Just got the same call from this number, also an automated message, saying I'm involved in a civil suit in FL with a restraining order. I know for a fact they can't notify you of that by phone if it were legit. I suspect the people who say it is a collector fishing for info are right. I have no idea who it could be, but am not going to waste my time trying to find out. If any reputable company has an issue, they call, identify themselves and the company, and tell you the info they need to tell you (with an avenue to dispute if you think it is not correct). I was a collection agent for a period of time and think it is hilarious to see it from the other side. I walked out one day and never turned back when they ordered me to do some of the crap these a-holes do regularly now. Wonder if they think these tactics actually work...I guess if they get one in 100 to call them back, it's worth it to them. That's one of the advantages of this site. We can keep each other updated on the unscrupulous companies out there circumventing reasonable (and many times LEGAL) ways of contacting people.

Just received a call from these scumbag scammers... Said I took a payday loan and didn't repay it... blah blah blah. What a load of crap and a waste of my time calling them back. Sickens me that there are people out there that will try to get money from innocent people. Don't even waste your time calling them back. They are not legitimate at all.

I called the number back and was told that I was being investegated for fraud on a Master Card which I've never had. I was told I live at a FL address, which is wrong and was strongly threatened to pay over $1200.00.
Obviously I know this is a bunch of BS, but what if I was an older person who is easily scared. This is so wrong and I wish I could report this, but I don't know who to report this to.
Boy! There sure are alot of scumbags in this world trying to steal money from innocent people, this just angers me beyond words.

Received a recording from this number giving me a claim number for a lien.  I had no pen or paper available at the time to write down the claim number.  I called back and got a real person on the line to talk to.  I informed this person that I did not have time to write down the claim number so I was asked the phone number that I received the call on.  I said "First, tell me the name of your establishment and the type of services that you render!".  Immediately after that, they hung up.

Reporting to the phone company won't do any good. You need to contact your attorney general of your state. I also called the FTC about the one before this one. They go to different states and get phones numbers. I am not sure how they get your information. But they knew the make and model of the car I drive and my last 4 of my SS #. Its not a real business. They change phone numbers about once a month. Name changes every 6 months according to other posts I have seen. FTC told me that FBI was getting involved with stopping them. I am not sure if that is true. Just don't answer your phone.

Same auto message asking me to call back their number. I have just landed in US after a year of assignment outside so no way I would have any orders against me. I didnt even bother calling back. The last line that the automated message has was " Thank You and Good Luck" lol. That really gave them away. Not exactly legal language to leave things to luck

I just received a call from National Lien Processors, automated call gave me some case number and said I was being served with a restraining order? I don't live in Florida they have my ex married name? I don't understand this but think its related to phone calls I got from a place called Country Arbitrations a while back. They have had several phone numbers but are based out of New York. I have contacted our attorney general about them and the FCC. I am going to call them about this company also. The FCC said that the FBI was looking into the other ones.

I received a call from the same number (561-409-5490.  Basically I was named in civil law suit and there is a restraining order against me. I need to call or have my attorney call within 24-48 hours.   I knew it had to be a scam because I have received nothing from any courts.  Nor have I been served a restraining order.  They notify by mail not phone calls.  Thanks for your posts everyone!

I can just say ditto to the above .I called back several times and waited forever with no one answering just music playing.  At one point a guy answered and then immediately without warning the music went on again.  I decided to investigate who National Lien Processors from FL was and saw that numerous people have had the same problem.  This needs to stop!

Got a call at my home and on my cell. Same exact message as everyone else.  Goggled the number and realized it is a scam/fraud.  My son also looked it up and said to just ignore it.  Very scary though. Unsettling.  I feel sorry for people who don't know to look it up first and pay what they don't owe. There has to be a way to stop these people.

this company called my boyfriend's parents home; my mother's home (never on my phone) trying to track me down with the restraining order scam......How they tracked them down is beyond me, because I have never given out my information using them as a contact.   Furthermore, I am not in deficit with any lender nor do I have any issues with the law....I pray someone stops these idiots before things get out of hand!!

Similar to several other calls I've received from debt collectors trying to track down a relative who shares my last name. As others have noted, it is illegal for debt collectors to mis-represent themselves like this. I just reported the incident to the Florida Attorney General's complaint site:

I received a call from the same company as everyone else is referring to. Each time they have asked to speak to my mother, which I found very strange from the beginning. The 1st call was a month or 2 ago, which we straightened out. It was a case of mistaken identity. However, today they called my cell number again asking to speak to my mother. I called the number back, in which I explained to the person who answered the phone that I was her daughter, not my mother, but my number is the one you keep calling. I tried to inquire about how they retrieved my number, and the man on the phone turned very rude and disrespectfully! I was shocked, but I did not back down from that pig! I proceeded to try to get information in which he told me that I was harassing them, and to never call their company again! He then hung up on me, so I called right back. The same pig answered the phone; I was told that I was the one being disrespectful and that they need only to speak with my mother, then he hung up again.

I called back a third time, an was fortunate to speak with a polite gentleman. This time I pretended to be my mother. I had to verify my identity because they had been informed that "my daughter" had been calling harassing them. (HOW IRONIC) Any who..I straightened everything out. It was a case of mistaken identity again. The person they were looking for happened to have the same 1st and last name as my mom; however, I am still baffled because everything else including: the address, place of employment, middle name, and the last 4 digits of the social were COMPLETELY wrong! He assured me that my daughters name would be removed from the system.

I was told the same thing months ago, so his statement gave me NO assurance. If any one is being harassed it would be my mom and I. We are in the process of pursuing legal action after today.

Got the call from them today and when I called back, the case number they had left on the voice mail didn't match up to their records. When I gave them the phone number they called on, they went into how I owe a bank money. Unfortunatley, I did file Bankruptcy in the past 3 yrs and one the banks on the action was the one this guy was referring too. As soon as I mentioned the Bankruptcy, he got real defensive and told me to be prepared for court and my summons would be mailed to me. As I was in the middle of explaining how you are handed a summons and not mailed one nor would someone be given a restraining order from a such a matter, he again got defensive and asked if I was an expert on the legal system and then proceeded to hang up. I have received this same call from a group in Clevland, OH with the same bulls*** and when you call them you get, "voice mail box number ---- is full, try your call again later". Unfortunately, these folks know how vulnerable people are these days and really try to make a scam about it and knowing we can't fall back on our bills again, try and scare us. Don't be scared of these folks and when they call, report them to the FBI consumer fraud division and the BBB of the state they are calling from. It's pathetic but their out there. Good Luck!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I have been getting calls from these people for about two weeks. The last time I told them I needed their attorney(s) name and the law firm representing the "supposed" claim. I also needed the name of the company or person that filed the original claim, dates of the incident and a dollar amount in writing by certified or registered mail, within the 2 days that they gave me before I would be served with court papers. They tried to continually talk over me, but when I told them I needed the information to give to my lawyer for him to check out, suddenly the line went dead. I will be curious if they call me back again. Scam artists!!

Just received a call on my cell from these folks. They left a message similar to what others have posted: I have been named in a civil suit and a restraining order has been filed. Gave me a case # to give to my attorney. Don't know who they are but I have no debts so I know this is total crap. I also know that if I was named in a lawsuit, I would be served at my home and often it is via mail now for civil suits. I would not get a phone call from someone in Florida when I live 1000 miles away from there. Will report them to the state atty general. Don't know what else to do.
