Rec'd a phone call from 1-609-274-1801 on Friday, March 14, while on another phone call. No message left, but I tried to call this number and it is a Merrill Lynch official number, building 8.

I received a call from 609-274-1801 on April 16, 2011 on my cell phone. It's Merrill Lynch. I'm unable to call the back at any number. I'm on the National Do-Not-Call list.

It's Merrill Lynch's wonderful fraud detection system calling. My card had a $0.68 test charge placed on it so they immediately blocked the card. Then there were $500 and $1500 attempts to buy airline tickets, they report. Had there not been that stupid test charge I might not have noticed an extra couple grand missing.

I got a message from them saying they were checking on possible fraudulent activity on my card, asked me to call back at (800) 732-2747. When I did, the lady on the phone had a funny accent and the first thing she asked was my card number. It just didn't sound like ML to me, so I called Merrill on their (800) MERRILL number and the original call turned out to be legitimate after all. You can't be too careful these days, though!
