I don't know how many times I have told these guys I don't have a cent to give them, that one of my loans is in forbearance, that I struggle just to make ends meet ... I enjoyed my time at the U of M, but it hasn't paid off financially and left me about $30K in debt. How many times do I have to say this to get them to stop calling? Also, why are they calling me at 9:30PM Eastern time? This is not cool, not considerate, and doesn't exactly make me think I am ever going to want to donate money to them even if I could at some point in the future.

I did go to the U so it is possible it was them, but the guy was still talking to whoever he was with and didn't realize I had answered and was saying "we should just start singing a song and then they would be so confused and it would be so funny!" and then I said hello again and he hung up. If it was them at least he was embarrassed and I didn't have to deal with it!

With language and grammar like that I'm guessing it took you seven years to graduate.

Trust me Citizen, we don't make our huge money off phone calls. The money we get from here goes to all sports department with a sprinkle of it to the alumni magazines we send out.

Have a GOLDEN day.

Been avoiding this weird silent caller for weeks.  Now that I know who it is, I'll make sure never to answer.

How do you expect the University to maintain it's excellent academic reputation if lousy whiners like you complain every time they call and ask for money.  I'll bet you are the same person who thinks government shouldn't pay for higher education.  The money has to come from somewhere.  This is the real world quality needs money.  "Grandiose" ...really?  Maintaining a competitive edge with other universities is not trying to be grandiose.  Let's start a different movement, one in which fools like yourself are not allowed to use the libraries computers anymore.  - Sincerely someone who doesn't even particularly like the U of M

For f**** sake this number has been stalking my cell phone daily for at least a week. It leaves no voice mail.

I'm glad to find out its those idiots from The University of Minnesota where I got my graduate degree.

I will never, ever, ever give any money to the cult of Gopher. The six-year graduation rate for incoming freshman (percentage who complete a degree at UMN within the next six years) is something like 30% and I can see why.

You can get them in trouble for these tactics of not leaving a message by using the FCC Consumer Complaints form (this is through the federal government).  Just google search "FCC complaint phone" (it should be one of the top hits, remember its FCC.gov).  Once you get to the FCC Consumer Complaints page, select "Telemarketing, Prerecorded Messages and Do-Not-Call", then select the category (for me it was "'Abandoned Calls' ('Silent Calls,' 'Dead Air Calls' from a telemarketer) and 'War Dialing' received on your residential or business telephone"), select the method in which you want to report (I use the online version), and fill it out/submit a complaint. I've done it before and they mail you a hard copy of their acknowledgment of receipt.

Didn't leave a message. I don't know how they got my work number.  I've had friends complain about not being able to get off the calling list.  I give money to my high school and undergraduate institution, but I didn't even attend anything other than a graduate school at the University of Minnesota (which has its own fund-raising/alumni department).  This is just tacky, unethical actions by a university slowly falling apart from a lack of state funding.  This only adds to their stupidity: they're alienating people in the state who they need to support their grandiose funding plans.

Let's start a movement!  I have no money to donate, but plenty of irritation with the U's policy of build, build, build ... and let the students hope for help with their tuition.  If the Alumni Assn experienced a week or two of 'D.O.S.'-type phone activity, maybe they'd experience a holiday 'epiphany' and throw their influence to addressing the plight of the students, rather than just the grandiose designs of administrators and developers.

I wish people would just leave a message.  That is what voicemail/answering machines are for.  One person even had the audacity to say we won't leave messages.  I said, well I guess you won't get ahold of my husband then.  I sometimes feel like calling these annoying callers back 2-3 times a day and hanging up.  That would just be mean, but boy would it make me feel good.

From the University of Minnesota's Alumni Association wanting me to sign up.  Called back and got an answering service, you can leave your name and number to be removed from their calling lists.
