How does it stop? What is being done to stop this???? What department is handling this?? And what are the consequences for the not nice people ( being nice) that are doing this? This happened to a friends mother of mine. Since people know it's happening where are the answers?

Left several messages, I did research on phone # and have not called back. Thick Indian accent and very difficult to hear.

Received call today. Checked on number before I called in case it was a premium phone number scam where it cost you $x a minute to call. Found this site - it is a scam as I suspected. No government official would ask you to pay by phone and certainly not by these methods. You would be able to call back and get hold of somone.

I would love to have had a conversation with this person but sadly I can't get  through!

I normally tell such folk that I am recording the call and that according to my state law I am obliged to tell them it is being recorded. Usuall ythis is enough to get rid of scammers. Sometimes I tell them the security agencies are monitoring my calls which has the same effect

This person called many times telling me that I owed back taxes and that they had people coming to arrest me and take my kids away.  He called me the first time and told me he was Max and that I needed to call 567-244-4515 and ask for Steven Speigler, could not understand his India accent.  So I called back and ask for him.  This guy told me that I owed taxes for two different years and because I had not paid that he was tracking my position and had people on the way to arrest me and take my kids.  He would not answer to many of my questions just kept repeating information about me and that in 30 minutes someone was going to be at my house.  I hung up the phone and called the police who informed me that if he didn't give me a badge number he was a fake.  I filed a report!

Call from 567-244-4515 threatening and harassing me I did some research this number belongs to a individual in Norwalk OH I have done the GPS coordinates and know where the call originates from it is a residential house the individual has a thick Indian or Pakastani accent and demands money via western union or by prepaid card supposed to work for the Legal Affairs Department of the US Treasury

Person ask for my husband ( who has been deceased since May 2012, telling me they were the U S Treasury and that my Federal Tax Returns has something FISHY! Really?? Gave me a name of Steve Sebastian to call and so I did and called their bluff that the person that called me and Steve sounded like the same person, but was trying to disguise their voice... and they hung up on me!  Please be careful!

It's a scam call.  If the US Treasury (or the IRS) had any reason to contact you, they would MAIL you a letter!  More on this scam here:

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

I got a very similar call yesterday from 567-244-4515 with an Indian accent claiming to be "Andy Gibson with the dept of legal affairs from US treasury ... delaying calling us might end up in a legal mess for you..."

I don't answer numbers I don't recognize so I have the voicemail... Just a nuisance.

Seems to be the same as the others have reported from the 567-244-xxxx Norwalk area.  Thick Indian accent saying the Dept. of Legal Affairs at the US Treasury has taken action against me and I should call this same number back ASAP to address the legal issue. I don't plan to call back, we'll see what happens.
