And, if you are willing to donate $25 to a charity, why not send it to them directly so they get the full $25 instead of pennies on the dollar?

I have been getting calls from this number about once a day or more at different times for the past 2 or 3 months. The caller ID says Service Call and shows the number, 510-201-5507. If I answer, there is no one on the other end and the line just goes dead after a short time. If I don't answer, they don't leave a message and the Caller ID says Service Call and the number.
Finally today I called the number back and just got an answering machine that said I had reached Pauline? and to leave a message and she would get back to me as soon as she can. I stated that I did not want to receive anymore calls from her number and that I was reporting it to the do not call registry, which I did.
These calls happen often, sometimes more than once a day and at different times of the day or evening. We are also registered on the Do Not Call List.  Every one who gets calls from this number should report it to donotcall.gov.  You do not have to be on the Do Not Call Registry in order to file a complaint.  However you have to tell the caller not to call anymore before filing a complaint. I left a message on the answering machine. That should be good enough.
I really don't know what good the Do Not Call Registry does when Political Calls, Debt Collectors, Charities and places that you have done business with before are exempt from the rules.

Please check your phone provider. I have comcast phone and internet, so i can go into my account online and block up to 12 numbers and also any unknown or private numbers by clicking those boxes.  I have Sprint for my mobile phone and I can go online to my account and block 99 numbers for calls or texts as well.  It does not solve the problem with these telemarketers, but at lease you can stop them from calling your home or mobile phone.  They will hear on their end that this number is not accepting calls at this time.  Try it.

Oh how I agree with Velda. So wish there was an "instant" fix for these annoying phone calls that are not welcome. I am also on Do Not Call List. I'd hate to see how many calls I'd get if I wasn't on it!  These nuisance calls seem to go by cycles. Rarely do I answer them but occasionally I will and after saying no to whatever they are pushing and not getting anywhere the call usually ends when I ask if they understand the meaning of "no". Then another nuisance call will take over eventually.Whatever happened to decency?

Finally got an answer today.  They've been calling 4 to 8 times a day for the past few weeks.  I HAD been ignoring it because it said "SERVICE CALL" and I figured it was someone trying to sell us something.  I went from not answering to picking up the phone.  No answer at the other end.  Tried to call back the number and it wouldn't go through (no ringing noise) or it would time-out and come back with a message saying the line was busy and to try the call again later.  Turns out this is one of the disabled veterans organizations (at least that's what they say) and when I complained to him he said he apologizes but they use an automatic dialer and after three rings it cuts off but sometimes the call doesn't drop.  I told him I wanted them to stop calling but he just went into his sales pitch again.  I kept interupting and saying I want the calls to stop but there was no acknowledgement on his part.  So basically....  if you don't answer or give money they will continue harassing you forever.  If  you give money they'll stop calling for a month or two.  I'm so pissed off that I could spit.  I wish I knew where their office was and exactly who I was talking to so I could visit them face-to-face.  Sad part of this all is that my husband is a Vietnam vet and after treatments for prostate cancer, he is now fighting lymphoma.  He would like to take naps and we had to turn off the ringer on the phone in the bedroom because of all the scams and charities that won't take no for an answer.  I'd love to have an automated calling program and the home phone numbers for all of these telemarketers.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Get a call everyday.  No message, just annoying

I have been receiving calls almost daily from this number.  Caller ID shows "Service Call", but after there is never anyone on the line, just dead air.

Daily calls from this "Service Call" number; had to make room and add them to the Call Block list on my phone.  D***hits just will not leave me alone!!!

Man called saying hello 2 times, then hung up.  Caller ID says "Service Call".  I have nothing in service nor have I ever as that goes.

We received a call from this number.  and no one answers.  Tired of getting calls from this number.

scam - they want money and would not remove my name from the list! Illegal frauds!

Called ID indicated " service call "  Googled the number, and I see many have received calls from this number.

I called the number back.  Voice mail merely answers " Hello.  We are currently closed.  Please leave a message in our general mailbox ".

8:39 PM EDT We never pick up on unknown numbers. Caller ID said Service Call as above. No message on machine. Reverse phone says Oakland Main Piedmont CA. Filing complaint with donotcall.gov and state do not call as always.

Two calls today, first call was early second call at 9:44 a.m.  Answered first time to blank air.  Waited a few seconds and heard a click.  Did not answer the second call.  Caller ID indicated "Service Call".  Assume it is a telemarketer.

Same caller ID, no answer, go figure.

Received call today.  Did not answer because I did not recognize the number.
Caller ID said Service Call.  Am on the do not call list.

Received several calls from this number - caller ID says Service Call - silence on the other end for about 3 or 4 hellos.  Then the other end comes on and a guy keeps saying hello as if he can't hear me.  Maybe he's pretending because he knows I'm going to rip him and all of his ancestors for being irredeemable pieces of garbage, and probably also suggest that he get a respectable job, like crack w***e or used car salesman.  Then he hangs up.  And the calls come in about every day or every other day.  Same story.  No messages ever left on voicemail, just silence.  No idea who this is, but they are in for a vile, unwholesome talking to if I ever do get a human on the other end.

Got a call from this number at 1:12 mountain time ... I said 'hello' a couple of times, nothing for about 30 seconds and then the line went dead.
