There has been a century-old scam called the "puff sheet racket" where business people are contacted by scammers representing a posh-sounding journal, who will feature an interview and article about them and/or their business, but they need to buy several issues of the magazine...which is poorly printed and not distributed as widely as the scammers claim.
This is basically the same scheme, substituting a TV show for the magazine.

Received a call June 2013 from a Katie Cummings identifying herselt as Director of Booking for the National Public television series "Impact." She state she was calling for her producer who was putting together a series "Faith in America" and she was scheduling telepone interviews with denominations that he might have an interest in featuring in the series. Call back number:
561-826-0742 ext.132, URL www.impact.ptv.com.
Sounded very professional and sincere but still did not ring true. We did not return the call.

I almost took a caller job with them that I found on Craigslist in Boca Raton! I'm glad I looked up the company first!!! How does someone report it to his agency that his name is being used without his permission, because, he can sue them I think. I know you can get that info if you have the paid imdb.com or even the trial version, but i don't know of any other way. i'll contact the BBB too. :/ (I meant to post this on this thread. woops)

Tom Brewer called wanting to do some advertising for our company. He took some information and was going to call back later after he researched us... I went to the website information he gave me, inpactptv.com and noticed that all the icons were false, the videos were not in line with the theme he had presented and the one with Colin Powell, just ended abruptly and had nothing to do with anything on the website. As I continued searching he called back and started talking about the charge for his service etc go to the site and in the lower left hand corner see the small icon INVITE click and type in the PublicTV and education ... I found this article and the deal was over ... thank you very much, because if you check out the site you will see it could have been convincing.
here is the email I received:
To recap our conversation, I?m currently in pre-production on a short-form documentary series distributed for my Public Television audience. I choose stories based on three criteria:
1) You must have a storyline that is educationally beneficial.
2) You must be able to outline a targeted audience for your educational message.
3) You must have both a desire and ability to educate the public television viewer.
If you meet these criteria, and we choose your story, there are three requirements:
1) You will be available for a one-day, structured, onsite location shoot.
2) You have allocated the cost for participation, which is the $23,400 pre-production fee.
3) You can adhere to the Production Cycle for the project.
I?ll be currently reviewing your story, as well as the collateral materials you agreed to overnight to me. Be sure to send those out immediately.
Attached are three important documents: 1) The Script Blueprint (your first main input into the storyline, due two weeks after we schedule the story), 2) The Project Overview (a one page snapshot of the project), and 3) The Production Cycle (which outlines what will take place over the next 60-90 days).
To see video examples of our series online follow this LINK. You can click on industry specific content, located on tabs located on the right side of the site?s home page streaming Public Television segments, Corporate Documentaries and Educational Commercials.
To view the online brochure, and some other samples of the project, click HERE. You?ll need to enter a user name and password, both using only lower case letters.
User = publictv
Password = education
Once inside, you?ll find the Participant Invitation (an electronic brochure) in the upper right hand corner which is a fully interactive, magazine style invitation.
I will be contacting you on or before the date and time we agreed on to schedule the program.
Best Regards,
Tom Brewer

Received a call from "John Church" and wanted $27K to produce a 5 minute segment directed toward our drug prevention programs. Said he represented Martin Sheen's Breakthroughs. Promised a million emails (will end up in spam filters, if in fact it was to be sent, which it would not be). Said it would appear after Masterpiece Theatre. Never saw one of those productions after Downton Abbey. Wish I would have told him my name was John Synogogue or John Mosque.

Latest name in this same tired scam is Public Television Distributors, Inc. And their newest face is Martin Sheen. They are calling the show In Focus, but it is the same old song and dance, you pay big bucks for no guarantee of anything ever airing.
Additionally, they have purchased a staggering number of domain names, started a Facebook and a Google +, and even made themselves a Wikipedia entry in an effort to appear legitimate, but be assured, In Focus with Martin Sheen is a SCAM. Repeat, InFocus with Martin Sheen is a scam! Not a report on a scam, an ACTUAL scam. Do not give money to Public Television Distributors, Inc and their show, they guarantee you nothing as return on a more than $20,000 investment.
The phone number is now 772-828-0238.

I received a call today from Tom Baker claiming to be with In Focus with Martin Sheen. Same scam, terrifying dollar amount. The number given was 772-828-0238 ext 212. Same video footage mentioned, claimed to have ties to PBS' Antiques Roadshow.

This scam has reinvented itself again under the guise of "In Focus with Martin Sheen". Still operating out of Boca Roton. Caller said she was Lori Gold, executive producer for Martin Sheen. Same video footage about cotton as Loren Rogers above mentioned. Note the "glow worm" toy which shows the outdated nature of this B roll footage. The address they provided was from a virtual office called "Davinci Office Solutions, located in a Boca Roton strip mall - 5550 Glades Rd., Suite 500 Boca Raton, FL 33431

Fake show. No affiliation with Joan Lunden. Now the incoming call number is masked, but you're asked to call back to 561-353-9083.

We just got the call as well. Same thing: we received an unsolicited call from Randy Star, assistant to Cameron Johnson of American Milestones. Some details: $19,900 free, need to decide in two days, reference to Joan Lunden, tens of millions of viewers promised. We looked at some of their clips: the one on cotton, for example, had nothing but good to say about cotton and featured four speakers, two of whom work for Cotton Inc (though they were not identified as such), and one of whom owns a cotton farm.

We received a call from Cameron Johnson, claiming stations were looking for content on military families and so they were reaching out to us. He got upper management all psyched up about it, and we would have been none the wiser if someone hadn't noticed the bill came from "Cornerstone Media, LLC, (possibly their next incarnation?) whereas the questionnaire said American Milestones, LLC, and ran a search to double-check. That's where we found the Joan Lunden post and this thread. Of course, something like this would land in my lap my first week back to work after an extended medical leave. I'm trying not to beat myself up over it, too much, but at least we didn't get any further down the path than we did. I guess I don't have my A-Game back yet. So glad to have found this thread and all of you, though!

Do not revieve phone calls from this guy. He gives contradicotry information to different people in our organization. Says he is associated with Joan Lundun, but flip flops on PBS and Frontline. All reports say it is a scam. We will not recieve any further calls from this source.
