They just called me regarding an online payday loan from 11/2013, saying i should've recieved emails and calls regarding some pay day loan I never paid back. now I owe $8k and the sheriff will come to my job to deliver me the paperwork on what I owe, plus they will arrest me. Unless, I pay $450 or $150 today. Then they hung up when i started asking more questions regarding who the company was, an actual date and when i kept telling them to mail me some info.

Pfishing is their latest tactic.
They will call you and say it's the local Police Dept. and tell you they have an Arrest Warrant.
Then, they offer you to pay them via a Green Dot Card or a Vanilla Reload Card to avoid being arrested.
The real Anker Law Firm is aware of this and the South Dakota Attorney General's Office as well.
It's recommended that victims or recipients of these calls/threats report it to ALL LEVELS of Law Enforcement. It will help to find and apprehend these people.
For the few short minutes that a phone call or an online complaint form takes can be very useful to Law Enforcement in locating these people.
Lastly, even though it's annoying, consider dragging out the phone call so law enforcement has more legal ammunition to work with in the prosecution process.
Although these people are running a scam, the more questions asked of them, they tend to stumble in the conversation. Just as important, the things that they're saying are self incriminating. So it's more that can be used in court . You'll notice at times in the conversation that they pause and hesitate when asked specific questions.
Please, be pro active and take the few short minutes to report this to Law Enforcement.

Thank You to all for sharing this information .
Note : They use the " Phishing " ( hope I spelled it correctly ). Meaning they will place a call to you using your local Police phone number.
This can be very convincing. It's always paramount to call the Police number back right away to verify that you were actually called.
Names of Note : Andy Parker and Jack Conway.
By sharing information on this scam and reporting it to Law Enforcement, these low lifes will eventually be apprehended.
Again, Thanks to all for sharing information.
The legitimate " Anker Law Firm " is aware of this scam. They're upstanding and helpful in this matter.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

? filed under: Press Release

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I just got a call from this number also.  I was informed that US Cash had filed charges against me for 1) Theft by deception;
2) Fraudulent checks;
3) Bank something or the other.
These charges were filed on 11/26/2013 which happens to be the same day I went on line to apply for loans and then changed my mind.  When I told him he must have the wrong person, he told me to be prepared to be arrested in three hours.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

It is mind boggling that these sad excuses for human beings cannot be found & prosecuted. We don't have enough hours in the day as it is-& then we have to deal with this nonsense. They have been calling me. After hearing about these types of scams on the news-it happens to me. I told them that I know who they are & laughed. The heavily accented guy pauses then says that I will be arrested within the next few hours. LOL!!! For what!?! I said "ok-see you then-& I will be passing your number on to the Feds. He hung up.

No, from all of the complaints posted here this number is associated with a fraudulent debt collector using illegal tactics to collect on loans that probably don't even exist.  They are persistent, intimidating, and try to extort money out of their targets.
However, please remember, even in the worst case scenario, debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter.  You can't be arrest for debts.

I go on asking questions that she would not answer & I told her I have the police monitoring mu calls then she says the get arrested and hung up. The first it was a Guy & I told him I was getting the police involved & he said the same thing... get arrested and hung up. After that I called right back & I guess they put a block on my number because now it goes to the busy signal when I call. My sister had this happen to her 4yrs ago

Another expensive lesson in personal finance .... No American is required to pay money to borrow money. It's absurd, counter-intuitive, and illegal for some goon on the phone to make any such advance fee demand. The entire point of forcing a wire transfer or prepaid swipe card is to suck away your money before you figure out you're not seeing a penny come back.

The MoneyGram and Western Union websites each describe many different scammers who should *not* get your money by wire. MoneyGram puts it flatly: "The most important tip we can give is *do not send money to someone you do not know*." (emphasis theirs)

No, the "federal law" sets 9PM in your time zone as the end of the default window for phone calls from a debt collector. The reported antics are of course all illegal, and you could have quit at the false "arrest warrant" threat to determine that these are thugs pushing a bogus claim. Calling at oh-dark-thirty is just frosting on the fraud cake.

I had applied for a cash loan and even was stupid enough to get a green dot money card for 300 to verify I would have funds to pay the loan back.  To make a long story short they said they were sending the money western union, then called to say there was a problem with western union, so I had to send more money to get it sent by money gram which I did, but never got the money.  I was threatened that they could not cancel the loan as western union or money gram had the money.  I said I don't want it, because I know for a fact that they can get a refund from both western union and money gram.  Yet they threaten legal action against me, then finally today I got a call from t605-983-6010

Consumer Alert!

According to reports received by BBB, the scammers accuse the victim of defaulting on a payday loan and claim they are being sued. The phony debt collector threatens that, if the victim doesn?t pay as much as $1,000 immediately via wire or by providing bank account or credit card numbers, he or she will be arrested. The scammers often have the victim?s Social Security, old bank account numbers or driver?s license numbers as well as home addresses, employer information and even the names of personal friends and professional references.

BBB is unable to locate the persons responsible for the phony debt collection calls.  The scammers claim to be debt collectors for US Cash Advance and CashNetUSA.  US Cash Advance is the name of an actual company with a retail store location in Florence, KY.  US Cash Advance and its employess are not affiliated with the persons conducting this phony debt collection scam.  US Cash Advance does not issue loans over $450, does not collect debts over the telephone and will not ask you to repay a debt via wire transfer.  Click here for the separate BBB report on US Cash Advance.  CashNetUSA is the name of an actual company headquartered in Fort Worth, TX.  Click here for the separate BBB report on CashNetUSA.  Neither CashNetUSA nor its employess are affiliated with the persons conducting this phony debt collection scam.

BBB offers the following advice to consumers if they receive a suspicious telephone call about an outstanding debt:
? Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
? Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
? File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws.

(Personally, I wouldn't even put the effort suggested by the BBB into dealing with these over-breeding cockroaches.)
