Most of these calls are  collection agencies or private investigators using call spoofing where they can make any number they want show up on your caller I.D. They are checking to see if your number is valid, when you might answer and whether you are male or female. If you answer, then they usually know the number they have on file is still working. They don't know if its still registered to you or not but they know it works. But they can find out if its still registered to you through certain databases. There are some telemarketers that get paid based upon the number of calls they make but many are monitored today. It's more likely to be collections agencies or attorneys who run collection agencies spoofing their number.

received a call today answered it no one was there. Called it back and it is a number no longer in use.

SCAM CALL WANTING CREDIT CARD INFO!

I have two cell phones. One is my normal cell and a second an EMERGENCY cell phone. Call come through on my first number and immediately following it came on my second phone. How frustrating! The Do Not Call Registry is a joke. I have reported "Cardholder Services" at least 50 times and I still get weekly calls.

John is absolutely correct. My motto is if isn't important enough to leave a message, why did you bother to call me. And the calls will not cease but will drastically drop-off if you never answer or call back an unknown number. I used to answer just to f*ck with them, but since these people have no morals or souls, it does no good towards the goal of stopping them.

Got uncertain, unwanted call from this number on my cell phone.

This is an un approved call soliciting me for debit reduction. when I asked them to take me off their list they hung up on me.

They called, no one spoke, call disconnected after about 20 seconds.

I also got this call twice in the last week no one on the other end. This is an unwanted phone call indeed

July 5, 2013; 11:00 AM, ET.  Received call from 580-420-7410; I didn't recognize the number so didn't answer.  Only family and close friends have this number, which is my cell phone.

I recived a call but they didn't leave a message.  I didn't recognize the number so I checked online and found this forum.  I called the number back but I got a message saying the number is not in service.  DO NOT bother it must be a scam.

Calling my private cell no. and they don't have a number to be removed (as if that works anyway).

If you're on the Do Not Call Registry and you get these scam calls, you should absolutely report them. The DNC Registry's number is 888-382-1222. The more people who report these illegal calls, the better the chance that these fly-by-nights will be caught.

Answered my cell phone thinking it was my cousin - It was a pre-recorded message from a telemarketer about consumer law or other BS.  Most likely the robo-dialing BS SCAM about lowering your credit card interest that has been going on for years.  Totally illegal (pre-recorded message to a cell phone from a telemarketer) so will file a complaint with the FCC & DNC registry, as I hope all have done on this thread as well.  The FCC has taken action on other sites for this SCAM outfit but they keep moving around and changing their numbers.  Keep the reports fresh and plentiful as that's the only way this will be investigated!

It accompish's 1 thing for the caller: It let's them know your number is active so that at a later time a telemarketer will call you back and try to get you to buy something or get information out of you.
Best thing to do if you recieve a call from a number you don't reconize is don't answer it and it will be deleted out of their call registery after so many attempts.

Got up from a sick-bed to answer this stupid call, and then find that (a) no one is there, and (b) It's a number that you're unable to re-call to complain.  The POX on companies that do this!  May they choke and hang on their telephone cords!

Should this number (580-420-7410) not cease and desist their calls to my cellular phone we will contact the States Attorney General in both NYS and OK.

What I'm trying to understand is how the scammer benefits from calling me but staying silent.

Card Member Services SCAM. Phishing SCAM. I ended the call by asking him for a number to call him back at since he was clearly breaking the law and he replied with 1-800-GOF**KYOURSELF and he hung up.
