They just called me too about a "civil" case  but at my fiance's home phone number?!

Called me sister and said I gave her as a contact.  Said they are the Genesee (?) law firm.  Sounds like a bill collector.

My wife received several rude calls from these people looking for a cousin of mine I have seen maybe twice in twenty years. I am stationed at Ft Bragg, N.C., my cousin is from Boston. How do these people get us connected, and how do I stop them and their crap!

Tennessee Valley Associates.

I love this guy...HA!  He calls and says he would like to speak to my husband.  I say he's not home, may I take a message?  He says , 'maybe you can help me?  I am looking for a relative of his named 'S****** C*******.   My database says he is listed as a relative of your husband.  Can you tell me how to get in touch with him?'  I say, 'no, my husband has no relatives named S****** C*******.  There are a lot of people in my state with the same name as my husband's, I have known my husband for decades, and know this to be a fact.'  He says, 'thank you for your time'.  Click.

Yes, this is a collection agency.  Our city's phone book has four pages of persons with the exact same name as my husband's.  So, they are going through the phone book and calling EVERY ONE of them, hoping to get a bite.  If someone is stupid enough to give information to an anonymous caller who is looking for a 'relative' of theirs, then they should be taken out back and shot.

And BTW, I was telling the truth.  I HAVE known my husband for decades, and no, he DOES NOT have a relative named S******* C*******.

I have been getting the same crap...they even called my husband's ex-wife and told her I was in a civil case and if I did not call back I could go to jail....I am so glad I checked these people out.  I am guilable and would have fallen for their scare tactics!

I received a call from this number today asking to speak to my mother by name. I wasn't home but my girlfriend answered and took the message. They knew that she was 70-80 years old. My girlfriend said that it was a male and he made sound like he knew my mother personally.
I live in Jacksonville, FL. My son in Louisiana also received a call today from the same number asking for my mother by name. My mother lives in California. How they got my number in Jacksonville, and my son's number in Louisiana is a mystery, but does sound like a scam. I tried calling the number back tonight but got the usual after hours message.
I will try and call back tomorrow.

One way to stop calls from the Genesee Valley is to call your telephone provider and have their number blocked. I just did that and it should do the trick.

Same issues as above. I dont normally answer calls from numbers i dont have but decided to do so this time. Rude, short, pushy, no info on what they want and something needs to be done about that.

Caller made deal to accept half of the amount owed. Only, I forgot to make the first payment. Supposedly, now they won't accept any missed payments. I think I waht to court and let the judge decide on the amount of the payment now that I have read these blogs. Thanks everybody.

This all started about 4 months ago getting calls from GVA as stated above owed money offered me 50% settlement. I did not do settlement or payments my husband happened to lose his job around the same time. Skip ahead to early april they actually sued me for $4200. Now i get my check today and it is being garnished for 25% WHAT CAN I DO......I CANNOT AFFORD THIS I HAVE THE ONLY INCOME. PLEASE HELP ME CAN I DO ANYTHING?????

HELP this company called me and i didn't pay when they asked now its 3 months later and ive been taken to court and my check is being garnished??????? they offered me a really good settlement and now i have to pay 3 times what they offered is there anything i can do about this???? i want to do the settlement now but its too late now dont be as stupid as me pay what you owe and dont suffer like i am going to have to for the next year my check is being garnished by 25%

I got a call from this Genessee Valley Authority this morning, the girl's name was Molly, she left a 1-800-247-1993 number, I called, they wanted to know if I could call my daughter and give her this number and a file reference number, I asked her what this was about and she said it was about a dispute matter...Later I called this number back after looking the name up on the internet, when they answered I asked if this was 585-278-1693, they said yes and asked if I got a call from them, I told her no and she rudely wanted to know how I got that number...have no idea but they had my numer and knew my daughters name also.

I got a call from Tennesse Valley Associates (585-273-6450) twice in the last week.  I didn't answer the phone because I don't know anyone from New York.  "Ashley" left a message saying it was in reference to my cousin's ex-husband who I have not seen or heard from in 10 years.  I didn't return the call after the first message because it seemed shady.  After the second call, I googled Tennessee Valley Associates and found this site.  Thank goodness for this site.  I don't know what the scam is about, but it's definitely not legit.

i to received a call again today from the company claiming to be tennessee valley associates. they had called twice before and i did not answer and they had left messages. I only answered this time because i have been getting way o many calls for people I do not know. they ask for a lisa curtis and said that I was listed as a contact call. I kept saying I do not know this person and then i ask where this person was from and they said Indianapolis. I did live in Indiana years ago but I do not know this person. I think as well that it is a debt collector taking the unethical way to find someone. how sad. Must be stopped!!!

I received a voice message on my home phone from these folks wanting to speak to my wife about a women she knows. When I heard the name of the person they were looking for I guessed it was my ex-wife. I called them back on the number left, 800-247-1993 with the case number and asked them what this is in reference to because I am the husband of the person the left the message for. When they told me who they were really looking for I told them that person is my ex-wife and I have been divorced for over 20 years and have no knowledge of where she is. I asked them how they got this number and they told me they just looked it up. I told them never to call this number again and I going now to make sure my number is unlisted. This smells like a scam to me.

Received a call (left on my answering machine) from 1-800-247-1993 on 7 Jan, 2009.  Mentioned file number 383884 and the name John Norman.  I called from work and some guy answered.  Said he was with Tennessee Valley Associates and were looking for John Norman.  Said they got my name from a federal list.  I was listed as a relative.  I have no idea who John Norman is.

Called asking to speak with brother in law.  Gave a reference number and a 1 800 number to call him back at.  Wouldnt tell me what the call was about just said it was important to reach the brother in law. I gave no additional info.

Its a scam. just tell them if they call you again that you are calling the better business bureau. They will leave you alone after that.

They called my Hr Department asking for me i got a email from my hr telling me to call her she told me this guy keeps calling over there asking for me and she thinks he is a bill collector she gave me the telephone number 1800-954-1694 and his name Ryan Ayers i called back because they cannot be calling me at work the lasy who ansered was very rude she finally put him on the phone asked me to verify my social and then said that i vialoated a contract through Captitol One Cc 5 YRS AGO. and that i owed 782.00 and how was i going to pay for it? I told him that i could not right now he said so you refuse and i said no ic annot afford it i am a single mother of 4. he said hold on then he put another guy on the phone named Mark Simon he got on the phone and became very rude bringing up A checking acount that i supposily have which i dont then started saying how do i survive how do i live? do i live with my mom and dad and i am 24 with 4 kids he kept saying that i said yes he said when are you going to grow up? He pretty much made me cry and i dont cry so i hung up on him i trying calling my hr department and they said there was nothing they could do... So now they have made me mad and i am trying to find everything out about them they have no right to talk to me like that no matter how much they say i owe.. i need help

call from "Genessee Valley".. for my mother who has been deceased for 5 years. I tried to tell this person that and she informed me that she has a government data base and that person is not dead and for me to put her on the phone right then.. I demanded her to repeat her name and the company she works for,phone number and address.. she said I already did that and refused to tell me.. Told her she was on a recorded line and the tape would be sent to the state attorney generals office for further review..

This person left a message stating that he had information for my son regarding an investigation being done on a family member.When the family member called this number,the speaker on this number requested for the last 4 digits of our social security number.BEWARE.This has to be a scam.

They keep calling saying it's in reference to my brother-in-law.  They actually did have his name, but again I told them I haven't seen him in 11 years. They wouldn't say what it was about and I wonder if it was a collections agency. I honestly didn't even think my brother-in-law new our number..

I also just got a call from them asking for my father. They said it was in reference to "a civil matter" involing my BROTHER-IN-LAW! They have nothing to do with each other, so it was an immediate red flag.

Hey, here's an idea for Genesse Valley Associates:

Use the "Straightfoward Approach", it includes honest integrety! But that isn't likely part of thier Policy and Procedure manual.  

Obviosly, they have background investigative software, such as Accurint or Experian, which lists every bit of information available on you, down to your neighbors telephone numbers. I used to use it myself on prospective new hires at work. You might think all the information they give out should be illegal, but I used to get every person's associate's SS#'s in the report, that information depended on the subscriber's security clearence assinged determined soley on the reason given on the appication for the service. Scarey stuff- huh?.

They keep leaving messages wanting to speak to me about my mother. My mother does not know who they are so I don't call back.
