I have been getting calls from this number since march. I turned them into the BBB and they told me there is nothing I can do. Just keep ignoring them, eventually they will go away. If you answer and tell them not to call anymore they just simply hang up on you. Pain in the a**.

Thanks to Lily for posting the link to DoNotCall.gov.  Oddly, I had not realized the registry had a .gov website where one could register.  I have received several gift-card-scam calls from different numbers, and on one occasion gotten actual information out of the caller (said his company name was Advance Silver, and that they were a promotional company).  Today's caller from 562-288-7147 evidently didn't want to speak to my answering machine. :)

I got a call from this number, saying that I would recieve a $200 gift card from Wal-mart with no obligation. Then the guy asked me to write down a confirmation number so I got a pen and paper and said go ahead. He said his name was Harry Brown and I laughed because he sounded Indian to me. Then he said why do you laugh and I said you don't sound like a Harry Brown, then he got all offended and said "what do i sound like" three or four times in a row then hung up. He had my address already but no other info was given..... What a freaking nut!

If I knew where they were, I would certainly hunt them down and kill them. I've been wondering if they are in an Indian run sai-mart close to me.  I may have to pay them a visit.  Vigilante

I don't know anyone in the 562 area so I ignored the call.   If they really needed to talk to me they could leave a message.
They did not leave a message.
When I called back, message did not identify caller but simply said
"Thank you for calling back, if you are not interested in our promotions press 1 to be put on our do not call list please press 1

Yes. This is a scam call. This time I got the company name Pante or Dante Affinion. They usually tell you the last 4 digits of your credit card and the expiry date. Don't be fooled by that. Unfortunately it is very cheap for a sick American company to hire a bunch of beggars in India to call american customers. Beggars too can learn/speak English in India. They can get short easily :)). All those callers get is money to buy that nights bread... feel sad for them. So its not India's fault.

Try to find out the sick b*****d running the show from here and then you know what to do. Talk nicely with them...and you can get lucky to get their exact location, company details etc.

I get calls from 562-288-7147 from 8am to 10:30 pm (Central time) up to 10 times a day. What they want is an audio confirmation that you have authorized them to charge your credit card. It may just sound like you are agreeing to receive free whatever coupons (she actually accused me of not liking free gas!) but as soon as you confirm that you are the person they have on file and that your credit card and address are correct you've actually just agreed to let them charge your card.
Register with https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx and after 31 days you can report them using the telephone number (without knowing the company name). This isn't the most gratifying answer because you have to wait and then the company will just pop up again with a new name and number after they get caught.
If you want to be one of the many Americans who are figuring out they can make a profit from suing these companies, get the company name when they call and record every time they call (even the missed calls). Talk to a lawyer about a suit for harassment. Maybe if enough people start suing we can make a statement that this scam is not how they should do business.

I kept getting calls from them about 3 times a day. What finally worked was when I told the guy on the other end that I was recording this call to ensure I got all the information correct. Before I could finsh he had hung up and I have not gotten another call since. Seems they don't like being recorded.

Just got a call from this # 562-288-7147.  the india sounding guy got real short with me when I started asking him questions.  he hung up on me after saying that I needed to stop asking him so many questions.  I would like to find out a little more about this company.  He gave the $200 giftcard pitch.

these guys also call me 8 or 9 times in a day.  they are all from India and this is a new number.  the last one had a 714 area code, but same offer.  they won't tell you the company name or any information about who the company is.  if you press too hard, they get agressive.  obviously, this is a scam, but how to get them to stop calling?  now i just ignor the call, but when i do that, they call back within 15 minutes.

your post is also useless babble for the sake of trying to argue and make yourself look intelligent. You failed.

If you were unable to get the "valuable" information you listed, what makes you certain that Jen could have? How do you know she didn't.

This is possibly a scam, because of the refusal to provide useful information about the company. The law requires:
1) Actual name of the agent (Though it is allowable to use an alias, it must be the same alias for the same agent, all the time.)
2) Name of the company
3) Call-back phone number and/or the address of the company.

Many times, I have gotten this information, then called the number or looked up the address and found one or the other to be bogus. Other times, I use another phone and call the number they give me. Turns out to be legitimate.

Even if they are in another country, their calls must comply with U.S. law, and if they are calling on behalf of a U.S. company, that company is liable for any infractions -- $500 and up into your pocket, for every one of them.

Jen,
You obviously need to get past the LSAT and actually take a few years' worth of courses. Your rant is useless babble.

If you knew ANYTHING about telemarketing law, you'd not threaten with the Big Bad Business loving BBB, but you'd simply get credible -- usable -- information and file suit. Simple as that. You could pay for law school if you'd simply pay attention.

  What company?
  What was the offer?
What is their real phone number?

That's the kind of information, posted here, which would be useful.

I TRIED. I talked to the guy, but he almost imediately hung up. So, I have no such information. If you've been called so many times, it would be helpful to those of us who know a WHOLE LOT about telemarketing law -- and who have successfully sued many telemarketers -- if you had bothered to get any kind of actual information about the company, its location, what they're peddling, etc., and so on.

Got a call from an middle eastern man named "mike smith" - yeah right. Any case, he said I was eligible for a $200 gas card and a $200 walmart gift card. All I had to do was pay the $4 shipping charge with the credit card he had on file. he did have the correct exp date and the last 4 digits. He just needed the other numbers to authoriZe the shipping charge. After I was weary about giving him the card info he proceeded to read the first 4 digits to verify he had the whole number but had to athoriZe the charge. After 12 minutes I asked him what his real name was and he got upset. This company is called home protection discover. I tried lookjn them up while I was on the phone but morhig too much came up. After 15 minutes he got frustrated for me wasting his time and I ended the call. Just remember if it is too good to be true it usually is.

This number calls me from 7:50am to 9:10 pm every single day. They call my cell phone, so I can see even the missed calls. One day they called 9 times, the next 11, and so on. I told at least 9 different operators to stop calling me. Then I called back and used the automated "remove me from the list" option, and within the hour a MANAGER called me! Even after I flipped and said if I received one more call I was calling the Better Business Bureau and the police to report them, he attempted his pitch to give me $200 in free something and I had no obligation blah blah blah. I cut him off and said if he didn't remove me he was going to be sued (I am in law school and know a little something about the law). The number called me 3 more times that night after this! I am reporting them on Monday, and beware: this is absolutely a scam. I never let them get far enough to say that I had to give them a credit card number but that's definitely a red flag. The operators who contacted me also sounded as though they were from India. Oh, and I don't remember the number, but another company called me saying that I won some amount of money from using a debit or credit card at WalMart, and all I had to do was confirm the credit card information. Obviously, I said they were crazy if they thought I was giving them any information, and if WalMart had in fact given them ANY of that sort of information, I was going to report them. Just a warning for you all to be cautious
