They keep calling my cell phone and will not leave message. I don't answer calls if I don't know the number. I just got this cell number recently so I don't know who they are looking for.

I've had numerous calls from this number. If they ever finally leave a message, I'll return the call if for no other reason than to see what they have to say. But I guess it can't be too important or they'd leave a message. Right?

Debt Collector
This showed up on caller ID yesterday. We don't owe anyone any money. If they're looking for anyone it could be my 28 YO step son who's let some very old debts ride until they drop off at 7 years, but either way that's his personal issue not ours & he doesn't live with us. I'll call them & let them know that & hope they won't continue to call here.

If you owe them money all you have to do is make satisfactory arrangements for repayment and keep them advised if you have future problems, they will usually work with you and once you do it, there will be no more calls from them. NOTE: I am one who has been dealing with the Frye Law Firm on a bill for medical expenses and as long as we communicate and make arrangements they will not call you at all. For the record, I am not an employee of any collection firm.

I received a call from this number, it belongs to the Frye Law Group. This was in regards to an account I had made arrangements for payments several months ago and unfortunately I got behind on payments as agreed. The lady who called was not pushy at all, on the contrary, once we established the communication and both sides were satisfied as to our identities, my account was discussed in a very civil manner with the end result being that I would be able to continue with my payments in the same manner as before, and no additional interest would be charged for overdue payments as well as future payments until my account was paid in full. I accepted their terms to my satisfaction, there was no rudeness or name calling. She gave me a confirmation number as well as her name and number to call in the event I had problems in the future. I am sorry but although I have been harassed by other callers, I have no problem or complaint against The Frye Law Group, they have acted very professionally and I must give them credit for it. Sorry if others have not been as lucky as I have on this issue. If the call is about a legitimate debt as in my case, then no one has any reason to complain unless the caller is rude or the call is for someone else. Good luck to you all.

First of all...report them to the Federal Trade Commission.  Not only is it illegal to call you before 8 in the morning, your time, but it is also illegal to call someone at their place of employment.

Collection Agencies are what they are.  You sound as if you work for one or you have plenty of dealings with them.  uhmmm.....LOL...  Its pretty hard to remain calm when you really are not the person they are looking for and they continue to call you as if you are lying.  Somehow these people got my cell phone number. At which I would never use with for a creditor.   I have explained I am not the person they are looking for.  They start asking well who are you.  As if I have to explain and give information about myself to them.  Oh yes collection agencies prey on those that are weak minded whether you owe or not.  I continue to get calls but I do not answer anymore, simply because I am not the person that owes the debt.  I guess they think they can scare me into paying someone elses debt.
And if you do OWE, take this advice....  There are some that re-date old debt, Dont pay them cause it wont come off your credit. It will still be a collection debt and that is no better.  Call the Credit Bureaus and let them know the debt 7 years has passed.  The Old debt will come off your credit.     Dont make any arrangements cause that re-dates.  The debt will be on your credit for 7 years, In this economy ride it out, the debt will fall off.  Oh yeah dont get upset with them.  If they take you to court, make sure you show up and give yourside.  Explain your financial situation to the judge.  Nobody can take what you dont have.  Hey its a bad economy.
FACT....Not to many people have the  "Good Credit" they once had.  Sure you pay with higher interest rates.
As with  "Correction's Tips" Dont lose it.  If you do talk to them.... Stay Calm and dont own anything.  Stay calm even when they act like jerks and they will act like jerks especailly when they figure out that you are not intimidated by them.  No need to be afraid or get upset.  This is a phone conversation.  No one can beat you up.

These people called my workplace for one of my coworkers and got rude, demanding, condescending and accusatory to me when I wouldn't answer his questions, he asked my name, I offered to take a message or he could callback and talk to the person who normally answers the phone and he just continued to rudely press me for information about our company then finally hung up when I kept using the broken record technique.

I had a personal loan with Capital One of $10,000. I paid the balance down to $3,400. When the bottom fell out of the economy in 2006, we fell behind on the payments. The debt was bought by JP Frye.
We have paid them consistently, but they continue to call every two weeks wanting to set up an auto-draft. DON'T DO IT! We are now down to only $700, and will be rid if these lecherous vultures soon!

They violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by obtaining my credit report without permissable consent. I turned them in to the Federal Trade Commission. You can fax them a letter stating that they are not to call your numbers, and they are only to communicate with you in writing. This is from the FTC. It is FEDERAL LAW. If you write to them, they cannot call you and harass you anymore.

Before you pay them anything check online about debt collectors and how to fight them. There's a lot of good info out there that can help you stop the calls at work and threats which are both violations of Fair Credit Reporting Act. Contact your State Attorney Generals office and file a complaint. In many states you can do this online.

If John P. Frye is harassing you, send a registered letter, restricted delivery to him:

John P. Frye 3351 Orange Avenue NE Roanoke, VA 24012-6335

If he has the wrong person, tell him. Tell him ONE MORE CALL and you sue him under the FDCPA. He knows that he would have to pay $1,000 per violation.

If it MIGHT be your debt, tell him provide debt validation under the FDCPA. If he does not respond at all or responds improperly, and he keeps contacting you, tell him you'll sue under the FDCPA.

If you are going to sue him, file a complaint against him with the Virginia Bar.

does this really work??  I received a letter for this collection and also talked to someone last night....they wanted me to give bank info. at 9 pm last night without discussing anything with my husband first.  I told the man that I needed to talk to my husband, ahe he said "what's to talk about?  We can make arrangements and you still have until 4 p.m. the next day to cancel the authorization the draft the account"  I read too many things about these people....like if you give them your bank routing and account number they make multiple drafts.....If my original creditor has "charged off" the account and they bought this account for pennies on the dollar - is there a way to find out exactly what they bought my account for??  I know I owe this debt, but have hit REALLY hard times and want to do what's right to get  this matter taken care of properly.

Zilch - I also legitimately owe a credit card this debt, they have no right to harrass someone and deal with them in a rude manner.

I myself am not sure on what my rights exactly are in this situation - but I do know that they have NO right to be calling my husband (whom they refuse to speak with other than to find out where I am) or my father-in-law just because they share the same last name.  What these people need to understand is that they can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar AND that they don't know the customers situation and why they can't pay.  One shouldn't assume because they aren't paying their debt that they are an irresponsible low-life.  I for one maintained my payments until a bad turn of events made it impossible.  Sorry but I must keep feeding/clothing/housing my daughter my number one priority even if it destroys my credit in the process.

Anyhow - I'm glad I have yet to answer one of their calls (I don't answer numbers I don't recognize) because I don't need some stranger making me feel like a loser.  Good luck everyone.  I hope you all find a way through this.

Seems like very few people succeed in suing or winning any legal actions toward John Frye firm.  I read lots of things people (or victims) intend to do, but never hear about victories or results that cause the people there to actually change their approach. My weakness is not really knowing "my rights".  Since I do owe money to the original credit card companies who sold the accounts to this firm I am less apt to "fight".  Figure that since I am the guilty party, these are all of the consequences of my choices. Kind of twisted thinking perhaps.

These people are pieces of garbage, the lowest form of human debris. I couldn't get to stop calling so I went on the offensive and started using the foulest language I could muster. I'd answer and say "....so what the F*ck do you want....." or "pretty Sh*tty job you got there as*hole, harassing people with no evidence..." After a week, the calls went away. They especially don't like the "C" word or the "N" word.

Never EVER cooperate with the pond scum from Law Office of John P. Frye. They are rude and threatening and, in a word, dishonest. My wife gave them consent to withdraw $152 from our checking account and was forced to block them from my account as they continue to withdraw without consent.
