It's a telemarketing company whose callers will be asking about any number of things - newspapers, banks, carpet cleaning, alarm system, etc. They call me every day even though no one is ever home. They don't seem to understand that people who work during the day work EVERY day? They haven't had the wherewithal to call me at 9:20 (unlike poor Nat) but if they ever did I would definitely unleash the beast.

I got 4 phones calls from them yesterday. I'm a housewife and I'm home all the time and it drives me up the wall. The first three times, I answered but there was no one. The fourth time they called, I looked at the clock and it was 9:20 PM. I had a fit with them and scared the poor telemarkting agent. It's not from the Gazette, rather it's a bank.

If there is no name I never answer, leaving my answering machine to get their name, which they never leave.
If it is indeed a newspaper, ask them if they publish an edition in Braille. In the unlikely event that they do, ask the rate.  
This is virtually a guaranteed discussion ending gambit.

J'ai reçu un appel ce matin et j'ai répondu pour avoir le coeur net. Il s'agit d'un appel de télémarketing : ce n'est pas le journal "the Gazette", cependant - on appelait pour me proposer la carte de crédit MNBA (ou quelque chose d'approchant).

Je travaille pour un CLSC, je donne des soins à domicile aux personnes agées... plusieurs de me clients recoivent des appels de ce genre du meme numéro, et à chaque semaine, ils ont "supposément" gagné un concours.... je leur dit de ne pas répondre ou de raccrocher...c'est grave.

Same thing here.....as I'm writing this,they are calling again!
But, with caller ID, I know that its not someone I know, and don't answer.
Thats the rule here.... if there are no ID; no one is allowed to answer the phone.
I also noticed that the government has a privateID, which mean we don't see any number appear.....and we are paying for that!?!?!?!

It's from the Montreal Gazette.  Their telemarketing department is relentless.  Simply telling them "NO" will not stop the calls from coming, nor will screening the call help you.  My solution was simple:  Answer the call, but then leave the phone on the counter for 5 minutes or so.  Since they see fit to waste my time, I return the favor.  Another solution would be to act like the biggest moron of all time while they're giving you details about their services.  Keep asking them to repeat themselves and give you more information and then say "But I don't understand...".  You'll drive them up the wall!
