Calling PRESTON BAKER!!!! If you are out there, these scammers are looking for you.  They keep calling MY nuimber at work AFTER HOURS asking for you. They always leave a message.  So far it's been from the 800 and 602 numbers. There is no one here by that name and no on in the company either. That number has been a company number since before dirt.  I am also reporting it to the FCC complaint list.

602-537-9011. THIS IS NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS!!!!!!!  Even though the caller ID shows that.  You should never talk to anyone who calls and says they are calling from your credit card compay.  Tell them you will call the company directly and use the number on the back of your credit card.  And when you call the company, don't input your whole card number; just keep doing whatever you need to do to talk to a live representative.

I've received a few calls from this number or the like.  When I answered last time they said that they were looking for someone who wasn't me.  When I explained that no one by that name was at this number and I had owned it for a couple years, they apologized and said they would stop calling.

However after a few months they have started calling again.  This actually fits the pattern of someone who is failling to make steady payments.

I haven't had an AmEx account since the early 90's.

Now I wanted to point out a few things for everyone --

1. Whoever has been using this number, they've been using it a long time now.  Scroll back this this forum.  It's unlikely that a fraudulent company would have had this same number this long and not been taken down.  However, that doesn't mean that a real fraud couldn't spoof a legitimate company's phone number to trick you into giving them your info.  Spoofing doesn't mean you own the number, it just means that you substitued the real phone number for an alternative phone number.  I once saw a case where someone spoofed calling from the White House.
2. India -- It makes perfect sense that AmEx would send this to a collections company and then the collections company would do the "rich big company" thing and "Outsource" their "non-mission critical" work to other countries.  Oh and by extension that this would not be a recognized AmEx phone number...  it literally isn't.
3. When you call in to have AmEx check your account and they find that it is up to date, ask them to run a more general search on your phone number and confirm that there are no other accounts utilizing your phone number.  Tell them you don't want the person's name, you just want to know if there's another account out there that is using your phone number.
4. If you don't have an account, I would give them your first name only and ask them what they're calling about.  I don't think the real Am Ex would outsource their new accounts division so anything with new accounts should _not_ be coming from this number, so you should only be getting collection calls, maybe fraud verifications from this number.  By fraud I mean, "did you purchase a new $1500 TV last night?"  "No.".  Someone called this "recognizing a charge".  That's assuming it really is your account.

It really is Amex. But just as mentioned before, don't give them any info, and then call the 800 number on the back of your card. I had a late payment by 2 weeks and that's when they started calling me.

I work for AMEX. Anyone who calls out of an office in Phoenix will have this number come up on caller ID. Its not a scam and its not a specific department. This number could be calling you for a number of reasons.

I received the call after having received five other calls supposedly from American Express wishing to speak to my husband whom the caller referred to as "S."  My husband discussed the payment he owes at length to the black woman on the phone and then later said that he had given American Express the same information on line.  She had his account, but seemed unaware of his last communication with American Express, and he told the caller that she must be a contractor for AMEX-- a contractor-- or a scammer who had the contract info and was not a legitimate employees of Amex??  Sounds suspicious to me.  I just have not reported this tactic to the FTC.  She kept pressuring him to pay the money too-- and the money owed was from an account which another employer of my husband was delinquent in paying.  My husband said he could not pay until he was paid or words to that effect.  Something should be done about these tactics.  personally I think that this subcontractor was some kind of scammer-- probably needed some cash for a crack deal or something.  Only calls I have received from Amer regarding this sounded like they came from foreigners or someone from  a black ghetto somewhere, as in the case of this last caller.  So why don't folks who speak standard American English call?  Maybe this too is a tip!

This number is a scam. They call saying they are from AMEX, and have your name and number and say that you are late on your monthly fee and that you have to close your account or make a payment.   THIS IS NOT AMEX. AMEX does not treat its cardholders this way.

Contact the number on the back of you card before EVER making a payment.  After I called AMEX they said that my account is current and that the number I provided is not actually an American Express Number.

This call I received was from a recruiter for American Express for a job here in town. She did leave a message and a phone number to call her back which I did. Now she is sending an email with links to apply to the job. She found me on Careerbuilder.

I owed two months and paid with US. Money order four days ago. The calls keep coming and I have a receipt where I paid. Times are tough and being self employed means customer payments do not always arrive on time. As a matter of fact we're waiting on several thousand that was due Dec. 15th.  When we get our $$$$, AMEX get's more. They got their payment to bring us current and still they call to agrivate us.
Shame on AMEX.  May they rot with Bank of America, who we bailed out. Neither are worth a thin dime. Little did I know that AMEX backed Obama and the democratic bums who make up "our government" (if you want to call it this.

Someone has put YOUR number (probably just an error) as the number on someone else's a/c, who they are trying to reach, probably as a fraud alert, or for collection.  Just speak w/them, tell 'em you don't have an a/c w/them, and you'll be done with this.  This is Not a big deal.  I worked there, believe me, they have no time for calling unless there is a problem on the a/c.

It IS an Amex number, they may be trying to find out if you recognize a charge, etc.  If you don't believe it's them, just call the # on back of your Amex card and ask what it is they want, as there will be a message in your a/c as to why they are calling ! It's to prevent fraud, normally, unless it's Collections, etc.   Believe me, they do Not Solicit, they do that by mail only !  If they call you, there's a REASON!

Prank Call
I highly doubt this and all other harassing calls could be from AmEx!

For one: I do not have an account or card with AmEx. Never have, in fact!
For another: I have read where those that have an AmEx card/account have called AmEx and were told that none of those reported numbers were AmeEx!

And at least some of those numbers making the harassing calls (claimiing to be AmEx) can be traced to IP Addresses. And the voice on the other end is alway one with a strong Indian Accent!

There has been other similar type of reports where they claimed to be some well known business or Bank ... fits the same pattern as this one!!!

These idiots won't get through no matter how long they try! I have each of the reported numbers blacklisted. The only way I know they tried (repeatedly) is that the service I use to block/blacklist these type of calls has a call log and these scam numbers always show up in red!

I really hope they enjoy the recording and tone they will keep getting ... because that's all they'll get each time! LOL

Tell them the next time they call you are recording their phone conversation (legal in most states), which will be turned over to the FTC and your attorney.
