Yup, I got the same thing telling me I got a prize - also a Bell customer. It's a vacations company - I asked them to remove my number, and they played a recording that said the number was removed (not that I believe them).

Automated system called my cell phone. Recording is in Spanish.

Called Rogers to file a complaint, and for the most part, the company rep said pretty much what I expected.  They can't block calls from specific numbers, or to specific cellular numbers.

 This is PATENTLY UNTRUE.

 You'll all be "terribly surprised" to learn this--but the cellular carrier that YOU signed up with has complete access to the network hardware that their customers access, (I believe it has something to do with the fact that they OWN these networks?!) and can block anything on their networks THAT THEY CHOOSE TO.

 Logically, if they can block you from making ANY long distance calls, or if they can block an long distance calls from coming IN to your number, the statement I just heard from the Rogers rep is 100% false.  If they can block an entire CLASS of calls from coming in or going out, it is a foregone conclusion that they can also block a single number from calling INTO THEIR NETWORK.

 Long-n-short:  They make money when you lose money, so they have no intention--or financial reason--to block these boiler-room operations from calling your cell phones.  Who cares if you lose...that's the price you pay for signing up with crooked carriers.

Call placed to a Rogers cellular number.

Since all Cellular numbers are by default unlisted, how is it that these boilder-room operations seem to ONLY call cell phones, and not land-lines which have "Do Not Call Lists" in place?  Hmmmmmm...

Didn't recognize the number, nor do I know anyone in Manchester, NH, so obviously I didn't answer.

I find it very intersting that the vast majority of these calls are to Canadian cell phones, from outside of Canada.  Obviously, one would think that this is simply an annoyance, but this is only when you discount the fact that each answered call eats up cell time for the person who answers their phone.

Since there is absolutely nothing being done about this situation by cellular carriers--as they make as much money with incoming airtime as they do with outbound calls; a minute is a minute for them--I am inclined to believe that nothing WILL be done about it in the future either.

We all know that these calls are a scam of one sort or another, but perhaps the reason that the scams are not stopped is because the cellular companies don't want it stopped...and why should they?  THEY are MAKING money...it's only their customers who are losing in these situations.

Considering how long this has been going on, and how many different sites have sprung up specifically to report these occurrances, adding in the guaranteed profits to cellular carriers, I can absolutely guarantee you that there will NEVER be any attempt made to stop this sort of thing from happening in the future.

We will also very likely NOT have access to a cellular-based "Do Not Call List" system either, the logic being that "since your cell phone numbers aren't listed anywhere, you must have given them your number, because we sure didn't, so it's your own fault they're calling you."

Put another way, the cellular carriers don't think you're spending enough of your money (i.e: giving your money to them) so they'll allow this to continue in order to protect their profit margins.  Wasting your cell time is not a concern of theirs, as they profit from such things...and very well.

Think about it, folks...

Just got a call from this number and it was a recording all in Spanish!  Now that I've read all your comments, I know to block it.

A few months ago I switched my cell phone to a different number and registered it with Donotcall Registry. Ever since I registered the phone, I get many calls from several random number, the most recent one the 603 number saying something about warranties, prizes, etc. I wanted to file a complaint with Donotcall.gov but they said THEIR number had only been registered less than 31 days, so I can't file it! No wonder I get the calls from different numbers. Just don't answer if you don't recognize the number on your address book.

yeah, I got the recording in spanish too. what it said basically is that i had won a bunch of money and to claim my prize, i had to press one. Of course, i hung up.

Just got a call from this number on my cell phone.  Didn't answer... tried calling back... but says "number has been disconnected".  I am REALLY getting annoyed with the US numbers calling my cell!!  603 is in New Hampshire.  There's gotta be a way to block them all out!

RECEIVE A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER ON MY ROGERS CELL PHONE CALLER STATED BECAUSE I WAS A ROGERS CUSTOMER I HAD BEEN SELECTED TO RECEIVE A PRICE IF I PRESSED ONE.  I HUNG UP AND CALLED ROGERS MOBILE WHO CONFIRMED THIS IS NOT ROGERS MOBILE AND GOOD THINK I HAD NOT PRESSED ONE AS I MAY HAVE BEEN AUTHORIZING A CHARGE.

I got a call 6 minutes ago. Answered, but was left with silence. I hung up pretty quickly, not sure if I was ever going to hear anything

That's funny because I just got the same call from them stating I won a price from ROgers which is the same company as FIDO because Rogers Bought FIDO a while ago...lol.

They called me because it was a special only for Rogers customers.  This is so annoying that they can telemarket your cell phones!!!!  FIDO and Rogers are now the same company!  Like seriously.  I tell them to take me off the calling list and they say "that's not a problem mame but you missing out on a great deal...blah blah blah..."  I just hung up.  F*** I HATE THESE PEOPLE!

I received a call from this number also. we have been receiving these kind of calls for quite a while already.... Does someone know how to make them stop calling???? its getting very annoying and OLD. it was a lady speaking spanish saying that i won a prize and to press 1.

Had some fun with this number today! When they called, I was in the middle of a meeting at work. They called my on-call cellphone. I saw the number and decided to have some fun. I was told since I was such a great Bell customer that I have won a prize. Asked me to select 1 to claim it. I pressed 1 and got some random woman. She talked really fast and all I could get out of it was I won a trip to Cancun, Mexico. She asked if I was above the age of 23. I responed "I'm not wearing any pants." She seemed very puzzled and said "Did you say you are not wearing any pants?" I responded "Yes.". She said it was ok to be naked for the phone call and continued on with her spiel. She asked me another question and I responded with "It's so cold in here, my balls are freezing". She quickly said "Ok, goodbye" and hung up. Me and my co-workers were howling for about 5 minutes. Do this and you will get them to hang up on you. It's great!
