Just got a call from this number. I said hello, twice, and heard the person on the other end physically move to hang it up.
Seeing some of the others here, I have to ask if the State of Texas makes crank calls?

Missed a call from this number today. They didn't leave a message, but when I call back it says that I need to dial a 1 or 0 before the area code. Tried that and got a number disconnected message.

The guy who left a message said he was from the TX Rail Road Commission calling in response to correspondence (from the Governors office) he received on my behalf. Won't go into details but it was a ligit call.

FYI -- this is just an automated PBX switchboard for the State of Texas. Whenever several of the state agencies linked to it call out, this is routing their call to an "outside" line for the call to connect to you. It only routes them out, so when you try to call this trunk number back -- you get an invalid number as it does not connect to any one state office.

No worries, this number is also used by the Texas Crime Victims Compensation Fund at the Attorney General's office in Austin, Texas. Hence, the 512 area code. It must be 'trunked' with multiple agencies there, employees, faxes, etc. I received a call from them but it was frustrating to try to find out who it was since when you call the number back, it says it's been disconnected.
So, unfortunately it seems that one can never really know which Austin government agency is calling you, since the number is used in such a broad fashion.
Irritating, but legal.

I answered the phone call on my cell phone. I stayed on for a couple of seconds, NO RESPONSE. I called back from a standard phone and the ph# is "disconnected"
| Marcus 2011-06-06 20:50:21 Unknown |
This was a call from the State of Texas Department of Insurance. They left a message to call on their main line which is listed. THis number must be from a private trunked government phone lines system. It gets used by several companies etc, as it is an exchange where random #'s are drawn from, if that makes any sense. When you dial it, most cases it will come up with a recording stating it is disconnected.
Hope this helps.

Me and my girlfriend have received calls from this number from the Texas State Comptroller, School Board of Education (SBEC), and Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychology. It seems that this number is used by several agencies.

This number should be the Texas State Comptroller's Office. It was made in response
to an email question I had previously sent them.

I also keep getting calls from 512-427-9057 and for some reason the phone number looks familiar as I also live in the 512 area. When I call back, same response: Phone number no longer in service. What gives? Very, very frustrating.

called at 7 am in the morning. Couldn't understand the lady on the other line. Then she said she had to call me back and I told her don't bother calling back because it was 7 in the morning. I think she had already hung up.
