I got a call from Officer Shawn Patterson with a heavy India accent, he said I took out a payday loan. If i dont pay him today that the police was going to arrest me and he is going to call my work. He was yelling from the top of his lungs. When i ask him for more information regarding this debt, he got angry and said that the police will be arresting me within 48 hours and hung up on me.  Is this true? Will i get arrested? I never made a payday loan. He knew all my information, address, bank, and last four digits of my SS. What does he want? What should I do? Please HELP!! Single Mom of 4 kids trying to survive and keep food/Shelter over my family. Jenny T CA please contact me jtalo2007@gmail.com.

How do you get them to stop.  They call me 5 to 10 times per day on my cell phone and call my work 2 or 3 times.

Had a call yesterday from an Indian guy calling himself officer Brain Oliver, he quoted the last four digits of my SSN and said amongst other things that if I did not return his call to him he would "call the cops to arrest me."

This guy called both my cell and home phones.

These people called me on my job also. I've never gotten anything from them. I also told them to contact my lawyer.

I was called by these individuals as well.  They've even gone as far as to call my employer.  They will stop at nothing.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

A person with an Indian Accent called telling me that an illegal claim had been filed against me and that if they didn't hear from me immediately, the only thing they could do is wish me luck.  He claims his name is Officer James Winston.  He did identify what company he was calling from.
