Apx 2 hours after placing an ad on Craig's list (in BC, Canada) I received a text saying "is it available". I text very little but since the return phone # began with our local phone prefix, I simply texted back "yes". However, I began to get an uneasy feeling so I went to do a reverse search on the # & much to my chagrin, it was the area code which at first glance I thought was our local prefix...
I immediately called my phone company & they told me what my only options were:
1>block international text #s (included the USA) 2>drop text msg service 3>change my phone #
I said I'd wait & see what happened.
Sure enough, about 3 hours later I received a 3 part SCAM email telling me to text my personal info and they would send me a check blah blah blah...
Bottom line: NEVER put your cell # on Craig's List - it's just a convenient source for phishing scams
