They keep calling here and asking for the previous owner by name.  We have lived here 13 years.  Blocking this number!

I just got a call from 586 283-3000 ( got it off my caller ID Name is financial services ).  They wanted to know if I would be home on Monday at noon to get free coupons.  I asked them why I needed to be home and the woman ( Lynn ) said that she was from extended benefit services representing the National American legion auxiliary. I said national would never give out my info. This woman have no clue what the difference is from a unit or post. Definitely not auxiliary member. I ask her for her # she gave me 800-849-2894. I called this # and can only leave a message.  As you can see the above tele # does not match what the woman gave me. I search the internet and found out this is all a scam. As you see below I turned them in to the FCC for fraud. Please don't set up appointment and meet with this company.

you *can* call the number back, I just did it to test it out. I'm not associated with them in any way. When they called me the first time I actually talked to the person on the other end of the line, instead of being abusive, taunting them, etc. I researched who they are, and I found that the ALA is a service organization, and a decent one. Yes, they do have a telemarketing company working for them, for membership drives. Like any of these service groups (AARP, Elks, American Legion, etc.) they also sell insurance, sell or give out coupon books, conduct surveys, etc.
Unfortunately it's not uncommon for a telemarketer to be rude to the person he/she is calling. They get hung up on all day, sworn at, etc, and no doubt it negatively affects them. It's too bad, because it reflects negatively on the company the represent. It doesn't necessarily mean the company they represent is bad.

The name of the company is: The American Legion Auxiliary--  or a telemarketing company associated with them.

People, 586-283-3000 is for the American Legion Auxiliary.
At its core, the Auxiliary is a service organization for the *spouses* of American Legion members, in other words, they do service work for the wives and husbands of current and former military personnel (mostly former).
In addition to the service work, there is also a marketing company attached to the ALA. That is where this phone number comes in. They will do membership drives. Additionally, they will ask if the person would like one of those coupon books that can be used at local restaurants and merchants.
The problem seems to be some of their telemarketers are low-quality; calling but not speaking, hanging up, etc.
In this economy I'm certain if they found that if one or more of their telemarketers was doing a shoddy job, they would simply get fired and replaced within 24 hours.
These folks are not necessarily bad. Just my two cents.

APSA is nothing more than a company called Financial Services of America. There representatives visit people 50 and older to deliver a "free package" but what they are really trying to do is gain access to your financial information and sell you annuities. They have been exposed on Channel 7 for scamming people before. BE CAREFULL!!

I just called the number itself and was given an automated option to have my number removed.  Was told it would be removed.  They claim to be a charitable outfit therefore exempt from do not call list.  We will see if I get anymore calls.  If I do, you will hear about it on this site.  If 2 weeks or so from now (December 6th, 2012) no message from me you should do as I did.

Answer call, no one there.  Calls at various times during the day. I called two other search services and one (Intelius) said "Land Line" need money for name.  WhoCalledMe said "Cell Phone" need money for name.  What's up with that?

Called the 1-800-977-9292 and spoke to a John Cole and explained about the 586-283-3000 number and how I answer and no one is there and trying to call back the number and can't get connected. I asked to be taken off their call list. John Cole asked for my name and number and would get to the right people and take care of the problem. We will see. Maybe if everyone annoyed by their calls should call and complain and demand to be taken off their call list.
