people did some work on my cpu and nthey kept calling all hours. I told them I was not satisfied with their work and wanted a refund.they said ok but we cannot give it to you directly-we have to use western union and when I said no they switched to paypal but that my refund of 500 dollars counl noft be made as paypal only handled 1000 at a time and they would give that to me and then I would need to give them a charge for 500. I hopenwe fionally got rid of them.  they claim they are from windows refund dept a,d another one said he was from the federal trade commission trying to catch the guys making false claims

I've been getting these calls.  No number on ID, he gave a call back no. 323-250-0569.  Said he was in California.  His name was John.  They have called multiple times.  Foolishly, one time I did respond and got as far as pulling up Western Union.  I wouldn't give them my password.   Finally realizing that it seemed like a scam.  I had not heard about this scam going around.  Said his company was Windows Refund Department.  Indian accent.

I HAVE BEEN GETTING CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER PERIODICALLY FOR ABOUT 3 OR 4 MONTHS. THEY TELL ME THAT MICROSOFT NEEDS TO REFUND ME ABOUT $400 DOLLARS BUT I HAVE TO FILL OUT A FORM THAT CAN'T BE E-MAILED AND THAT THEY CAN'T JUST SEND ME A CHECK. ONE TIME THEY EVEN TOLD ME THAT THEY NEEDED A BANK ACCOUNT # SO THEY COULD SEND IT VIA WESTERN UNION.

I just got a call from the same number 510-943-3040 telling me I had a free grant that I could pick up at Walmart. Told him I was not interested and he got angry on the phone and hung up..Scary stuff going to have my cell phone number changed as he has called over and over in the last week.

I got a call from this number - asked for Wayne, told them they had a wrong number - then they asked my name, said they didn't need to know by name, but take number off their list or application or whatever.  Tired of getting phone calls!  Don't know the company name since they don't identify themselves!

Someone from 510-943-3040 calls my residence phone everyday. They leave no message. Odd.

My wife got a call from this number about a week ago. Heavy Indian accent said he was from Microsoft and they had detected our computer throwing off bad files. Being a former IT person, my wife had a bit of fun with the guy before he hung up on her. Called  me today with the same spiel. I told him I was really curious as to how Microsoft was able to notice all the files coming off my Linux machine and where could I get that program? He hung up. Pretty clearly a phishing expedition.

Got a call from this number. I was half asleep and I answered in spite of it being from a number I didn't recognize. The caller said that he was affiliated with HP and that my computer was sending out strange signals (I don't remember his wording exactly). I told him that I didn't have an HP computer, and then he immediately hung up. Seemed suspicious.

Got a call from this number last night and said they were doing a short survey and asked if anyone in the house smoked, then asked if anyone had allergies, then asked if we had pets and asked if I was the lady of the house then asked if I owned the house and when I told him I have been renting for 21 years he hung up on me!  Sometimes I think it's just easier to pick up and slam the phone down or blow a whistle.  I have had the computer scammers call me twice don't know what number they called from but both times I busted them on their scam and they hung up on me!

I got a call from this scam group tonight just two days after Hurricane Sandy. I have a Digitone call blocker to block all calls like these so I never get them, but today the power is out and naturally the Digitone doesn't do it's job without electricity. This guy in a heavy Indian type accent tries to tell me that my computer is giving him error messages and that I need to get to it immediately. I tell him that that's not possible since I am in the middle of a power outage and for obvious reasons it's not on. Then the story changes, oh! that's from last week. At that point I hung up. Now I'm kicking myself I should have played games with him on this one. By the way my power came back on three hours ago after being off two days, and my computer is fine.

This scam is now supposedly from the Microsoft Windows Refund Dept.  These are people from India posing as employees of Microsoft.   The original scam was to "fix" your computer, which involved getting into your computer and get your information.   I think this part of the scam has been discovered and phase two is the call to "refund" your money, again needing to get into your email to send you a refund form for you to complete online.  This, of course, gives them access to your computer.    We have had no less than 30 calls from these people and even with our rude response to quit calling, they continue.  They may ask for someone in your household and if not available, will ask when they can return the call.   This is a total scam.  I would like to know if there is any place to report this that will actually DO something to investigate.  From comments I've seen, this is on an international level and the scam is being conducted on all continents.   I personally will never do any business with anyone with an Indian accent.  India is having many scandals in the government, banking, as well as this type of business.

They called me an fixed my laptop. They do work with Microsoft. Microsoft can get your # and your associates phone #. They helped me over a month ago. Why dose everyone think it's a scam. Ever person that posted that it was a scam, was never scamed by them. For some reason they all say they know it's a scam cause they called me, "an how do they know my #". By the way if they want to get in your computer they will; they don't need to ask you. Hell I don't know much about computers but I can get into most systems an look at you threw your camra. Even if its erased, all you history  on your system is stored on a public marketing database. If you put an info in your computer they can see it. Microsoft uses this database. Computer hackers don't call you and ask if they can go threw your computer.

A guy with a very thick accent called me today and told me that he was from windows and my computer was sending out error e-mails.  That my computer was had a virus and it was destroying my mother board.  He told me that I needed to turn on my computer so he could fix it for me.  I heard a lot of voices in the back round like you do when you talk to a telemarketer.  I told him I think this is a scam and if it was that important then mail the info to me, since you have my phone # you have to have my address.  He hung up.

They called me at 7am eastern time and again at 2pm on 10/12 with the same Bull as the other callers before me received. Advise, don't stay on the phone long with this jerk as he may be trying to do something with your phone numbers.

Same thing. Caller was passed off to our son who's a computer whiz. The guy was all messed up when he couldn't identify which computer, what IP address, what was the error code, etc. Son hung up on him as he was wasting his valuable time.  Maybe they should try working for a living....idiots!!

I got a call from this same number, he said it was regarding my computer witch I dont have, I told him I dont have one, then he asked my age, I said I was 23 and he said he was 26, and asked my if I will like to have sex, I told him off and I hanged up.
He called for 2nd time, I told him I will call the police to report him cause I have his number then I hang up  again, since then he never call back.
What an idiot!!!!!!

I have to hand it to these guys, they are relentless. Every week, and sometimes every day. they just don't take the hint. Waste their time, you my like the idea that you can lead them down the path while in fact they are wasting their time. These guys are lying cheats. I challenge the network of IT professionals to disable their computers with every known and unknown deterent virus there is out there. I wonder how many millions of dollars in free phone calls they get away with. If you asked me, I'd say the phone companies should be watch their own backs for phone lines and numbers which are obviously corrupted.

The guy said his name is Mike and he said he was calling from Los Angeles.

They called and stated that they were from Emerson College and that they were a college locator service for people interested in online education.
