I just got this call, too. They knew my social security number and place of work. Said if I didn't pay them or whatever (difficult to understand) they would send the Sheriff to my place of work and have me arrested. They even guaranteed I'd be behind bars for two months.

I reported it to the FTC but had no other information about them than the phone number, which they called me from 551-497-7497 and self-identified themselves as a law firm.

If anyone has any other additional information or can remember the name of the law firm they claim to work for, please let me know so I can add that information to my FTC complaint.

Another thing file a complaint with the FTC and contact the 3 credit bureaus and place a initial 90 day fraud alert on your credit file just to have peace of mine.

These people have called our business at least twice, asking for employees.  They are very difficult to understand because of the heavy accent.  When I called them back and told them to stop calling for my employees, the person (male) got very rude, and started cursing at me.  They said that they are attorneys from a firm in NJ.  There actually IS a firm with the name they gave me, in NJ.  My next step is to call them, and let them know what is going on.  These people must be really lonely.  Give them NOTHING!!

I am getting the same calls now too. This happened to me once before and I suggest you report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It was the only thing I could do to get it to stop. They started calling my job after a while and it borders on harassment. Either way, it is defiantly a scam, and what they are doing violates at least 20 FTC regulations. You should also call transunion, the credit bureau, to put an identity theft watch on your accounts because these people had a lot of my personal financial information, and they might have yours.

Also a Law suit and criminal charges are two different things. While you can sue someone who is being brought up on charges, you cant sue them to charge them in criminal court. They clearly didn't know what they were talking about.

I literally just got off the phone with these jokers. I was tired of getting calls from random numbers (this wasnt the first) from random parts of the U.S. Car loans, pay day loans, you name it I've been getting them, and I have been good about shutting them down to stop the calls. I pick up and I automatically know its a scam because the man had a foreign accent (possibly Indian). He said can I speak to ****** ******* (pronounced my name wrong and everything) so pissed off I just said it's me whats up? And he said he was going to connect me to an "officer". Another man answers the phone with a very generic American name representing a generic law firm (It sounded like he was struggling to mask his accent) and said he had an affidavit for my name and email address and my last four of my social and that I was involved in some kind of bank scam, or I voided some kinda contract with a payday loan company (which I never signed a contract because I never engaged in said loan) and that on several occasions they tried to collect and I have sent them voided checks. Then after that the man requested to read me the affidavit and I said sure go ahead. He read some "legal" sounding stuff. And said that he is going to send a copy to my employer and a copy to the NYPD for an arrest warrant. After that he asked if I had any questions. Of course I said yeah, I said what kind of case you expect to have when I can clearly show that I have not received any funds from your organization, I did not engage in any contractual agreement with your organization, not to mention I havent used  "checks" since 2005? And on top of that I never received anything in the mail from either the law firm or the organization which has claimed that I engaged in a contract, of which I have no documents proving that a contract was drawn up between our two parties. SO what case do you have? Do you really wanna take this to court? And the whole time mind you he was trying to cut me off with (sir, sir SIR!!) Then he mentioned that the affidavit was being "downloaded" and that they didnt have to send me a copy because they sent an email. Before I go on let me tell you who dont know, whenever you are engaged in some kind of legal anything, you have to be served your papers. By them not sending anything in the mail or having someone serve me papers saying that I am to appear in court for whatever, they already messed up, and you can only have a warrant for your arrest in a lawsuit "if" you duck out on your court date. So I was like "email? and how would you be so sure that I even got an email for a verification of this contract if I never entered a contract in the first place? And he said SIR! It is not my place to say but only to inform you, I am sending this to the police now and may God help you. I can actually sue them for that because you cant assume that the person in question believes in God. These scammers are getting more and more clever, but at the end of the day, they are still sloppy. Dont be afraid to question these fools! And always ask for a number you can reach whomever at, as well as a name and an address if necessary. If they are legit, you'll get all of this info, if not, then you already know what it is!

I got the same call. They were very rude and extremely threatening. I spoke to a guy name David. He sounded so real.  Unfortunately, I did send the money.  He got me so rattle that I believe him. I ask a friend to lend me the money. No matter what I'll pay her back. I really thought the call was real.  Can anything be done with these people.

I received 1 call last week and disregarded it because they were looking for "Linda".  However, today I received another call from "Adam Thomas" he left the same threatening message requiring a return phone call from either Linda or her attorney of record otherwise he wishes her good luck as the situation unfolds.   Thanks for starting the post.
