604-304-9898 tried to call me yesterday (November 16) but I missed the call. I couldn't find it in reverse look-up and when I tried to call me it appeared to be disconnected.

Just got a call from this number - same story, an automated voice saying I'd won 10,000 air miles, to redeem them press 1. I hung up.

I just go a call from the number claiming as a preferred Telus customer I needed to press 1 for a special gift.

Got a call at my work # from the local Vancouver number. Asked me to press 1, I did, then, after a minute, got connected to a live person reading from a script. I think it's definitely a scam.

Just recieved a call from that same number on my cell I missed it and didnt call it back. Scammers need to stop calling peoples cells around the world to get them roped into their circle. I get tired of calls like this that dont leave a message or anything like that

Just got a call. Thought to decline the call since I had a suspicion that it was another one of those scam calls. Then checked here and reconfirmed.

Lucky me! I never answer to unknown callers... They call me too (Montreal area). I suppose they are from Zellers, the only company who has my phone number.

Just received a call in Vancouver. Didn't answer.
| Geoff 2011-06-06 20:52:16 Unknown |
I also gave nonsense credit card numbers from a Greyhound shipping receipt's code numbers; I asked if "www" was part of a phone number (999 on the dial); I pretended my area code was 867; used my parents' 5-digit phone number from the 1950s as my number now (with two digits added in front).
I should note that not ONCE during the entire 35 minutes did they mention the bonus points I was awarded or confirm my air miles account number. They did say I had to pay $349 per person for the hotel stay, and didn't say if I also had to pay my own air fare!
I would really like to know why the phone companies are permitting the use of number substitution with numbers that can't be called back. If the calls originate in the Yucatan, in Mexico, there shouldn't be any caller ID at all. I suspect they're using some kind of internet link to local exchanges in Canada that they dial out of, but in that case, the display number generated by the exchange should be provided by the phone company, and in that case should be a valid dial-back number.
I used to work for a phone company (25 years), and I know that when Caller ID was introduced, "Number Replacement" was also employed - if you had a DID number at your desk, it would be replaced with a general company number (the switchboard) on call recipients' displays.
There's something funny going on when these scammers get these cute numbers (repeating digits in the last four) that are "not in service".
