I just tested *67 from my home phone which is with Primus. I called my cell and the caller ID came up with this number.

I just got a call today from my of my clients in Toronto, and it show this 514-904-4557 as a caller ID. So it would make sense that this would be a caller ID specific to a long distance carrier. Last post said Primus so it may very well be true.

This number has called a specific extention at the hospital department where I work today, and when I answered on both occasions the ''caller'' puts me on hold with the ''please be patient, your call is important to us'' type of music. The extention they've called is used by the hospital emoployees to call inside or outside the hospital, work related or not, and it's the extension we give out when we want to be contacted by family, appointments, etc. I can easily imagine how they got their hands on this extension...

Le mélange de l'urgence, de l'accident a l'étranger et du besoin d'argent très vite est une bonne indication de la présence d'une crosse.

for english peoples, this is a general outbound number use by primus canada, not neccessarely for long distance, when i use *67 before the number where i want a call with my primus line, this is exactly what appear on the phone i'm calling  514-904-4557.


Primus have more than 100 000 phone custommers,, so may be out of theses 100 000, there is few idiots try to use this as a fraud tool.

I got a phone call from this number around 12:45 p.m. today.  The caller said he was my grandson calling from Spain, had just had a car accident and needed help in the form of money......
I hung up on him as I suspected fraud but the problem is I do have a grandson studying presently in Europe so there was a plausability that it was genuine, but not enough for me to send money.  I finally hung up on him and had my daughter, his mother, check up on him on the off chance that he was injured.  It turns out he is fine and still studying where he is supposed to be.
I have a heart condition and the whole episode gave me angina for quite a while.  Those people should occupy their time in a constructive way and stop trying to scam people like that.  It is despicable.  I have had the proper authorities look into the matter.

just to report i got a call from 514.904.4557 today at 8:12 am, no message,

I called the phone company and they told me that it is a 3rd party long distance provider. I flagged the number with my phone company. What they do is that when you call back and go through the dial tone, you are being charged long distance calls that you have not made. Should you receive a similar call, flag the number right away with your phone company.

got two call attemps last night at 1h30 and 1h45, then again today during lunch. WTF!

Just call 1-888-323-3651 and ask to have your phone number taken off the list it works I just did!

I personally have this number for outgoing calls.  It's a common number for Primus VOIP customers who do not have Outgoing CallerID set.  No one person has this number, it's shared among the customers.  The caller can be either residential or business.  This is not a harmful number.

Someone from my family recieved a phone call from that number. Story: Grandson in Madrid  Spain had a car accident.needs money 2,300$ to be transfered ASAP via western trade union.
1)What concerns me is that the caller knew personnal life details ...
2) What can be done? Where and to whom do you report that fraud attempt?

recu un appel du 514-904-4557, un homme parlant francais avec un accent arabe et me dit: oui vous m'avez appeler hier à 19h30 au 747-8442. Jai dit non vous vous etes trompés de numero et il a dit ok. Cest bizarre que le numero sur l'afficher n'était pas celui qu'il m'a nommé.

Spam just a fax tone. They are persistent!

I don't have a fax machine, and I don't appreciate being "sent" a fax at 6:21 am. This company should be closed down.

A relative of mine who lives in Austria called me and this number (514-904-4557) showed up on my call display. He is using a 3rd party local phone company (not Telekom Austria, which is comparable to Bell Canada - former crown corp. as well). It seems that his phone company is dealing with Primus, from what I am reading here, in order to carry the incoming long distance calls in the Montreal area. It's probably cheaper than going through Bell Canada's network.

I guess what's really wrong with this situation, is that the same number appears on the recipient's call display, regardless of the who is calling and from where. It would be better if the display showed "unkown number" or "anonymous" rather than the same phone number all the time. At least we wouldn't have all of this confusion.

Hey Primus! Can't you people figure out a way to capture the original caller's phone number and transfer it into the caller ID system? This certainly should not be a problem for calls originating in Canada or the USA. I get long distance calls from other people in Europe and the numbers often show on my call display.
