First of all if you have any old bill or anything like that every state has a statute of limitations for credit and bill collection new york is 7 years. Wich means by law they can not take any leagal action to collect there money. The only thing they can do is keep calling or ask you for it and hope you give it by your own free will.after the statute of limitations is up they can not get a judgment or garnish a darn thing but they will say they can to trick you into paying because they get a commision on what ever they get you to pay.they will try anything from being nice or rude reverse pyscology, belittle you so you will prove by paying your not a bum, its all a show because at the end of the day they dant do crap they live off making money of your debt but by law you dont have to pay and they cant collect only if you willingly give it to them, and dont worry about your credit because after time passes things come off your credit report too debt collectors like to put ob a show do not i repeat do not give them any info what so ever they have no rite to it.the statute of limitations starts from the date of your fist late payment to 7years in new york thats when the 7 years starts just google your states stute of limmitations

A recorded message was left on my phone for another relative that hasn't lived here for 15 years. When i returned the call, they said it was regarding an item returned from his bank and something about his Citibank card. They wanted the contact info for this relative and I refused. Since checking this out on the Internet, i know it's a scam. thanks to all who reported.

It is a big SCAM!!! got the same message & it was a recording.  When I intercepted the answering machine to speak to the person, the message continued to play.  When I called them back on the ph# 562-270-9010 got the disconnected signal and then an auto recorded message "This number was entered incorrectly or the number has been disconnected"  I did a reverse lookup which said this number was a landline in Long Beach CA.  I have received several messages on our answering machine from that ph#.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Same story as many above -- "Please call us to discuss an item that was returned by your bank," etc. This is a scam. Don't even bother to call them back.

Yea I'm getting the same calls/messages from these ppl at so called "ACI Legal." Looked it up online and didn't find anything regarding an ACI debt collecting agency. The recording I got said I had a returned item from my bank and that I needed to call. I knew it was a scam in the first place because all I have is a prepaid chase liquid card. I called the number and there was muffled hollering in the background from some ghetto sounding people then there was a noise like something brushed the speaker of the phone and then the chick finally said thanks for calling ACI Legal how can I help u. I hung up but now that I see all of these posts on here and know I'm not the only one u can bet I'll be calling back and giving them a piece of my mind. I get these stupid harrassing calls alllllll the time, like every week! I'm so sick of this bs and just wish it would stop but every week its something new....last week it was a supposed tax lean. REALLY?! Ugh!

this was at least the third time I have received a call from this number informing me that I have a returned item from my bank and that it would be in my best interest to return the call or have my representative return the call.  That is as far as I got since I disconnected at that point.  I have had the same personal bank account since late 1990s.  This phone is a cell phone which I have had for ten years or so, much less than the time since I opened the bank account.  I know there has never been a returned item from my personal bank account.  I have had other business or fiduciary accounts but am quite sure there has never been a returned item from one of them which is why I hung up.  I am sure it is a scam.

They keep leaving messages using a name that I have not used in over 20 years! Informing me that I had a returned item from my bank, yet I am using the same bank for the past 30+ years, I have no returned items. Sounds like a scam, the recorded voice never leaves a file number to be referrenced. Beware.

Rude people, claiming something had been returned from our bank, we have no debt, and know that this is all a scam.  They sound extremely ghetto accented.  No way to even take these people serious. They are scamming people

Got a phone call this morning. It was a voice recorded message something about a returned item as well. Claiming to ACI. Called them back, got a representative named 'Melissa' at first, attitude... Asked for my phone number but I refused to give it up and was hung up on. Called back again, got a different person, then proceeded to give them my phone  number and she told me it was for an age old debt that had been handled some years ago, over 10 years ago. She then threatened me with lawsuits, judgements, wage garnishment. I asked for something in writing. It was one of those 'attitude' types. Wouldn't let me speak. Threatening to contact my employer, I asked "who is my employer?" Where do I live? Would not give me a proper answer. It eventually escalated into a pissing contest. All I wanted was documentation to validate it was legit. Just kept on threatening me with law suits and traceable phone calls. They were gonna send the police and everything. My thoughts... 2 unemployed ghetto-fabulous women, with nothing better to do than harass folks who are trying to make an honest living. Losers. Hope they read this.
