Telemarketer
These books are legit, I got a call today and was hesitant but you can pay the delivery guy cash or cheque (not just CC).  There are some great local deals in it (oil change at CT, haircuts from places throughout the shuswap, free paintball, so much neat stuff for families) that it's totally worth it!  One thing I would recommend to the Treasure Chest people is better online presence.  Seriously, I googled you and ended up HERE because of a lack of better search results.  That's crazy!  If you guys have a website then SEO needs improvement because your not showing up on the first page. And if you don't have a website then... well then there's nothing anyone can do to help you.  People don't trust telemarketers that much, you need proper online representation to back up your marketing!
tl;dr
Great deals but this company is (unfortunately) operating in a bygone era...

The toll free number for treasure chest in dec. 2013 is 1-888-645-5750
The company is Canadian National Marketing, the managers name is Heather and the number in Spokane Washington is 509-328-4242. So for the Okanagan the books were sent out before xmas and the mail is back logged because of holiday and weather. Be sure that you get the right numbers given to you before you order anything. Hope this helps anyone with questions about this info.

I'm definitely going to! I only found out about this today when I went to my bank to apply for a mortgage on a house I want to purchase and this measly charge is affecting my chance of buying a house. I'm so livid!

I need to know how to get hold of this company as apparently I owe them money. Would you happen to know how? Every time I call, it says the number is not in service.

This is a fraud campaign currently active in Canada using a series of VOIP numbers.  The objective is to obtain your credit card number and drain your account.

If you attempt to "opt out" your number will be confirmed as live and added to a suckers list for repeated future calls.

Not a scam at all. I've been getting these savings books for a few years and they are full of coupons for free everything! From oil changes to bowling to golf to haircuts and manicures. They also have a ton of 2 for 1 restaurant coupons. They are great and well worth the money!! Just 1 oil change and the book pays for itself! They do call you randomly through phishing, but if they hadn't, I would have never gotten the opportunity to save this much money. It's even cheaper if you go in with family. I'm not getting paid to say all of this, I just wanted to voice my opinion that these books ARE NOT a scam at all!! Support local!! Get Deals!!

Hi everyone,

I purchased this book last year and it really did pay for itself. I understand it's not for everyone, just saying I like the product.

There are many companies that do phish yes.  However, I have never been called by this company, I have SOUGHT out a distributor of these books every year for the last few years.  They are VALID.  Their coupons, as mentioned another another INFORMED poster, are not buy 1 get 1 free, they are simply "get one free" with the exception of the dining section. I have gotten free haircuts, free nails, free tire changovers, free oil changes, a free horse ride, etc. No vendor has ever denied my coupon, or refused to honour it for any reason other than it was expired.
Get your facts straight before you present them as said facts.
Just because 75% of solicitious calls ARE scams does not mean it is a steadfast rule. If you are uncomfortable giving info over the phone in cae of a scam, it may not be necessary.  I never do it.  I find a distributor in my area and then I can get it in person.
Thses are really good deals, and because of your own fear that they are a scam, you are leading others to miss out on some really dood deals.  If you're not a coupon user/dealfinder, then this is not for you.  If you are, then you will really get your money's worth.
And no, I don't work for the company.  This forum actually came up because I was doing a search trying to find a distributor as soon as I found out that they were out this year.
I will admit though, that they are not very good at the whole phone thing, which is likely why I like to find someone in person. However, if that made them a scam, then Telus would be a scam, Shaw would be a scam, the Bank of Montreal would be a scam.  Don't live in fear of everything presented to you!

Dale is a drunken jerk, if he had a bad night at pool, he would come in the next day and take it out on everyone. He had this guy working behind the desk in 2007 that was even worse, but I really liked who I worked with and as long as we made sales, Dale ignored us. When he isnt on the phones selling, his customer skill really suck!

Thank you so much! People need to realize we need to work too and its a job, money for bills. The sales people have nothing to do with who they call, or how often. Ask to speak to the supervisor if the associate is rude or you have been asked to be removed. The associates can enter a code that's SUPPOSED to remove the number but the supervisor can manually remove it from the counter. These people aren't getting their rocks off at irritating, especially if you aren't happy, they don't get sales, they either lose money or get fired. Don't kill the messenger, I guess.

They have nothing to do with lists or bought information. They have a list of people that bought the book the previous year (called taps) because many of them buy the books year after year. They get your number because every area has a three digit prefix and four suffex. So if your area started with 333-0000, the call program calls 333-0001, 0002, 0003...and so on. People are so paranoid with scams and identity theft and info sales that legit companies get a bad rap. Yeah the repeat calling is annoying but if you think about it, if you watch an hour of tv, how many times do you see the same commercial trying to get you to buy their product. The only difference is its direct sale (you have to move and think) instead of suggestive sale (see a food commercial and suddenly want a taco) Relax, call the businesses, check it out. Cant be that bad of a product if the same people have bought it for years, they have one down here in Washington that supports the boy scouts (they get 51% of the profits)

I worked for CNM a couple years back and the trip thing is crap. As for the book, I have bought the local version for years, called the Entertainment Book. I remember my parents buying them when I was a kid. They are great, I mean nothing is perfect. People complain about scams from getting something for free but you pay for this. Think about it you pay about $65. There is a completely free oil change-$25, completely free hair cuts (2) at $8- $16. My family of 4 likes to bowl, would have cost me around 50 with 3 games minus shoes, half off coupon-$25. With those 3 I made my money, and there is like fifty other offers. There is stuff in it you won't use, so be a good neighbor and share, I guarantee if you regularly look through it, you will make your money back and much more, I do with the Entertainment Book down here.

I rec'd a call from this number this afternoon, they wanted to sell me a book of vouchers for free services in Moose Jaw.  They said they were calling from Moose Jaw Treasure Chest and all proceeds made off of these books would go to the Easter Seals.  It took a long time for him to identify the money would go to the Easter Seals.  If this is a scam, I would think this should suffice as enough evidence to get charge them?

I am registered on the National Do Not Call registry with the CRTC. If you are also, answer the call & record the following information: phone number, name of telemarketing agency, and a description of the offer.  If you can also get the name of the agent. Go to the CRTC website and file a complaint. From what I read, EACH occurence of a call made to a number on the registery results in a hefty fine. I didn't answer today's call, but will next time just so I can lodge a complaint.

Remember the number and use it when you fill out online forms and "FREE Draws" because the numbers are collected and called from these lists. Use either 604-321-4514 or 866-428-2225.  The latter has an answering machine so lets plug it up.

I also go the "Treasure Chests" phone call.  However it was Langley Treasure Chests.  So I guess it is (Use City Name Here) Treasure Chests.  I asked who is this and she said her name was Sophia.  I told her that I was on the National Do Not Call list and it is illegal for her to call me.   She said they call every tenth listed number in the book.  Whatever.  I filed a complaint with the CRTC national call list.  This is the only way they will be stopped.  Telus is useless in many ways, including this.

I work for a Telco, and have discovered that it very often isn't possible to enter offending numbers - including this one - into your Call Block list. The reason for this is that the number could be simply a display number used by several other "companies" to do their "marketing"...they aren't actual numbers.

Though these hang-up calls basically constitute harassment, the police are powerless to do anything (due mainly to the fact that they have much more important things to worry about). The answer needs to come from the government (who is lobbied by big telemarketing firms), or by the telcos (who make big bucks off the spammers).

In other words, we're on our own. In my case, I can have the numbers blocked from my line by a programmer at work, but this obviously won't work for the majority. I do also own a "Telezapper", which DOES work--but only when you use the "3-tone" setting. This means every time you pick up your phone to receive or make a call, a three-tone "disconnected line" tone will play. This fools the spammers computers into thinking they've encountered a dead number, and they will drop you from their list. It's annoying, though, so we only use it for a couple of weeks when calls start coming in again.

Other tips:  don't give your number out for contests and draws...use your work number instead, if possible. Always use Block Call Display when calling toll-free numbers. Don't give your number to big biz, they WILL all share it sooner or later (Canadian Tire, Zellers, etc. Don't even get me going on Wal-Mart).

Lastly, I've found software (IdentaFone Pro) that will work with a dial-up modem on your computer (if you have one) to produce Call Display on your computer (or all your computers across a network). It will announce the caller by number and name, and--most important of all--will block any number or block of numbers you choose, with a choice of message that includes the disconnect signal! I haven't implemented it yet, but a trial worked flawlessly on my computer.

Still, it's sad to have to do this.
