I got a call from John 604-587-2771. He claimed to be with CRA. He's actually called several times, and today he called one of the workplaces I have received a small T4A slip from. We decided to call CRA before we called him back.

The CRA has no record of him. The agent I talked to said that they would NEVER call an employer, especially since I am only a contractor. She told me not to give him any personal information.

This is a SCAM. Please don't give him your SIN or any personal information. Always call CRA before you answer any personal questions.

I just spoke to the CRA and they told me that John Abeney calling from 604-587-2771 is legitimate and does indeed work for the CRA.

I refused to give anything or verify anything. So he gave me all his info which is stated above.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to check up on him or call him back so he called me again today, one week later at about the same time.
This time, he was quite rude and impatient with me when I said that I haven't verified who is yet. So he said, can we proceed with your case and getting your info then. I said, OF COURSE NOT! He became almost bully-like and scolded me for not doing it since he gave me a weeks time to do it. I told him I would check now and haven't been able to get through to the 1800 CRA number listed...so I checked these sites instead.
When we ended the call, he was extremely rude and hung up without saying good bye.
Uhm.... I really don't know what to think!

I got a call from this number but there was no massage left. I tried to call back but it is asking to find local number in blue pages of telus directory.

I called CRA after getting this call on their toll free number and the person I spoke with said they were not trying to get in touch with me, and said If they were they would do it by mail first. Not CRA.

It's the Surrey Tax Centre. Bilingual ability is not required for CRA jobs outside of Ontario and Quebec.

I received a call from this number today in the morning, but I was busy at work and didn't pick call. The caller did not leave any message. When I tried to call back, the machine said it is a revenue canada. Not sure if it is legit or not, but considering all the information above, I will know what to ask if they call back.

Had miss calls from this number. Message said it was from Revenue Canada and gave a number to call them back. I did not call the number back. Instead I contacted CRA directly. The agent said there's no note written on file. However, she was able to verify the person that left v message does work for CRA and the number was legitimate. Alternatively, you can also request agent to leave message on file asking whoever was trying to reach you to leave their question/concern on file.

Yes, the number (604) 951-5660 was indeed the CRA based in Vancouver, BC.  Received this phone call and he left me a message.  I called back.  It was regarding the Payroll Account number that I established approx. 2 years ago, but was inactive because I was not able to get a caregiver for my mom.  He asked if I was able to find a caregiver for my mom which I replied "No, I was not able to get".  So he asked if he could cancel the Payroll Account Number that was inactive for this purpose.  I said "yes".  That was it.  No personal information was asked at all.  THIS IS LEGIT.

I just received a call from this number very suspicious so I called the govt office and they told me it is not one of their registered numbers it is FRAUDSTERS

Got the call about a "discrepancy" in my elderly father's return today.  Clearly a scam, caller was unilingual English (with a thick Indian accent) when my father's CRA correspondence language is set to French, and was unable to comply when I asked to speak in that language.  Also was claiming a discrepancy in a slip that I know dad hasn't filed in years.

I have had a few calls from this number saying it was a Mr. Franzen from the Canada Revenue Agency and wanted to discuss my personal income tax return. I would not give out any info. He gave a number of a (secure land line ) to call him back on. I called both numbers and neither one was the CRS. The actual Revenue Canada will always have a Govt. recorded message center. The Govt. of Canada will always have your personal info! Do not give out any info to these people as they are mining for info to scam people out of money or idenity theft! call the RCMP fraud squad.

So this number called me last week at 10:00AM on a saturday. Saying I missed a GST return for my business, which should not be the case as I have received no letters and have recently confirmed with them that everything is in line. They gave a 1-855-875-8596 to call back on, I looked it up and this is nothing linking this to CRA. They did seem to know info about my business.

Anyways I called the 855 number.

Few things that were fishy to me:
1) They picked up first ring, CRA always seems to have some sort of automated system
2) They are doing calls on a saturday late morning
3) When I asked for their badge number they hesitated then said 6 digits, seems a bit short but im not sure there?
4) She did not sound very professional
5) Its a 855 number, all CRA numbers seem to be 800

Yes, its a legitimate number. I deal with a few folks at CRA for business purposes = just shows a generic number. Like a hotel.

This is a legitimate number and will be a call from the CRA.  They left me a message, all details were fine, recommend you listen to messages and call the back.  Issues with the CRA usually only become a problem when you ignore them!

I just got a call from this today with no message. A lot of the replies on here had me going, but they must be shills for the scam artist because the phone number I gave Revenue Canada sure as hell isn't my landline that I've had for less than a year.

Got a call from here, also. She said she was updating info to see if we were still operating as a business.  I told her she was full of crap because if she looked at my records she would see that I was. She said she didn't have access to any of my records. She read off my address and phone number and my email address....which was wrong...but I did not tell her. That is all she asked because she knew I wouldn't give her anything else.  I only agreed to the phone number and name because it is listed in the directory. Had a chuckle that the email was wrong....

Just ask them what it is about. The call I got from this number _seemed_ legit as CRA, and Brad wanted to clear up some issues. As ever, don't share any personal identifying info (and don't volunteer info, like birthdate and particularly SIN, unless they can confirm the middle digits for example). And for any call, if it is CRA or any other government agency, they will establish their credibility when speaking with you. It's okay to challenge them to prove they are who they say they are. They are used to it.

This is legit. At least mine was. Brad from CRA establishing an oddity he detected in my GST filings. It was all very friendly and he definitely was from CRA.

I got a call from this number. In her message says she is calling from Revenue Canada. Leaves me her "private" number to call back. It is a timeshare property in So California????? WTF???

This is legit call from CRA.  They want to update your information, probably relating to GST/HST number, whether your business is still active or not.  Although, admit I was leery about divulging information until I had confirmed this was actually CRA calling and again caution against giving out information on phone, surely they cannot expect one to give out info on a phone call, so be cautious.

they called me from this number, the guy (allan) wants to update my contact information. it makes me suspicious "if its revenue canada"; they already have my contact info why wasting their time....

I called CRA after speaking with someone from this phone number and the CRA agent confirmed that they were calling to update their files, make sure they have the correct contact information and see if my business was still operating.

It could be CRA.  The financial institution I work with giving us a memo couple days ago saying CRA calls taxpayers because the SIN#, last name, etc. provided by their financial institutions regarding TFSA contributions and withdrawals are not exactly matched with CRA records.  CRA will call two times.  If the taxpayers are unable to be reached, CRA will send a letter asking taxpayers to fix the discrepencies within one month.  Otherwise income earned within TFSA account will be taxable.
