Anytime my caller id says a area code we don't recognize we never answer.  They are either scams or some foundation wanting money.  Don't answer unless it is a familiar number.

Prank Call
I got the call, he said his name was Joe and he was from Microsoft. I was thinking this guy is a real idiot, I mean Joe...really!
He proceeded with his bull about my computer and I told him that I did not own a computer, he was speechless. He finally hung up without another word. My best suggestion is to just tell them you don't own a computer. They have not called me since. LOL

LS, it matters little if your on the list or not. Sooner or later the illegal callers, scammer and criminal element will call you! Many of these are overseas in foreign country's also. Those here in the US when they get caught up with do get in trouble.  They spoof numbers and use dialers so even unlisted numbers are still subject to being called.  The DNC doesn't protect you from getting calls like this. It keeps honest ones honest and the complaint form is a database for all the agency's to use.

Here is where you report those calls:

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#&panel1-1

https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2 <telemarketers, sales,service,survey's that sell only>

I started getting phone calls from this number yesterday afternoon, I don't answer them if I don't recognize the number.  Today they have called me a total of 6 times so far.  I answered one time and no one answered me on the other end.  I decided to look up the number and I'm glad that I did, because now I know that it is a scam.

I, also, received call & also Mid-Eastern accent. He said there was a problem with my computer & he could help me fix it.  I said, Ok. He asked if I was at the computer.. No..Could I go to the computer..No, my phone won't reach that far. Do I have a phone near the computer? No. Do I have a phone plug in near computer? No. He said, then I don't know how I can help you. I said, I have an idea. You could call the phone co., have them install a line near my computer & send the bill to you.
He laughed for a full minute. Then said he couldn't do that & thanked me & hung up. Haven't heard from them since. I now think humor works better than anything else I've tried. He laughed, I laughed for 2 days & no harm done.

This scam is as old as the hills. It must have been one of the first scams to originate from the invention of computers. It's amazing that these people are still trying it on. I've had 'Steve Austin' amongst others phone me. The Six Million dollar man, no less! These thieves are parasites. Vermin.

A man with a strong Indian accent told me he was "with Windows" and said my computer "is infected."  I asked him to prove he was "with windows" and he said: "I will tell you your computer license number right now."  I told him to go ahead and do that.  He then instructed me to hit "control R" and a few other keys. I did NOT want to follow his instructions, so I said that I already was looking at my "computer license number" and to tell me what it said.  I also asked for his name and company. He told me his name was "Steve Smith" and he was calling from Salt Lake City.  The number on my caller ID, however, was from Ohio.  He then insisted that I press Control R, but I told him I was already looking at my "license number" and challenged him to tell me what I was looking at.  We went back and forth like this for a few minutes until he finally rattled off a number that had NO connection to my operating system license number or anything.   I then asked him if he had a mother who was alive.  He said "of course I do."  I then told him to ask himself if his mother would want him to cheat people.  He hung up on me.

Got this call a few times.  Didn't answer since I didn't recognize the number.  These calls are obviously spoofed caller ID numbers so there's no sense in calling them back.  They're fake.  No telling what country they're located in.  I put them on the block list but it's easy for them to change the spoofed number.  Ignore the number if you don't recognize it.

I am a computer tech, so if I have problems with my computer, I already know.  These people have called me a few times. I let them talk for a while, act concerned. But when they get to the part where they want you to install a program to allow them access,  and they tell you what they want you to type in the run box, I ask them:  how about I type "screw you, a***ole" instead??   they hang up every time. Unfortunately, they WILL call again from another number.  NEVER allow anyone access to your computer, unless you have called a Computer shop.  Scary thing is, they called me by name-and our phone isn't in my name!

This sounded way too scammy so I told him to call back so I could research the number. I found these postings and when he called back I said 'Hey it turns out I have a Mac." He responded in his thick accent 'well then you a dumb moth******er' and he immediately hung up. It did make me laugh but I would love to report him to someone. Thoughts? The second time he called it was from phillip.martin7 and the number was 502 365 5594
