I received texts from this number saying they wanted my car after seeing it on craigslist.  He is an oceanographer, will be traveling soon, and wants to buy it asap for his son.  After supposedly putting my asking price of $7,900 into my pay pal account, I became suspicious when they said that I would have to western union the guys who came to pick up the car $900 as a pick up fee.  So I guess I would have ended up with no car, no money, and out $900? although the phone number they used was 571-357-5495 he also called besides texting. I told him that would get back to him after checking with paypal. he then called again I told him that we could do any other type of transaction but not pay pal. never called or text again.

Just for a text from 571 357 5495 inquiring about buying my car off of CL.  Wanted to use paypal and have a "pick up agent" after the payment is clear. Said he is a marine engineer.  Just sounded strange, so I text him a said I wouldn't sell him the car. Thanks to this site for helping identify crooks!

Just got a text from this guy wanting to buy my car off craigslist.  Same story as I read from above.  He needed my car urgently, is on Maxwell AFB.  Just a loser.  Thank you all so much for posting.  He is still at it.

Just got a text from this scum. But the wording wasn't quite right and this person said that he/she was stationed at Maxwell Air Base. Not Maxwell AFB. I was active duty Marine and I know how they would respond. I am reporting this to craigslist

Got a text from this number asking for my paypal email so he can buy my headsets for his son overseas and would give me a extra $100 to cover shipping

Got the same text from the same number wanting to buy my boat.  Thanks for the posts.  It just confirmed my suspicions.

Well after reading all these messages this guy must be a scammer cause he replied to my C.L. ad as well and wants me to send my item over seas and is willing to give me a 100 dollars for my time and is willing to give me my asking price as well. To good to be true??? Prolly... I did a little research about the number and it seems to be from Virginia some where. But what I find weird is that there is no prefix that matches his in the white pages when you search it. Man the things people will do. And how can you scam someone with a pay pal account? That may be a stupid question but its coming from someone not very tech savy and this whole pay pal thing makes me a little nervous.

Got the same type of scam from this number (571 357 3190) so whoever it is is still at it. Text message to cell phone. Responded to a Craigslist ad for a boat. Claimed was at Maxwell AFB and couldn't make calls. Wanted to make purchase "urgently". Asked for paypal email address.

Why do people ask "why are you selling it?" Do they do to a store for a gallon of milk and ask the person behind the counter "Why are you selling this milk"  LOL

Same Guy text me about my CTS and had many questions like:
Why am I sell the car? Was the car parked in a gargage? How many owners? Do I have maintenance record? etc.. I agree with Debbi that he is probably a scammer.

Getting text messages about an item I have on Craigslist form this number. Whomever it is states they cannot call like ad states due to they speak poor english. Wants to send company to pick up item once payment clears pay pal. Well I would not do that because I am selling a 16 foot boat and he stated he needed it urgently but also contradicted himself and said he was offshore in service. Well if he is offshore why would he need the boat urgently? I have a strong feeling this is a scammer. Beware of this number.
