No not again! I did that whole Gov phone opt out thing and they still call

i am Joe Umpleby and did own this number a month ago, i had this number disconnected on 8-12-08.  someone is using this number illeagally.  i contacted the phone company which is COX communication and told them what was happening and they were of little help.  i am continuing to pursue this issue and if possible will place legal action against them.

Calls me and does not leave a message

interesting part is, that I started receiving these never ending calls AND hundreds of flyer ads mailed to my new address, only after I changed my car registration over to my name, phone number and residence.

So, I think those people have received this data straight from the paperwork that I handed over to the state, which I had to in order to get my new license plate.

Has this been the same case with others ?

I get the same thing about once every 2 weeks.  When I try to talk to someone they hang up.  It must be a scam. It is not hard to spoof you phone number, especialy if they use VOIP service.

This # called me on 9/9/08 at 11:54am, no msg.

I got a call from phone number 602 296 5010. The lady from 'warranty services' ask about the car model, year and miles. Gave fake info about car model, make and year and then she transfered to another person.
That guy said, his name is Bob. He didn't want to say which company he is from but want take my info. I guess these people take personal info  and do identity thefts. Don't give any info.

well, we really can't tell whether you really are the real Joe Umpley being scammed or whether you are just trying to get us off your tracks...

However, thanks for letting us know your own situation (given that we can believe you)

Regardless, there are also other ways that you could approach, if COX is unwilling to help you in your current situation.

1. You could be writing a letter to the Governor (of Arizona) complaining about this situation (that I am sure you are not the only victim of quickly reused phone numbers).

2. You could contact some local or national media outlets (TV stations mostly help faster if they are interested and have nothing better to report) and get them become aware of your (and possible 1000's of other people's) situation.
You know, get the name COX come up negatively a couple of times and I am sure one of their Van's will be in front of your doorstep before you can even spell out their name.
Maybe the station will even do an investigative report themselves and actually catch those bastards or get the state to become involved with some new flaky laws.
You never know.

Also,
3. You could contact the phone book company and Google and demand them to have that number removed from your name and address.
If unwilling, I am sure the least COX could do for you, is to print out a confirmation statement that this number does not belong to you, anymore. (Or just hold up your canceled contract)

Richi, thanks for your follow up post and we will try the news people here and see if they are willing to get this scam out in the public.  i am trying to find out some government agency who could also help.  seems to me when a number is activated it should be tracable by someone or entity.  it is really frustrating..
found this site from a person who got my name and home number from..... they told me to take a look and see what everyone is saying so i did and wow.  
this reaffirms my attitude toward phone solicitation,  just don't give anyone your info from an unsolicited phone call, period!!!!!!

I've been called several times now from this number.  A recorded message indicates that my car warrenty is due.  It's completely B.S.  Any way to get something done to shut these jerks down?

Called Electric Lightwave Telecom because I've been getting these calls for so long.  They say the # is not on their accounts (could have been there originally but gotten switched).  They couldn't give me a history of who originally had the #.  Any other ideas?

Instead of pressing the option to put me on their do not call list, I chose to speak with a representative.  As soon as she answered (Eastern Indian accent) I requested to have my name put on the 'do not call' list. She apologized for disturbing me and I have not been bothered by them since.

Yep, car warranty is due. I was called just an hr ago by them. First I have heard from these guys in a month or two; before I was getting called two or three times a day from a 956 area code and a 225 area code, same exact message.

they have called me multiple times as well and offered to extend my car warranty because it was goin to expire. i just figured it was the wrong number, then i googled it. :) i love google. haha. stupid scammers, i hope they get caught.

Just got a call from them too - same as all the rest. No message. Received calls from them before, talked to a "representative" who claimed the number would be removed. Apparently they're no good at doing that either.

These people use several area codes and phone numbers (702-520-1487, 484-220-1176 and of course 602-296-5010)and it is always the same thing your auto warentee has expired.  According to the local BBC they are based out of Mo. and have been reported to the BBC several times because they are in vialotion of fed Law.  They have several complaints filed aginst them.  And yes it is a scam.

Ditto here.  Calls to my home, work & cell.  About 50 calls now, all saying "this is the second and fileal call"

Please , stop threatening us!!!!!!   I am Joe's wife . We are for real.  We had this number disconnected.  Why would Joe go to all this trouble to  post messages to protect his family?  We are sorry for all the inconvenience our disconnected number has caused you all.  Voicing and opinion is one thing, threatening harm is another.  The threats are becoming so distressing to us and our family .  Please stop threatening us !!!!!!!!
