I'm a receptionist at a business. Caller id said 602 537 9012 for the name but 623 492 4206 for the number. I thought it looked suspicious. She asked for one of our employees and I asked what the call was about. She said she's from AmEx regarding some possible fraudulent charges on his credit card. I transferred the call to his extension and then looked up the number here on this site. After seeing the comments, I ran and told him about it and luckily he hadn't answered. However, she had left him a message. I told him he should call the number on the back of his card to make sure he is really talking to AmEx.
We looked at the back of his card and they have an 800 number and also an international number which is 623 492 4206 (same as what the caller id said). Kind of weird that the caller id shows their international number, but looks like this might be legit.
Also weird that their international number is a Phoenix number, but I guess that's another issue.

602-537-9012 keeps calling but never leaves a message.  I called it back and there was a recording from American Express asking me to enter my account number.  I hung up and went to the American Express web site and called one of their 800 numbers.  I asked if there was a problem with my account and they said no.  I told them I keep getting a call from this number (another number also shows up 623-492-6031) and why are they calling me if there isn't a problem with my account.  I was told they are legitimate numbers of American Express but that the number is calling me in error, they are aware there is a problem and they are working on getting it fixed.

These numbers 6025379012 and 6234926031 have called me 5 times today. I am glad I have researched it to. I have nothing to do with American Express. Wonder what they are going to say to me.

I'm miffed by this!  I in fact called a real AmEx number to get the low down because of these posts.  People are posting incorrect info regarding these numbers and another one ( 336-393-7010 )

The number, is in fact for AmEx, probably an outsourced number, but it's when your late, or behind, just as our payment had not been processed by the stupid bank over the weekend.

Anyway... call the 800 number on your card to be safe, but just know - these number are NOT some kind of scam.

I confirmed all these numbers with a REAL AmEx representative.  602-537-9012  and 623-492-603 ARE part of AmEx -  BOTH are in Arizona.  (as well as the first number mentioned)

This call originates from a contractor hired by American Express to contact card holders with payments that are delinquent. Don't give any information. Call the number on the back of your American Express card. Amex rep stated that call centers are located in various countries. Probably accounts for 2 numbers showing up in caller ID.

Golly, folks, everyone sounds paranoid here...  Am Ex called me, thank Heaven, to let me know about fraudulent charges on my account.  I am pleased that they checked with me to ascertain if I were the one charging over $2000 in airfare!!  They are expressing a new Platinum card to me to arrive before 7PM tomorrow (Saturday).  How could you complain about this sort of service?

I also show 2 numbers calling ~ 602 537-9012 & 623 492-6031.  I'm not afraid to answer either.

Am Ex is the best thing going ~

Received a call and both numbers showed up on caller id, so we didn't answer and no surprise..they left no message. Hung up after 4th ring.  both 502-523-9012 and 623-492-6031 showed on caller ID. Glad I looked..seems after more than 2 years from the comments here, they are still scamming! You'd think something could be done!

Receiving calls from 602-537-9012/623-492-6031 for the past week...averaging 4 a day, beginning around 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  This evening answered and asked who was calling.  Sounded very unprofessional...took three attempts for me to understand who they supposedly represented and who they were looking for.  I did the questioning and found out the caller was physically located in India.  My caller ID identified the above numbers which are Phoenix phone numbers.

I received a call this morning @9:51am their were two numbers present on my phone. One was 602-537-9012 and the  other 623-492-6031. Of course I let it go to my answer machine but they didn't leave a message.

From all of the comments that I have been reading it's American Express that was calling. I find this crazy because I don't even have an account with them and don't intend to!

I received a call from a "D.C. Billings"  allegedly from "American Express" at 602-537-8729.  He fumbled around asking for the name of our acct holder and said he wanted to upgrade our acct but he knew nothing about it (whether it was corporate or business).  I asked him was there a problem with our acct as AmEx had never called us unless there was.  He fumbled again & I said "we're perfectly happy with our services, there is no need for you to call us again!!"

I just called American Express (the number on the back of the card) and let them know about being contacted by someone claiming to be AmEx (the number that called was 602-537-9848).

In speaking with the representative they stated that there was no notes on the account that anyone from American Express had called and as such the other call could be deemed fraudulent.

If you receive call from anyone claiming to be American Express DO NOT give out any information over the phone -- instead hang up and call the 800 number on the back of your card.

Hello all.  Okay, I've been in contact with the Amex corporate offices and have spoken to Ken Chenault's personal assistant about these calls.  Amex admits they are making the calls, but amazingly, they aren't sure why they are making them.  They are still looking into this, but it appears to be a telemarketing effort (and illegal one, since robocalls are now illegal in the U.S.).

If you get a call from Amex, please report it immediately to the FTC.  They are starting an investigation and the more complaints they get, the more likely it will be that they can put a stop to it.

Call the FTC at 1-877-382-4357, and file a complaint in person about the calls.  Make sure to tell them it was a robocall, and that you didn't ask to be called.  Every complaint helps!

Amex may call you fro the following numbers:
623-492-6031; 602-537-9012; 800-592-1160; 800-441-0521;
888-819-2135; 800-824-9289; 800-678-0738; 888-315-0988;
877-352-6747; 877-366-6737; 888-258-3741; 800-555-4318;

Thanks!

I was home alone, when the phone rang at 5:31pm. Since I was alone, I let it ring until the Caller ID showed up. My boyfriends number is close to the 602-537-9012, so I picked it up on the 4th ring. I said hello, heard nothing, then repeated myself. Then, in what sounded like a German accent, someone said,"Hello. We are looking for ****** ******." *- my fathers name. I was leery now, so I told them there was no one here by that name, nor had there ever been. They asked if I was sure, because this was the number they had for the account. I asked them what company they were from, and they said American Express. I knew my dad did not have an american express, so i told them i was positive. I hung up after telling them to have a good day. I called my bf, asked him if he had ever heard of the number. He said he hadn't, and he decided to come over in case something happened. Right after he walked in the door, my phone rang again. This time he answered it. They asked this time for him! He had never put my home number down as his, so it was creepy. Right after he heard his name, he hung up. We got 5 more calls, the people always asking for one of our friends.... we let them go to the answer machine each time.

The same numbers are calling me. They called today at 9:34, 2:38 and 6:04. People I do not have an American Express card. As a matter of fact, I do not have any type of credit card. This is a scam. Don't believe what Rob and Pick'd Up wrote. They are probably the ones calling you.
