Apparently it is a service used by newspapers, as I receive calls from this number for The Calgary Herald.

This number has called at least twice a day for the past week, once as late as 8:30.  No message.  Very annoying.  I know it's a telemarketer.

Called 2 times over the past 2 or 3 days but did NOT leave a message.

Got call from this number repeatedly weekdays and weekends. Day time and evening time. It shows up as ATT Messaging. I twice left message (second time angrily) and my number clearly to please not call me again. They just keep calling. Not sure how I can stop it.

I got a call from them today trying to sell a newspaper subscription, despite asking to be removed from the list. FTC should investigate SJ Mercury News.

This number calls without reason, and doesn't even answer

This is the San Jose Mercury News. I have attempted to get on their No Call List, but they still call me. When I pick up the phone, no one is there. What a terrible business practice. I would never subscribe to this paper again.

Get calls on my cell from this number.  I use the Mr. Number app and added it so its automatically blocked from coming through.  So let the roboidiot keep dialing.  It won't be bothering me and its just a waste of their time and resources.  Download a call blocking app like Mr. Number or one of the other free apps available if you get calls on your cell and bingo...problem solved!!!  I did add my number to the DNC list but we all know....that doesn't always solve things.

This number keeps calling my cell phone and when I pick up there is no one there. There is no caller ID and I have left messages on their do not call list but now they are not only calling me but have started calling my husband. What is the point of calling if there is no one there?

They called me everyday for the past whole week, sometimes 2~3 times a day. I never answer.
Twice today as well.

Usually I don't answer my call if I don't know the #, unless they left me a message.

BUT I cannot stand any more, so I have answered once just couple days ago, before they say anything, I said "please DO NOT call this # any more" and hang up, and after that... guess what.... they still calling everyday. WTF....

Already registered do not call list, NOT work. maybe I subscript from them once before, so they have my # in their system. In my opinion, only way you can do is save this # in your phone, when it rings, just hang up right away.

Alright folks, here's the deal: This number is from San Jose Mercury News.

You can do 2 things:
1. Go to the https://www.donotcall.gov/ website and add your number. Wait 30 days. If you again get this number, go to the website and place a complaint. Whoever owns that %^&*^&*% number will get a $500 fine on their a**.

2. Send a mail to
subscriberservices@mercurynews.com and ask them to put your number on their Do Not Call List. They will respond like they did for me.

If eventually 100s of people report that &^^%%&^&* number, they will fire the caller's a**.

I receive at least 3 calls a day from this number. No one ever answers when I pick up the phone

I get calls from this # constantly. When I answer, they hang up when I say "hello". They never talk or leave a message. So I try to ignore it if I see the Caller ID #.  What good would it do to call them back when they don't have the courtesy to talk when I answer the phone?

Missed call, no voicemail.

Called and pretended to leave message 4 times everyday but none was left.

You have to be pretty useless in life to have a job like this cold calling and disturbing people all day.  To even apply for this job you have to be a pretty inconsiderate type of person and it probably shows in other aspects of your life.  Here's a life tip:  Get a job where you actually help/serve people, your karma might last you a bit longer.
James, your an idiot as well.  Get a real job.  Why don't you leave an email or contact number where everyone can contact YOU on a daily basis?  Mercury news is the worst anyways.  I had problems not getting my sunday paper and that's the only subscription I had was the sunday paper! one newspaper delivery once a week and they even screwed that up!  Then they kept charging me even after I cancelled!

Called me today and yesterday.  Left no message.  Tried to call them back, but "mailbox is full."

Dear James from SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS;

Please stop making this our problem. There is a disconnect in your system where your robodialer is dialing and then hanging up. Bring this issue to upper management and either fix your telemarketing system or go to another vendor who can provide the service you need.

Former subscribers are no longer subscribing for a reason: i.e
1) lack of copy editing, 2) poor journalism, 3) crappy sale ads, 4) readers prefer digital over recycling
and the energy required to get these hulking masses of paper to their front door 5) or in the case of myself and others....we've MOVED!

NO ONE answers on the other side when we pick up the phone to talk.


I for one am going to report this number to any authority that I can think or find who will take a corrective action against it.

This number calls continuously and non one answers on the other side. caller ID shows call from Berkley, CA.

July 12 - Received call from this number at 10:30AM.  No one is there.
Perhaps, the caller/or telemarketing company needs to consider proper sales strategies in
approaching people that would get good results rather than, annoying us. Just saying!

I used to live in the bay area and I moved about 5 years back. They said I signed up for the paper. I don't even live in California anymore! I told them I never signed up and they never gave me an address of where this paper was going to be delivered.... SCAMMERS.

I've tried 3 times now to get off the list (I left my number very clearly on your voicemail).  Apparently, either you're not serious about your offer to take people off your list or you're not able to do so.
