While I applaud your efforts, to stop abusive tele-marketing (or whatever it is they are doing),  I want to caution you about posting certain types of information.

Posting personal information, even when that information is publicly available elsewhere, can have legal consequences you haven't anticipated.  While the folks at 800notes are good about resisting efforts to obtain information on those who post here, when you post personal information you risking piercing the veil.  Even 800notes must hand over information when ordered to do so by the courts, and I believe many judges would give serious weight to such a request when the post appears to be providing information about family members, home addresses, etc., in hopes of enabling some sort of revenge.

Posts such as yours can carry serious criminal liability as well as civil liability.  Posting a business address and phone number, the name of the CEO, and similar things, for the purpose of providing contact info for complaints is normally fine.  Listing the names of family members, home addresses, or even the names of employees whose job would not normally involve customer contact, is treading on thin and dangerous ice.

Trust me boys and girls, I know what I am talking about on this one.  Popular misconceptions to the contrary, you are not invisible on the Internet, you are not anonymous, and you will not always get away with saying anything you would like to say.  Anyone who has read many of my posts here will know I am not on the side of the bad guys, but I also don't want people doing anything stupid.  No matter how satisfying it was to the poster, listing a spouse and parent was stupid.

Lori,

Keep in mind that area codes are pretty meaningless these days.

I personally have phone numbers available to me in a number of US states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Canada, and Taiwan.

I can call you from anywhere - my home, my office, a hotel room, riding on a train, or sitting at a bus stop, and I can have the call emanate from any of these numbers.  You will have no way to know where I am.  If I say I am in Taiwan, and I use a Taipei number to call you, there is no way for you to know that I'm actually in Kansas (or wherever).  If Dorothy calls you with a Kansas phone number, how will you know she isn't in Kansas any more, eh, Toto?

It isn't legal, but with a few keystrokes on my computer, I could also appear to be your Mom, next door neighbor, or anyone else I wish by changing my CID.  Before it was illegal, I used to amuse myself by calling friends with their phone number showing on the caller id as the one placing the call.  I got some really funny "hello" responses - especially from my more paranoid friends.

BTW - there are legitimate reasons for all this technology. In fact, you use it yourself without knowing it every time you are in a hospital or hotel room.  But like everything, it is subject to abuse.

"oops, wrong number" is an old trick.  It is someone looking for information.  They want to know one of the following:

(1) Is this number still in service (typically validating a list of numbers which have not proven fruitful). example: You never answer at any time of day when the caller ID says "Slimeface Collections".  You get a call from a less threatening number at various times of day to see if you answer so that Slimeface knows when you are home to be made miserable by their constant ringing of your phone.  They hope you will become desperate enough to finally answer their call.

(2) Is anyone currently home at this address (commonly process servers, skip tracers, bail bondsmen, burglars, repo men, collections guys, insurance investigators, fraud investigators, and law enforcement with a warrant or other papers to serve.)

(3) The name of the company if this is a business (look for a callback after they have done a little research, probably from a different number)

Trips for Tots is a total scam that is sponsored by answer solutions, which is another complete scam that offers free cruise tickets. I use to work for this company and everything you need to know will be in this post. The company owner is Jacob Wood http://www.facebook.com/jakobwood the location is in Winter Springs, Florida and the address is 1511 State road 434. The man is so paranoid he doesn't go out in public without his 300 lb body guard becuase he knows how criminal he is. They never make in state calls for the fear of someone shutting them down and they know possibly every loop hole in the book, which is how they're still open. He purchases the phone numbers from Vonage phone company and puts them in a program that automatically dials them out to hundreds of people per hour. The people would then receive an automated message saying if they take the survey they'll win a cruise and after you answer you get transfered to a representative who will then collect your contact info. That information is then sold, even if they say it isn't ! Trips for tots was exactly the same, the only difference is that they tricked people by saying that all the donations went to terminally ill children, when really they went to a P.O box and then into Jake's pocket ! It's a sick business that needs to be ended !

I just received a recorded phone call from (603) 214-3677 saying that I had won a free cruise & to please take a survey (which I did - out of curiosity more than anything) - I mean come on if it sounds to good to be true - then it's always been my experience that it is too good to be true!  But the Caller Id showed call from Service Message & the above number was listed.  I'm also registered to not be able to receive calls such as these.  So beware of this SCAM!

FIRST

it's a federal crime with a $16,000 fine to call you and lead off with a recording.

      Check www.budurl.com/robocall

SECOND

you'd have to be a total idiot to give your credit card information to someone who CALLS YOU and won't answer simple questions about who they are.

The website is here:

http://tripsfortots.org/ yeah, it's complete bs and I can't believe I stayed on the phone long enough to hear it all. They kept offering "100$ cruise ship money to spend on anything for a donation of 50$" and we all know that cruises aren't two days. ):

And there is a choice where it says "Press 1 to continue with our survey, or press 9 to opt out of this phone call and any other solicitation" I think they make it seem very fast so most people don't remember what actually happened so they keep their identity, but it's a scam so whatever. They aren't getting my money.

I believe there is a law that automated calls have to offer you an option, within a length of time (possibly the first minute of the call), to continue the call by pressing a number.  That's why they leave no message.  If you do not opt to continue the call, no real person gets on the line, because legally they have to end the call within that time frame.

I got an automated "Trips for Tots" call.  In a loud, clear voice, the recording says to "press 1 if you want your free cruise tickets"; then, a short pause; and then a mumbling, rapidly speaking voice, at a much lower volume, says "press 3 to remove your number."  I pressed "3" and a recorded message told me that since Trips for Tots is a non-profit charity, they are exempt from having to abide by the National Do-Not-Call Registry.  However, (supposedly) they have an in-house do-not-call list, and since I had pressed 3, I would be added to it.  Ha!  We shall see.

Seriously, folks, if you want to donate to a charity, why count on the possible "goodness" of an anonymous telemarketer?  Why take the risk that you are donating to a scam, which could also be gathering your credit card information?  There are plenty of legitimate charities that you can find in your community, in the phone book, or on the internet supporting any cause you want.  Please be responsible with your money and do a tiny bit of research to find deserving charities.  Check the Better Business Bureau on any company before you do business with them.  You may believe in the goodness of most people, but do not doubt the greediness of many people.  Many telemarketers are scammers taking advantage of those who believe in the goodness of most people.
