Same deal as everyone else is reporting, but for NYRB

Got a call tonight saying he was from the Philadelphia Union.  Caller ID had it as Major League Soccer but was suspicious seeing the area code was 612 and the Union are in 610.  But he asked a lot of questions like where I worked, who I go to the games with, and asked for my email.  I blew him off when it sounded a little weird.

They are just calling trying to get you to purchase Galaxy season tickets for next year.  I let him know I live in Phoenix and we were only out in LA visiting and caught a game.  He then apologized for calling.  It was no big deal.

Called and left a message claiming to be from the Seattle Sounders.  Must be because I still have a 206 area code on my cell.

Anyway, I'm a 6 year Galaxy season ticket holder an ex-president of a fairly prominent Galaxy supporter group.  The MLS league offices are in NYC (there isn't even a team in MN).  I plan on contacting the league and letting them know this is going on.

I doubt Major League Soccer is calling anyone who did not provide them a contact phone number.  What I suspect is happening is that the scammers are spoofing the MLS number and try to get you to purchase "tickets" over the phone on your credit card.  They get your card number and Blam!  off to the races with charges on your card.

Got a call today claiming from DC United. When I called back, it was Major League Soccer. So this is spam?

I also got a call claiming to be the Whitecaps.

I didn't answer.

I also had a phone call from this number. They claimed to be calling from vancouver whitecaps as they left me a msg because i didnt answer.

Someone claiming to be from Major League Soccer asking if I were interested in Gold Cup tickets - hung up on me when I said I cant commit to any purchases right now.
