They are calling all the Lake residents to report break-ins. They name a Washington County NY sheriff and give the local sheriff's number if you see anything suspicious  The call comes from East Rochester.

Got the same about this man - also said he spoke limited English and may sit down on the lawn and be unable to get up so please look around the house for him.  My call was a couple of hours ago too.

I got a call from this number this evening, didn't pick it up but then I called it back.  It was a recording from the Webster police department, an alert about an 80-year man who has Alzheimer's and walked away from a Webster care facility.  Hope it's found and okay, it's terribly cold out there tongiht.

My mom received a call from this number - caller ID said it was in East Rochester, NY. It was a call about leaf pickup in Xenia, Ohio. Makes NO sense.

Just received a call on my cell phone.These messages are legit and are from your city/county government. They send out alerts regarding important information regarding your area. I got one today from my local Government informing us that trick or treat was rescheduled for Saturday. I still think it is odd that they have a NY #. Must be where the headquarters are. Usually all land lines in the area are automatically registered but people can sign up to add their cell phones too (which I did). We also got a call with info on Sandy. Official and informative, but we live 5 hours away. Odd.

Stated it was a message for Franklin County that Hurricane Sandy would hit  us tomorrow around 2PM and be prepared.  Power was likely to go off, so stock up water, and even gas for vehicle.  Sounds about the right time from the local forecasts.

Ok, in looking into this, we found that these are real postings from your county government (track every call to every number). If they tell you to boil water, then you need to do it. It's not a scam-- it's your local government informing you of events and they are using an emergency notification system to do that automatically via landline, text, cell phone, email or TTY (hearing impaired). Message from reverse 911 for a boil water alert

Got a call tonight (computorized) at 9:02 pm. It said that the Queensbury water supply is contaiminated & then gave a www.glensfalls.com web site which tells me all about the water supply. I don't know why I get all these calls since I am on the do not call lsit. these have all started about 1 yr. ago otherwise it had been working fine. This kind of call scares me to all hell though. The number it came from is 585-419-0890 in East Rochester NY

It is a Robo call from the police in Rochester, NY. They just woke me up because they had found a 3 year old child in my neighborhood. It was at 4-27 a.m. then 15 miutes later called my mothers phone in the same house, different number same crap a** recording. B***S***!

Call came in on my cell phone while I was at work.  This is a recorded message from 911 and left a message on my voice mail stating to not go outside, to stay away from all windows and to not call for any emergency vehicles unless absolutely necessary due to a police investigation.  The recording stated that they would call again when the incident is resolved.  Within a few minutes, another call with a recording came through stating that the incident was resolved and that we can resume our normal activities.

They called, and my number is unlisted, so why did they call? Stop the calls

Called me twice once at 12:23 AM and again at 12:51 AM woke me. They said nothing. I hung up. Both times.

Rec call last night midnight. Live in Farmington (Ontario County) reported missing male w/ mental issues name is Richard with full description. Last seen on some street in Victor/Farmington area. Calling police to report this.

Monroe County Sheriffs....stay away from windows & doors because of an on-going police issue.

its is a reverse 911 number.. usually a pause followed by police info.. aka missing person.. boil water notice.. etc..

I also received a voicemail saying it was Monroe County Sheriff thanking me for help in missing person investigation.  Voice sounded computer generated and I have no idea what this is about or why they'd call my work number on a weekend besides.
