Famtel is a company that specialize in telecommunications marketing. RBC, Royal Band of Canada, is one of the clients that we call on behalf of. RBC hires many companies under contract to promote the products of RBC's choosing. RBC provides these companies with first and last names, phone numbers, and addresses of card holders they wish to have called. No other information is shared with Famtel, but I cannot speak for the other companies.
The products that Famtel may call you about include but are not limited to Info Protector and Credit Alert. Both of these products are linked to on the RBC website, along with the means to get any and all information about these products. As for fear of fraudulence, these are legitimate offers being made, and at no point is any banking or confidential information requested.
The flow of the calls you may receive from Famtel follows this order:
Introduction (Famtel employee informs you who is calling)
Sorter (leads to the product explanation, asks if you have measures to protect yourself from identity theft (Info Protector)/ if you have seen a copy of your credit report recently from either one of the credit bureaus (Credit Alert))
Pitch (the product is now described, questions/concerns are welcome, will tell you that in order for you to begin your free trial you need to verify your first and last name)
Address verification (the welcome packages/ credit report and score are sent by physical mail, Info Protector can be sent to an address not on file if requested, but Credit Alert can only be sent to the address on file as it has confidential/ personal information included)
*Date of Birth (only for Credit Alert as you can not request a credit report for "Name", but need to make sure that it is indeed for the right person, thus the need for a DoB)
Enroll (here the product is recapped and you are asked to give your permission to start your service in the product you are being called for)
*Enroll 2 (only for Credit Alert, asked for you permission for the provider of Credit Alert, being Intersections Inc., to obtain a copy of your credit report for your review, which is an automated process so that your information remains private and confidential)
End (you are thanked for you time, welcomed to the service, and the call promptly ends)
Personally, I am genuinely surprised that none of your concerns have been previously addressed by either an employee of RBC or Famtel, and for that I do apologize. Hopefully this helps to clear up some the the confusion, and if you should have any further questions, please, do not hesitate to ask.

I just got off the line with the idiots at RBC. I can't believe those a-holes gets a low-life Famtel company to try to sell me crap that I never asked for. Famtel called me from 10 different numbers, just about every province. Thats what type of scum bags they are. 514-225-1398, 705-797-2494, 514-225-7625, 204-289-0964, 403-456-6015, 519-266-6839, 902-442-7660, 604-282-7534, 519-266-6802, 705-797-2495..Needless to say, I CANCELLED ALL MY ACCOUNTS AND YOU SHOULD TO. If these a-holes think bothering people this way is acceptable, just goes to show you RBC has no respect for their customers..
| LMAO 2013-11-12 00:57:17 Unknown |
I suspect that you guys had your credit reports checked lately and gave RBC the permission to have your contact infos given to 3rd party. The numbers they're using are :
204-289-0964 403-456-6015 514-225-1398 514-225-7625 519-266-6802 519-266-6839 604-282-7534 705-797-2494 705-797-2495 778-383-3383 902-442-7660
Call RBC and ask them to remove your contact infos from 3rd parties.

Fourth call I've rcv'd claiming to be representing RBC. Other numbers and names (Jason Spearing 519-266-6839, Hanna Davenport 403-456-6015) and one from Barrie, ON where I did not recieve a name (705-797-2495). Claimed to be representing RBC on behalf of Samtel, with a product to protect credit card information. Asked me if I would like to try a free trial to protect personal information. I said it was ironic he would be calling as I am on a do NOT call list and asked him how he received my information to begin with - a question which he never answered. I told him I will go into a local RBC branch to follow up.

@Chuck: National Do Not Call list/registry: look into it, go to the website and read the *details*, or buy the list yourself!
That organization *sells* a biiiiig list of names and numbers of confirmed real live people to to anyone (marketing businesses mostly) who want access to the list, for varying amounts of $$ depending on the form of access. And that's so that then they won't call you by accident right? Yeah, no. Read also, the actual rules/laws about who is then *not* allowed to call you, and *who is*. It's a misguided .. no, *misrepresented* program that *sells* your number to marketing companies who then call you.
Sorry Chuck.. :(

Caller was rude and abrupt saying is calling on behalf of RBC. He was having a slight pakistani/indian accent I suspect that some dishonest employee of RBC is selling clients info. to these scammers. Unable to locate an adress for this number so that I can thank them personally for the calls I get. Anybody has any ideea about the exact location were they call from?
| Sigh 2013-03-14 14:30:03 Telemarketer |
If you have RBC and they want to call you, they will call from a local number. There are several RBC locations in Canada, they wouldn't call long distance.
Btw, if you've signed up for a credit card (in my case, mbna mastercard) they give your info to telemarketers. You agreed to that in that long statement they give you (that most people don't read).Call them and ask them to remove your number from the telemarketing list.

I have received 8 calls from various numbers and all of them show up on this site as being from "RBC" (or should I say, their farmed telemarketers). They usually call week days, and its always been during the day (while I'm at work) and now tonight they decided to call at 8pm while I'M PUTTING THE BABY TO SLEEP. I've never answered ANY of these calls but this is ridiculous. They won't stop. I am calling RBC and telling them to remove all my numbers from their database. If it doesn't stop after that, well then I guess I won't be an RBC customer anymore now will I?

OK, I've had it with RBC and "Femtel Solutions". I've now blocked 6 numbers these b*stards are using and still they call using new numbers - nearly every single day. If the national do not call list cannot deal with vermin like these guys, then there is absolutely no point in their existence. Requesting my number to be removed from Femtel hasn't worked. Now I will be cancelling my RBC credit card. Hope RBC appreciates their telemarketer's persistence.

got the same call...as well as others all this week...no messages...more pissed off this morning since another one of these numbers called me at 6:52AM on saturday...seriously..this is rediculous!

They just called me, said they were calling on behalf of RBC. Tried to sell me a service that cancels my credit card if I lose the card. Service is $8 a month. Agent was persistent and would not accept NO for an answer.

Said from "Samtel"(?) on behalf of RBC. About Infoprotector service. http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-cards/infoprotector/benefits.html
No pressure to comply or initial request for data except for name (which called me by at start of call).
Just a telemarketer.
