ConServe is out of NY. They have offices all over the US. Call them and harass them. Just remember the economy has already collasped and they expect you to pay. Give them a taste of their own medicine. SEND A CEASE AND DESIST LETTER. Overload their system with phone calls by making up names and asking for personal information about their employees. These agencies, i.e. ConServe, Van Ru, and Immediate Recovery, Inc. are scumbags. Remember, they cannot do anything to you if you protect yourself, i.e. have you money under another person's name. Get an attorney just in case they try something legal. Be prepared they are a bunch of bullies who need to be put in their place. SUE THEM AND THE EMPLOYEE WHO CALLS YOU. RECORD AND DOCUMENT ALL CALLS.

I received a letter in the mail claiming i debt I owed to a school I did not attend. Turns out it was for a parking ticket that my ex-boyfriend received while driving my car. He says he paid it but i have no verification that he did. I wrote a letter to Conserve asking for a verification of the debt which they sent to me. So I guess I have to suck it up and pay this $111.11 parking ticket for a bad decision I made when I was younger! Live and learn!

Hey, if people were hiring after taking out the loan you could get money. the economy is collapsing, if ppl knew that 4 years ago, maybe you wouldn't have to get nasty. Also you are a third party hired and it was paid off  and bought by your company anyway. You just want to shake down ppl.
You are the scumbag and a LEECH. be considerate of some ppl financial situations, That could be you or your kids one day. KARMA is a She Dog!!!!!!!

What kind of "scumbag" goes into a line of work where his job is to harass, demean, and threaten people who obviously don't have the money right now to pay the bill (otherwise they would have paid it) into giving them money?

ConServe has a contract with the United Stated Department of Education. Call it what you want but if the government wants them to collect, the calls will continue until you takes steps to pay. If a school has hired the company, the same things applies.

If you didn't receive the mandatory Validation Letter send to EVERY debtor, it is because your address was not properly updated.

If you signed up for classes and just stopped going, you owe the school unless you withdrew with a 100% refund. This normally must be done BEFORE classes start. Check your student hand book. READ before you sign paperwork(for future reference).

The "Do Not Call List" does NOT apply to collections.

If you believe it is a mistake, FIX IT.

Sent in a written letter of dispute and it can be resolved. If the debt is valid... it's due.. pay your bill, set up payments or stop complaining. If it was a MISTAKE(rare), it will be rectified.

Check your credit report if you think it's a "scam."

First off, it is illegal for me as an employer to give out "payroll info" to anyone over the phone, regardless of the verbal info you have. Second, 99.9% of the time it isn't even the person they are calling to try and get money from. Third, all of these "collection" companies are scammers now. No if's and's or but's. They get a name like John Smith, then they google it and if you live anywhere near and sometimes not even in the same state and they try to make some other John Smith try to pay the bill. Get a life. Send something to me in the mail and it better include some hard court documents or you are not getting any info about my employees out of me.

Here's how to get rid of them:

Federal law dictates a third party collection agency must validate the debt in writing before they can collect anything. No validation, no money. It's that simple. Send them this letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requested. Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act they have five days to respond:

Today's Date

Your Name
Your Address

Collector's Name
Collector's Address

VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state)
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense.

You cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.

Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

They have been continously harrassing me for over 2 years stating that I owe my University unpaid expenses. I called my university and asked if I did still owe money (despite having a diploma on my wall) and they said I was paid in full.

I then asked why I was being called by conserve AM.  I was told that there was a mistake over 8 years ago when they thought I still owed money and my name was in a database, but then removed.

I called Conserve AM and they stated they purchased my name and that I still owed the money. I said that I had contacted the university and the person on the other end become rude and said if I didn't pay they would be taking to me court and charging me extra fines, that would more than double the amount.

Again, i stated the university said they did not hire this company to retrieve any owed monies.   The gentleman on the phone said this was being recorded and that I had plead guilty and the next letter I received would be a court date.
I hung up on him.

So no they are not a legitmate company - they are the scumbags - they purchase a database of names that owe money and then call and harrass people trying to get the money (whether it is owed or not) way past the statue of limitations in order to make a profit off of their purchase of names.

But glad to hear you drank the koolaid during your training.  They are lucky to have such a loyal worker as yourself

My business and answering service have received hundreds of calls from this number 585-633-7945 and 866-633-7945.  Notice they have the infamous "666" in their number . LOL.
They said an employee had completed an application and they could not give any information; they are from CONSERVE!  is that like the man or woman from UNCLE.  Once they even said they were from the Dept of Education.  another time they said they were a government agency.  I told them to send what they had in writing to the employee (ie, a copy of the "application"), but they said they did not want some receptionist seeing the employee's social security number.   Another time, they said it was for the owner of the business concerning a business application and regarding the paperwork. If someone refuses to send something by snail mail, then they probably aren't legitimate.  so i told them they sounded like identity theft people and not to call again.  This is not the first time i have ordered /requested that they not call my business.  They are stressing me out. Call Joe Lieberman's office.  He works for such companies and takes lots of campaign contributions from them.

I haven't recieved any personal phone calls from this number but they keep callling my job and when my manager tries to ask who it is they just say they'll call back and she tells them to call me directly. The man still keeps calling and just says it's about my "paperwork" and asks all friendly if i still work there. Today he finally left a number and actually used a man's name who is a director of a homeless shelter in NY (i thought the name sounded familiar and i googled it and sure enough-he popped up). I need to know how to get them to stop calling my job because my manager's are getting very upset and i don't want to get fired over something like this. They can call me all they want and i'll gladly answer but they have yet to do so.

First of, professionalism dictates that any company or organization identifies themselves, by law, before they receive any information from the individual. No one in their right mind would give personal information, especially in this day and age, with identity theft and scams running ramped, unless the company identifies themselves first, showing that they are legitimate, which is a reasonable request considering you, as a third party collection agency, are requesting money.

Second of all, since schooling is lacking in even aiding graduates in finding relevant work to sustain a living and since money doesn?t grow on trees and the cost of living  is almost impossible to satisfy, as you must be making 50 times your monthly rent amount, which the vast majority of people are not, including those holding graduate and undergraduate degrees, it is disingenuous for you, as an apologist for the collection agency, to say ?you can?t have it both ways? you must identify yourself, you do not have to give personal information to do so, but you are the company and it is in the person receiving the call?s best interest to know who is contacting them? YOU ARE MAKING THE CALL, YOU GIVE YOUR INFORMATION FIRST? Your way of doing business is smarmy and shady and is exactly how criminals who scam people do business? in support of all the other comments made on this sight, against YOU!!!

I work for a software company. Yesterday a person named Lisa Robinson called 3 times for one of our employees. The first time she called, she was transferred to the employee with whom she verified the birthday of the person she was calling about and it turned out that it was NOT our employee! She was assured by Lisa that her phone number would be taken out of their system. The employee didn't think anything of it, because Lisa said they would remove her phone number, so she didn't say anything to us about the details of her phone call.
Lisa called back a little later in the afternoon and she asked for the employee again. It is my job to find out who people are before I transfer them to whoever they ask for. (It is a sales office and that's just our policy) This time the employee was at lunch. Lisa left her name and number for a return call. When the employee came back from lunch I told her that Lisa had called again while she was at lunch. This time the employee told me what was going on and so I Googled the phone number Lisa was calling from. {585-598-6196} I just love Google! I Google EVERYTHING! So, That is when I found the entries on 800 Notes, so the employee declined to call them back on company time.
Lisa then called a third time and didn't ask for the employee this time, but asked for (by first name) the owner and CFO of the company, who also does payroll. She was trying to verify all of the employees' personal information, which was not given out and is protected by law! You would think that if these jokers were legit, they would know that you can not give out an employee's personal info out, over the phone, computer, email, us mail, it doesn't matter, it is not legal to do that.
Today, some guy called and identified himself as a "Mr. Bishop from Conserve" I immediately knew who it was and so I asked if it was business or personal. He said business. Again, I know where he is calling from, but he doesn't know Googled his number and I know! lol You still with me? I know it is long, but I want you to know it all!
I went round and round with him and finally he said "it is personal business". Wow does this guy really think I am that dumb! I told Mr. Bishop he would have to call the employee at home on her personal time. He said but (again called the owner by her 1st name) she said I could speak with the employee (please keep in mind I am trying to keep the employees name and the owner of the company's name out of this) and I told him that didn't matter, if this is a personal call, you will have to call her at home and I hung up. The whole time I could hear him saying "ma'am, ma'am" as I was hanging up the phone. We can not have personal calls in a sales office! That way there is no money being missed if the rep is always on a business call and never a personal call.
Bishop called back and wanted to speak to MY BOSS...I put him on hold and went and told my boss what was going on, that even the owner of the company told me to have them stop calling. Bishop was going to fax a complaint letter about me...ummm ok whatever, go right ahead! I don't have anything bad on 800 Notes or Google as he does!! My boss spoke with him, gave him our fax number and hung up. Pretty much listened to what he had to say and blew him off!
Nothing has come across the fax as of yet and I am really not concerned about it.  Again, I am sorry I took up so much of your reading time, but as I said, I wanted whoever reads this to know the whole story!
I swear when these bill collectors that are MEN and they start threatening a WOMAN and she doesn't scare easily (like me) it really makes them irritated! LOL I think it is hilarious! Have a fabulous day everyone!

You need to ID yourself first before they can give you the nature of the call - this is federal law for third-party collections and is in place for your protection.  Would you want them telling any Joe Schmoe that they are a collection agency who is looking for you?  No - and if they did do that - you would then be griping about how they just give information to anyone.  You can't have it both ways.  A collection agency is not a scam - you owe the money.  Pay your bills and you will not receive these calls.  By the way - this agency specializes in student loans.  What kind of a scumbag borrows money that allows them to better their life and then feels they don't need to pay it back is beyond me.

I also received a call from this number Conserve.  They first called me at home when I was not here.  The first number they called me from was a 585-598-6187 number.  When I called them back the man who answered the phone told me a vague answer as to the nature of the call and then asked if they had called me.  I told him yes, and then he asked for my number.  When I gave it to him he said " I have no record of it" and hung up in my ear.  I then called the number back and a woman answered the phone.  She proceeded to ask if they had called me and I told her I would tell her if she would provide me with the information as to the nature of her business.  She then replied that no matter how many times you call this number we will tell you know more information then what we have already said.  I then proceeded to tell her she would receive no further information from me and bye bye ***** and hung up.  The number called me back and was this time from the 585-421-1000 nuber.  I did not answer.

The woman was unhelpful about the real nature of the call.  She said the companies name was Conserve but refused to tell me what the company does.  I hung up.  Then they called me  on the 585 421-1000 number, and the company name "Conserve" came up on caller ID.  I refused to answer.
