This is a criminal extortion ring operating out of India. ABC News released an investigative report on it in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

I had a call from a Brian Dawson at Frost and Jacobs say i owed quickcash some money for a payday loan, court procedings are in place. he has my email address, work phone number. they said they will email me the details of everything. i live in the uk and they gave me a uk phone number 0161 738 1346 which i have not called back. is this a scam?

Just read all the comments here--sounds familiar.  Got an "urgent" call at work:

threat of legal action...check
if I don't respond, he'll "feel sorry" for me...check

My bossplayed the message for me and we both laughed as I told him it was probably a scam, and I apologized for it wasting any of *his* time.

It also stole some minutes from my own life, during which I could've been doing something IMPORTANT....that teleharassing jerk!

I just received the phone call today @ 3:19pm from John Anderson, I was being threated, and was told the sherrif will be calling me to come and take me to jail. Total harrassment. Was told I owe US Bank National, $$$$$ and a court date set for Tuesday. So, I called back, the company name was not announced, the person James Anderson, he got mad at me and told me I was harrassing him.,  I was distrubed by this. So, I went on line and found all the comments. I am so relieved. He said he was sending all info to my email address, but the email he gave me was not mine.  This is really a SCAM! PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION.

Today JULY 12th, I also got the same call but he said his name was Jack Sheppard. Broken english, threating if this matter is not taken care of I would face consequences, then he tells me God Bless and have a blessed day!!  They think cause Im an older person they will harrase me and get money out of me, WRONG!! I have their numbers everyone of them 23 to be exact.They change numbers and names and think we are stupid, they are the ones who have no remorse for what they do to people. I dont answer my phone hardly any more because of them, I have no life at home afraid of what will happen next. Leave me alone!!

This number is calling me 3-4 times/day.  Thickly accented guy by the name of Paul Daniels.  Never identifies the company he is calling from and same basic formula all these scam callers say: "Don't ignore this call.  The matter is time sensitive.  IF you do not respond the consequences will fall on you and I can only wish good luck...blah, blah, blah.  If the person sounds like they are calling from India or some other Middle Eastern country, says the same basic formula above, and does not identify the company he/she is calling from, then it is a scam.  DON"T GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION. YOU WILL BE ROBBED.

My son's girlfriend was going to apply for a payday loan. I lent them the money instead so she never filed the application. A month later I started getting calls for her from several numbers, they quit calling for a few weeks and now the same heavily accented caller is calling and threatening her again on my phone.

I get calls everyday from this number on my cell phone, but they don't leave messages.  They left 4 messages at my office this week.  I finally called them back today and I spoke to a man "David Williams" with a heavy accent and he spoke poor english.  "David Williams" said that he was a lawyer for Frost and Jacobs law firm.  He tried telling that he represents USA cash advance and that I owed them 1200.  I do not have a loan through this company.  He threatened to forward this information to the sheriff's department in my town if I didn't pay today.  He even tried asking me how much my paycheck is. He even knows my home address and the last 4 digits of my SSN.

This company identifies itself as Frost and Jacobs Law Firm. It is an idiot that can barely speak english. He says his name is Michael Smidt...They have called my cell phone 7 times and left 4 very unintellidgible messages. They then called my work number and harrassed my employee into giving me the phone. I told him that if they do not remove my work number from their file and if they continue to harrass me at work, then I would file charges. I asked that all correspondance be in writing. They are jerks, and if they want anyone to take them seriously they need to hire people that can speak english....

Got numerous calls from a "Derrick Miller" from 567-248-4335 with a heavy Indian accent telling me to return his call for an extremely urgent matter.  If he doesn't hear from me or my attorney the only thing he could do is "wish me a good luck as the situation totally unfolds on you".  I recently was almost scammed by a "Robert Wood" who was even more rude so my sensors immedialtely went up when I heard "Derricks" barely recognizible English.  Just tell them you have recorded the calls, reported them to the Police, and to put you on the Do-not-call List.  Check out the below link:

An Indian man calls himself max morgan says hes an attorney and that I need to appear to the nearest courthouse for a lawsuit regarding non payment to American Payday (which I never had a loan through this company), Its a scam, I informed him I filed a police report regarding his phone calls yesterday gave him the sheriffs name and incident number regarding this fraud and he hung up. He has been calling us under another number which was (951)389-0290. I called the local police dept. fraud unit and made a report,

indian man called me had no acct information but say he needs my banking information

I just got scammed by this number today May 25 2012. They just scammed me out of $375.They threatened me with imprisonment and fines if I did not pay and I fell for for it.These people need to be caught and put in prison for the rest of their lives!

they been calling me on and off but before it was a number from california the calls from the california number stop like 3 months ago n today a recive calls from this number saying the samethings, i reserch the california number n found over 200 complaind about it, n now this one too...ugghh i told them today that i google their number n that i will report them he said well i dont f... care what u google,i said for my safety iwas recording the call so i can repot them n he just hang up, 15 later call again, what n a**, like other people here they claim a paid day wich is a lie, i applied for one but never wen thrue w it.. so they just stole my info, please help this to stop REPORT THIS PEOPLE

KUDOS to Adam for his response.  I have had several calls like this in the past 2-3 years and I refuse to respond to their demands.  I know it is a SCAM and I have told numerous times when I picked up the phone.  It is illegal to call at your place of business and I have had the police, FBI, FTC involved and there is nothing they can do about this.  These ARABS are idiots and please don't respond to their threats.  They should be prosecuted to the extent of the US Law and put in prison for threatening the U.S. citizens.

i just recieved a call from this same number talkn about it was a legal issue they needed to discuss with me do they have my permission to transfer it to there supervisor  because they are calling from a law firm ..yeah right .. i am going through chapter 13  i told them they can speak with my attorney and if they call this number again i will fill for charges its the law  they did  not want to talk after that nor wanted my attorneys phn number

OK found out they are located in Attica, OH on a switch number through Ohio Telecom . Switch # is PCTNOHAQDS0. Hopes this helps someone else.

I researched the loans but never did any further steps. My husband was contacted tonight on his job by a male that had a thick indian accent that said he did a payday loan for $710.00 and that he was from a law firm. He was very shook up about it. I reported it to the FTC and plan on called the credit groups tomorrow to place a fraud alert on each one.  For $710.00 we can charge that amount or work overtime, the people who do this who would create such worry in a good man are just plain evil in my view.  We never used them. Liars are just plain evil.

i didnt even wait for them to tell me what company their from.. while i was on the phone w/ them i google their number and i saw that it was a scam.. i had did a payday loan like 6 months ago, n since then changed my number.. so now their calling my job.. i will not fall for their scam

I received a similar call, this had an Indian accent. The whole message was very threatening, for example; if I do not return the call the action against for not returning their will be severe. You can report the number and/or the name of that person to the scam to www.ftc.gov/phonefraud

I am so fed up with these calls.  I will change my number but have received calls at work.  Does anyone have any other ideas?

Total scam... If you've ever applied for a pay day loan online, or someone you know listed you as a reference, that's how whoever this is got your number. Either he bought it from a shady loan place, hacked into said shady companies database & stole it, or even somehow joined an online lending network and then use any info they get from your original app (or the person listing you as a reference) to try and extort money from people that they don't owe by trying to scare then.

Unfortunately, since this call more than likely came from outside the country (with a spoofed number) the FCC & our law enforcement community can't do anything.

Just remember, don't be scared by these people into sending money western union or giving them your banking info...you'll regret it
