I received the same pay pal id request from this number today. I do not live in Virginia (area code) and there is no way this person could have fulfilled this sale the way it was described.

CL isn't bad, just not the best. There is alot of legitimate business done on CL, including Job findings for many. You just have to be more discerning about who/what your doing... When you sell stuff, put right in your ad, "NO PAY PAL" I do it, and I get a couple requests, but not many. I put cash only or wire transfer, most scammers don't contact me. Never give our your real email address, always mask it via CL service. These idiots look for info ad by ad... I had one the other day, did the pay pal thing, actually 2 in a week. I told both, cash or check only, never heard from either one again. One ever tried to explain how to set one up, I took it a step further, (I'm in trucking business so I can do this) but told them to call the LTL carrier and have them arrange a COD service, You pay them, set up the pick, when they hand me the cash, I will load the unit on the truck. I could even set up the truck if they wanted me to, never heard from them again. These idiots have nothing better to do than scam people. Don't become a victim. If you want to get cute with them, go listen to You Tube about "TOM MABE PHONE CALLS" and then make up your own prank replies to whatever suits your fancy, but only if you want to have some fun with them. This person sent me a fraudulent message on craigslist about txting them my paypall ID regarding an ad I put on Craigslist. I have been the target today for scammers from three different phone numbers and there is no let up. I have received over a dozen phone texts or e-mails. I will never put anything for sale on craigslist again.
