Just got a call from this man, who gave the same story as listed above.  He knew of some landmarks in my town, which he said were described to him by the "traveling couple".  He insisted that our church provide two nights lodging (over Labor Day weekend nonetheless!) as well as food and gas money.  He called from (603) 631-5533.  As I asked a few general questions, he became somewhat sarcastic.  I immediately searched the number online and found this site.  So sad that scammers will resort to this kind of deception.

It's sad that hamheads like this have to take advantage of good Christian charity with their scams.

We just helped Sheila and Bill.  Same story from Pastor Doug Chambers.  Wish I would have googled him first.  Thesr guys are pretty good scammers!!

We also got a call in Liverpool, NY this evening from "Pastor Doug Chambers" from NH asking about financial help for a couple who had been in Rochester and were in North Syracuse. The husband (?) had Huntington's Disease, was mentally handicapped, and had an infection that had started in his mouth and was going to his brain. The number he called from was (603) 631-5533. He said that a pastor in Rochester who had visited the wife (?) at Motel 6 there had brought $60 to help, but the ceiling in the motel room collapsed on his head due to a leaky shower upstairs. The "Pastor" wanted us to foot the bill for lodging in North Syracuse for the couple as well as meals tonight and tomorrow, but we weren't able to do so right away, which he wasn't happy about. After the conversation I googled him and his phone #. This thread was the only thing I could find about him.

We also got a call in Owego, NY, last night from "Pastor David Billings" about this strange couple who cannot go to any shelter or get any aid from Catholic Charities or the YWCA/YMCA.  The phone number he called me from was (603) 631-5533.  The Stones supposedly have (480) 204-7893 as their cell number.  The "Pastor" was sarcastic with me when I told him our Rector would have to handle his request.  The Rector tried to call the Stones, but there was no answer.  We hear stories like this a couple of times a year, we try to help those with legitimate needs, no matter what church they belong to, or not belong to.  I considered calling the Pastor back early this morning to see how his "parishioners" made out.  Maybe tomorrow...

I wanted to report a similar experience.  This morning I received a phone call from a man named David Billings who claimed he was a pastor of an independent Christian church in New Hampshire.  He was asking for assistance for a couple named Bill and Sheila Stone who were passing through New York on the way to New Hampshire.  When I asked for contact information for his church, he said that he couldn't provide it because the church meets in his house.  This sounded quite suspicious to me, so while I had him on the phone I googled "David Billings Independent Christian Church New Hampshire" and found this strand of reports about similar phone calls from him.  When I mentioned this, he immediately hung up.

I just received a call in our Johnson City Church in reference to a couple in Owego stating they needed medicine diapers,gas, etc. He was very rude to me when I asked his name. I transferred him to our Business Admin. and proceeded to give him the run around as well. He gave us a phone number to call the couple, but it did not work.

Our church here in Owego, NY just recieved a similar type call. "Pastor David Billings" was very rude and a real arrogant nasty to me on the phone. He called from 603-631-5533

Just received a call from this same "Pastor" David Billings from New Hampshire.  He is trying to get our church to pay for a hotel for some friends whose vehicle broke down here in Harrisonburg, Va.  The man has Huntingtons Disease When I tried to call him back to get the names of the people who would be staying at the Hotel that I was going to pay for, he did not answer.  I Googled his name and found this site.

Yes, I just received a phone call on 7-24-12 about 2:15pm from a man calling himself David Billngs from New Hampshire. He actually got rude and sarcastic with me when I asked him questions to get more information about the situation.

Just received a call from the same # saying he was David Billings from New Hampshire church and had some people who would be in Lexington, VA within the hour needing lodging, etc.  When one of our pastors asked Mr. Billings his church name and number he started saying he was a "home group" and then cut off.

Just got the same call, from the same guy asking for the same stuff.  Sounded fishy asking for lodging at 11 am since you could be in New Hampshire by the end of the day if you drive straight through from here.

Received 2 calls from 602-203-1111 turned out to be a fax number.

Just got a call from the same number.  Said his name was Pastor David Billings from an independent Christian church in New England and that he had two parishioners traveling through whose house burned down in AZ.  One had Huntington's disease and they needed a place to stay, gas, and adult diapers.  I took down his number and called around to the salvation army.   Called the pastor back and told him there were rooms available at the salvation army in Bellaire ohio.  I thought he got a little hostile after that.  Said they can't be separated.  When I asked why not he yelled how would you like it if he had a seizure!  I told him that I did what I could - take the number and see if you can work something out.  Sounds like a scam though.  I see in 2011 he used a 207 phone number.

Our church got a phone call from this number that said it was urgent that Bill & Sheila Stone needed help as they were trying to get home to NH from Arizona - because their house had burned.  First he wanted lodging and meals but when the pastor asked to have the couple's phone number so he could reach - he said their cell was limited on minutes.  When the pastor asked where exactly they were at in our town so he could go meet them, he was told that he was not sure of exact location.  Then the gentleman on the phone asked if the church could pay the insurance on their vehicle and that the couple was already past our town and headed toward Cincinnati OH to a church that was going to help.  The pastor asked for the name of the church but the gentleman would not give it out and never called back.
