I've gotten two of these calls recently.  I chatted with the idiot the first time..most definitely a scam.  I finally told him to bug off and hung up on him...dummies!!  I did discover that apparently some law enforcement agency is trying to hunt these people down.  HA!!  Good luck with that.  Just a word of warning, these people can, and probably will, steal your personal info.  NEVER, EVER give anyone you don't know and trust access to your computer via the internet.  Microsoft would never call you, and if they did they would NOT expect you to just turn over the info within your computer to them because they asked.
Scam, scam, scam..as for the DNC list.  I have to wonder if they aren't selling phone numbers, LOL.  Seems like I've gotten more and more of these calls since we've been on it.
Be careful folks...it's scary out there!

You really let them into  your computer????  better check all your accounts and that your identity wasn't stolen.
they probably are continuing to be logged into your system without you knowing it.
Microsoft would NEVER call.

Be aware!!

I just received a call from this number.  The man was difficult to understand, but said my computer was sending error messages.  He wanted me to pay over the phone to have it fixed.  It appears they were trying to obtain my credit card information.  When I told him I needed to call back, he said there is no number to call back.  I've researched, and it appears this is definitely a phishing scam.

I have gotten several calls pertaining to Microsoftt viruses from these type callers.  I wish someone would prosecute them.
I am on the do not call list and retired. These calls are most annoying.

Received a call from this number, I asked the company name and he just told me he was an authorized Microsoft engineer.  I persisted to get the company name, said he was calling from New York.... He hung up on me when I asked what company employed him.  I don't use microsoft and it was an obvious scam.  They tried this on my mother too.  Needs to stop.

I am a computer repair business owner, so to answer your question:
No he doesn't have access to your computer unless he hacked Teamviewer. I use that program to help my friends all the time.

To be on the safe side I would reboot your computer and uninstall Teamviewer.

Change your passwords immediately.

Some notes;
Microsoft would never call you about a computer problem. It's a scam.
NEVER give out any personal information or access to your computer unless you know and absolutely trust the person you are dealing with.
NEVER keep personal information (ie: S.S.N, Bank records, Insurance info, health info.) on the hard drive of you computer. Use a USB (thumb , flash) drive. You can pick one up almost anywhere for $10.00. Remove it from the machine when you are finished updating your files.
Run your anti-virus, anti-malware, and spyware programs (I use Avast (virus), Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy. All have free versions. Google them and download them from the manufacturers web site only.

Sorry to say, but yes, you did compromise your system.

You may have also compromised any online account you have logged into since then, like your bank account.

You need to immediately change all of your passwords on online accounts -- BUT do it from A DIFFERENT computer or device.

No legit computer company will ever call you on the phone and try to get you to download something.

You'll need to install some kind of malware-removal software -- from a very well-known and reputable source -- to get rid of it.

In the meantime, all your contact information has also been stolen, and your computer is possibly being used as part of a bot-net to send tens of thousands of illegal spam emails.

And possibly being used to attack computer systems in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Systems possibly ranging from everyday websites, to computers at the Department of Defense.

No, I am not kidding about any of this.

Please, everyone, learn about what it takes to keep your computer secure. It's not really hard. But if you need help, please call your computer maker, or at least an extremely knowledgeable friend.

Stay safe.

Oddly enough, I updated my pc yesterday.  It was the first time I had turned in on for months!  Usually I use a Mac.  If I had answered the call, I would have worried. Hopefully we are all too careful to give our personal information to strangers. Thanks to all who take the time to comment on calls they have received!

Microsoft never calls anyone about error reports or offering to fix your pc.
Scamers trying to get your info and credit card numbers do.
Never download anything they want you to they will have access to your
computer and you won't know it until it,s too late.

Female robo-voice said serious errors were detected on my computer and to press 1 to speak with a Microsoft representative. I hung up at that point. I don't have a PC, nor do I have any Microsoft software on my Mac. Since they are giving Microsoft a bad name, it seems that company should be going after these guys.

No, but now I do. Just kidding.

Teamviewer changes the password on each startup unless you specifically change it to a permanent one.

Never take advice about computers from some unknown person who calls you out of the blue.

Hi,  He got access when you ran teamviewer and gave him the id and pass code. I use this software with several of my established clients. It allows me to remote support.  The thing is I use it after they call me and after they have met me in person. I tell them NEVER to runm anything a person calling out of the blue tells you to.

PHISHING call from 1-564-578-5465. Recording claimed that my computer was generating serious computer problems and that I should press 1 to speak with a Microsoft engineer. When I tried to call the number back, a recording says, "The number called cannot be reached. Please hang up now."

Not sure why these people are allowed to have phone numbers that do not accept calls, but that the average person must take their calls even though we wish not to be contacted and have unlisted numbers. Unethical of the phone companies and regulatory agencies to allow these things to continue.

We have three phone numbers at home. One for regular calls, one for fax and another we use with for sale ads. We receive these scam calls almost daily on all three lines. All numbers are on the National Do Not Call List but they keep coming in. If I'm not busy I answer and burn up as much of their time as possible. Just don't give them any information they could possibly use and never open anything on your computer for them. I get them really irritated when I burn up their time acting really stupid and naïve. I just keep asking them to explain everything in great detail. I do the same with all these free cruises, etc. After I use up as much of their time as possible I simply say not interested. This usually gets me a FU or something like that.

Do the same with junk mail. Put everything back in the return envelope and sent it back to them. I always remove ant trace of my name, address, etc.

564-578-5465 calls once a day.  It didn't leave any messages.  One day I answered it and it was an automated message saying they are from Microsoft and that my computer is having a problem and I need to push #1.  I am not pushing any buttons for a scam call.  Be careful out there people.
