They probably have a wrong number. Why don't you just answer and find out what is going on. You are making this way harder than it has to be.
Kevin 2011-11-17 01:37:45 Unknown
It is not a violation of a no call list if it is a non-profit. The national do-not-call list only applies to for-profit enterprises.
Kevin 2011-11-17 01:36:07 Unknown
Just answer your phone. Stop being afraid to have an interaction with a human being. It takes longer to post here than to just politely ask them to stop calling.

they did come to my door it was kinda late and she was asking for a 40$ minimum to contribute. seeing how i just moved to the area and came from the country, where people don't just come knocking on your door, i was weirded out. also wasn't sure if it was even legit. glad to hear it is. i didn't give any money though because like i said it seemed sketchy

I belong to many environmental organisations, including CleanWater Action; I believe they were the sponsors of the "beach clean-up" I went to 2 years ago;they are legitimate; however, If you don't want to be called, they will remove you from their list. One thing please: if you treat people badly, or accuse them of being scammers, the caller may be offended and be rude to you; it's human nature not to want to be abused- so please be civil.

Got call from this number and let go to answering machine. Left no mesasge. Caller ID gives number and "Oout of Area". I called the number back and hung up without saying anything. I remember someone coming by my house and speaking to me about this group. I generally do not answer cqlls unless I recognize the caller name or phone number.

I attended a Chris Christie town hall and put my name/address down on his sign up sheet for additional information. This is one of the organizations that will contact you if you attended and signed up at some point.

Got a call from this number this morning asking for John, which is my dad's name. I told them this was the wrong cell phone. They had his number too. But then I got another call this afternoon from a different number (612-877-3272) asking for John. I just told them it was the wrong number.

Hi to Everyone.
I am familiar with "Clean Water Action". Their Website is CLEANWATER.ORG. Guys, no mystery here at all. This is a 40 year old, 1.2 million member, non-profit, environmental lobbying organization. We all know not every environmental issue makes it to the Nightly News, but to those who now have fertilizers in their city's water table, or to those whose kids are getting sick because someone has been authorized to use a toxic chemical nearby - these calls are perhaps their only contact with someone who is actually "fighting city hall" or doing what can be done.
Secondly, the phone calls are made to let the members know what's been done, and what is planned. What do you think is better? Letting hundreds of people hire their own lawyers, file individual lawsuits, and try to change a government or corporation's policies, OR have each member contribute what they can, and let professionals bring the voice of 1.2 million voters/taxpayers/consumers to bear. You can be darn sure the other guys are even better funded and organized. This is often an individual's best way to be heard.
Clean Water Action has many chapters throughout the US, but contacts their members using centralized (cost-effective) calling centers. This one happens to be in Minneapolis. They use door to door canvassers to find people who want to improve the environment by joining with the other members into a unified voice. This common voice then contacts legislators, utility boards, politicians, park and school districts, to educate and motivate them to preserve or improve the environment. People, this is the same function as when AAA lobbies for safer highways, or MADD lobbies for stiffer fines, or the NRA lobbies against gun regulations. No difference. The crucial point is they only call Members; and members are those who gave their support to the face-to-face canvassers.
They are a member supported organization. They do respond to their members' requests about the calling. You can't have a conversation with an answering machine. What kind of member organization doesn't talk to its members?? So they don't let the dialer ring longer than a few rings and don't leave messages on answering machines. Trust me, this is way more respectful of our time than the alternatives.
So relax... learn the truth and realize you finally found an organization that is actually effective at leveraging the concerns of a few individuals into a healthier environment for an entire populace.

I asked them how they got my cell number and was told they only have phone numbers if we write it down on their clipboard when they were first going door to door. I totally forgot I had done that but remember now. They were really nice and I gave them more money. Next time I'll recognize this number!

I got a call from this number last night around 8 pm....rang a few times and left no message. I'm assuming from other posts that it will be one of many calls to my cell. Is there any way to block this number???
Jim in MN 2009-12-04 01:25:57 Non-profit Organization
I get this call everyday, even after telling them numerous times I no longer wish to donate to their charity. It is a non-profit raising money for clean water and containers. I would never give them another cent.
The 666 at the end of their number is ominous.
